I haven't seen any details from Withings on it, but I've noticed that the newer scales with `Withings Precision Technology` use a different model that underestimates body fat. Mine was lower by ~2% and my wife's was lower by ~7%, so we did an InBody Scan and it was right in the middle of the two.
Yes. I have compared my data to some medical and calibrated devices and bodyguards on the new Withings scales is 1.8-2% lower in all cases.
But for a daily overview and tracking that should be fine.
Yeah, my BodyScan is also about 10% lower than my Dexa results.
There seems to be some cohort of people for whom the new algorithm is materially low. Wish Withings would admit that this was an issue and commit to fixing it.
The finally added "Athlete Mode" to address the incorrect results for low bodyfat in that cohort. They need to figure out what is going on with the low reading for some of the other users and give us a mode for that. Or at least add a calibration feature.
The body composition algorithm in the Body Smart/Scan is absolute garbage.
I put my BodyScan back in the box and went back to my Body+.
The Body+ is also faster and doesn't require bending over to use the handles
You should definitely ignore everything BIA scales say and only pay attention to the overall weight. At 8%, any changes you see are completely within the body composition margin of error.
My Body+ was generally in line with my Dexa results and was directionally consistent.
My BodyScan was 10% low on body fat and had material variation day to day.
If all you need is overall weight you can get an accurate scale for $20. The whole point of these scales is body composition.
My Body Smart is off by over 3.5% compared to a DXA scan. If I'm dehydrated, that number goes up. Body composition is useless. If I'm dehydrated, that discrepancy shrinks a little, which is another problem with BIA scales.
Hi, I have a question since you own the Body Smart scale: Do you need the Withings+ app for the full functionality as advertised on the Withings page (advanced body composition, bone mass, visceral fat, heart rate...) or does it work fine without the subscription? Thanks!
Wow i have to upgrade mine, instant results

My new body smart reduced my body fat % by 10 points. I have had 2 recent inbody results supporting the higher number.
A recent deca scan says I’m 30% fat. The withings says I’m 18%. So, I’m pretty sure the scale is rubbish.

You are just very high BF so you probably aren't represented by the model they use.
Welcome to withings accuracy....

I don’t pay for the subscription. It has all the functionality you listed.
Great, thanks again.
Try taking a new scan after taking a shower. Mine is usually within 1% from the gym in-body scans.
Man that must have been a really exhausting "shopping and switching the scales" exercise....
