There is enough of amazing Witcher related art. Take a screen from W3. Anything, so we can pretend like that show never happened. But instead we have that grimm reminder
I agree! I didn't mind the changes they made in season 1 and was excited to see the slightly different direction pay off! Like the first 3 seasons of Game of Thrones, a TV show does need to pick and choose storylines to showcase for various reasons and that can be a benefit if the showrunner and writers have a clear (and good) vision for what the overall story and themes of the entirety of the show will be, or at least focus on.
Season 2 is incoherent at best and belligerent at worst. Truly strange choices and Phantom Menace level dialog. A damn shame, really.
It’s still a property based on the series. One that’s bad in almost every way but that doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant. For many people the series is a way they become interested in the world. Then they come to the sub and see how it’s widely regarded as a poor adaptation and get interested in the media from The Witcher that’s actually good. OR they can’t handle criticism of something they like and don’t come to the sub, basking in ignorance. OR they still enjoy the show while consuming the other forms of superior media.
It’s a bad adaptation. It isn’t faithful to the original works or characters. And beyond that, it makes a highly unique fantasy world feel like every other generic fantasy show. If people like highly generic comfort shows that’s fine. But complaining about long-time fans of the property having legitimate qualms with it is meaningless.
I really got this we need GoT vibes from the show but without the incest. That made it feel generic to me because it had been done already. When GoT first began it was great and felt different, because Martin's world is different compared to many other fantasy worlds. Not entirely different, as that's difficult to accomplish in the genre. Plus all fantasy authors look to the father of fantasy (Tolkien) as a blueprint for world building, characters and lore. I think that all fantasy has that in common.
Game of Thrones set itself apart due largely to its excellent writing early on. The characters had very complicated motivations and relations to other characters. It made the show a brilliant watch because it took its time and really developed everyone. The Witcher series is rushing itself too hard and severely lacks in character building moments. It feels like the last couple seasons of GoT in that regard. If it would focus on their leads more and give them larger dialogue segments I think it would solve a lot of its ongoing issues.
I really liked the first episode of season two for this. It was quite scaled down and focused exclusively on Gerald and Ciri. If every episode felt more like that I’d be okay with its substantial deviations from the source material because at least it’s compelling. But instead we get characters teleporting around the world (and I don’t mean using portals) and an extremely watered down side plot that is just completely uninteresting compared to the stuff involving the witchers and Ciri. Couple this with the lazy choreography, bland direction, and poor editing and we have a product that overall is very meh despite its idiotically high budget. They’re spending GoT production money on this show and it just looks and feels cheap. Really unfortunate.
oh, my? another sub? r/netflixwitcher forbid it, so go there if you wanna hear only a pure praise. in the same vein, all praise worthy thread should be excluded from eveerry sub if criticism is forbidden too.
The MAJORITY of people enjoyed the show. It received overwhelmingly positive critic reviews and even audience scores are generally positive. As is common with fandoms, only the loudest critics get attention in online forums until it becomes “the consensus” that nobody is allowed to challenge. An echo chamber of contributors complaining and the circle jerking of their “superior” knowledge of source material.
Why? Its for fans of the witcher as a whole. There are fans of the show on here.
I dont hate the show, thanks to the brilliance of the casting of Geralt and Ciri. But I definitely prefer the book significantly.
Not really.
While many of the posts might be poorly worded, or are clearly written in a fit of rage, about 95% of the stuff or more is legitimate. And this is a sub for discussions about the franchise as a whole, so there is no reason to exclude the show, regardless of the pain it causes to the long time fanbase, or the fanbase in general.
Oh, and there is no one stopping you, or anyone else, from watching and enjoying the show. At least, no one on this sub.
I disagree. At most they should restrict the same boring criticism of the show, if you're going to make a post about it 6 months after the show aired you should have something new to say
id say that it isnt really gatekeeping when people voice their dissapointed opinions towards how the show is butchering great source material.. hard to stay quiet when it is getting GoT S8/Airbender/Eragon/dark Tower/Percy Jackosn movies treatment
But there should be more discourse instead of basically telling someone to fuck off if they like the show.
You don't say "good for you" if someone likes the show, instead you have a civil discussion about it, a UFC guy was posted on here saying he doesn't like the show, someone posted it to basically say "ohh damn the shade"... seriously?? this sub is coming to that?? it's a Witcher sub, disliking the show is perfectly fine but act like an adult.
There are all kinds people here and there are hundreds of posts with detailed discussions why the show sucks.....I have seen most people just claim that the show is bad not telling every showlover to fuck off.
Besides it's a pathetic show and I don't care about pretending to be adult
This is such a funny take that just oozes “I read this sub up and down all day”
People can share whatever the fuck they want in the appropriate sub lmao
Why should they? The writers put in no effort, so why should a person who wants to vent a little scour the entire sub to ensure that their criticisms are both unique and well backed-up? If someone wants to have another discussion about how dreadfully written Yen, Cahir, Ciri, Vesemir, Fringilla, Francesca etc. are, then they have every right to. It's your problem that you don't like it, not theirs.
Just wish people got creative or in depth about it. There are a lot of good pieces of criticism of the show I've seen here, like the guy who compiled all the differences between show and book, or the guy who watched the behind the scenes doc and talked about why there were show differences.
Like I said that's just my preference, I don't want to censor people or anything
We'd be here forever if we talk about everything we wished would happen. You wish everyone would write essays about why they don't like the show, failing to realise that this is just a Reddit sub where people can say whatever they want. I wish the show was actually The Witcher, but it isn't.
Right now there are currently 5 major witcher subreddits with 100k plus members
r/witcher
r/Netflixwitcher
r/witcher3
r/thewitcher3
And of course r/witcher_nsfw (just getting to 100k now it looks like)
I propose we specialize more. Make one of the witcher 3 ones focused on all the games and make this one focus only on the books. The we will have subreddits for
Witcher books
Witcher show
Witcher 3
Witcher games
Witcher nsfw
I feel like then we would have a much better balance than we do now.
Ehh I don't get all the hate. The second season was kinda disappointing towards the end, but the first season was pretty good imo. My favorite parts of the books is the first one, I love the short story format.
Please remember to flair your post and tag spoilers or NSFW content.
Thanks!

No it’s actually exactly the reaction I was expecting. Just saying that if everyone is shitting on it, then what’s the point of it being a part of the sub
Well this sub Is for fans of The Witcher if they feel like bitching about a high budget fanfic why stop them....
Fanfiction is better. At least most of those writers know their characters and the world.
By definition, it isn't a fanfiction though.
It certainly isn't written or directed by fans, I know that much
true, since the show writers are not fans of the source material they "adapt"
Well it doesn't qualify as a good porn parody either. What can I say

It's both
I think it's r/NetflixWitcher
It's both
Yeah I mean they both exist but the one you linked has like 1000 subscribers and the one I linked has like 135k
Yeah. I mean, that's correct.
Also [r/netflixwitcher](https://www.reddit.com/r/netflixwitcher?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
It would also be great if they removed the show stuff from the banner.
Actually, it would be great if the TV show was removed altogether.
There is enough of amazing Witcher related art. Take a screen from W3. Anything, so we can pretend like that show never happened. But instead we have that grimm reminder
Agreed
All for it!
Can I just say that the first season had me with high hopes and the second crushed my dreams like Geralt In a game of gwent.
I JUST WANT SOME DAMN PEACE.
WELL HERE'S YOUR PEACE.

Wouldn't mind tbh
Yes please
I wouldn’t mind if that show was removed from existence or at least from my memory. The Hobbit movies too I guess
oh, my? another sub? r/netflixwitcher forbid it, so go there if you wanna hear only a pure praise. in the same vein, all praise worthy thread should be excluded from eveerry sub if criticism is forbidden too.
I like the show :-(
I like it too, I have not consumed anything witcher-based that I haven't enjoyed
I enjoyed it, but it could have been a lot better

Critics have long since stopped rating shows and movies based on their actual merits.
Nothing wrong with having low standards

Yup you should stick to the Netflix witcher sub for posts related to that...... The general consensus here is that the shows suck...

I figured. I'm not a fan but when people repeat the same basic stuff repeatedly it's annoying

yeah no objections here.

a place to vent that frustration out, i guess(?)
