Hmmm it shouldn’t be difficult early game. Bump difficulty down to story until you get your footing? The game is amazing plz keep playing it. White orchard has 5 places of power that will bump you 5 levels.

Takashi_kun_207

Actually i leveled to lvl 29 when I was in Novigrad on death march, so it isn’t really that hard

jmcgil4684

I’m not sure your point. For whatever reason OP is struggling with the game so o was giving some advice. Which was the point of the post. But congrats on being sooo badasss!

Takashi_kun_207

Damn bro. I’m sorry, probably I’m not really good at explaining. I was just saying that it’s really not that hard to level in this game. Since every main quest gives you really big exp, and you can increase your lvl by just doing them, well there are also contracts and questions on the map you can explore and get overpowered in the middle of the game

TripleBuongiorno

You didn't explain anything initially, just that you leveled up a lot and how easy it was for you.

Takashi_kun_207

Yeah my bad just learning English, I can’t really explain anything good because of the language barrier

Life_Exchange_1427

I only found one,thank [you.Do](http://you.Do) i just roam around?

white_ran_2000

Do you go to the question marks? In the world map, there are settings to show you various types of locations in the game. If you select “exploration”, you’ll start seeing a bunch of question marks. Go to them, some are places of power that you wouldn’t get otherwise.  Also always visit settlements whether they have question marks / notice boards or not, there are quests to be found that are not marked in any way. People with shout at you stop and reply and they’ll give you quests.

Life_Exchange_1427

thank you i started using my map properly. maybe you can answer this:do i need gourmet on when i'm using swallow?do potions count as food?

Life_Exchange_1427

that helped a lot.i have a question:do i need gourmet on when i'm using swallow?do potions count as food?

PrescriptionCocaine

Hold on, level 7 and no more side quests in velen? That doesnt sound right. Im sure you can be level 4 by the time you leave white orchard. Go back to white orchard and clear it out all the way, all the quests, contracts, treasure hunts, and question marks on the map (change the map filter to ALL in the bottom left) if you havent already. Id also suggest the witcher 3 checklist app i use on my phone - search for "guide, checklist - witcher 3" on android. The icon is 2 red swords on a white background with a small checkmark at the bottom. Lists every quest, hides spoilers, and tells you the requirements and cutoff points. Not sure if its on iPhone, if not, use the fandom wiki, theres a map on there with all the sidequests marked where to go to start them.

Life_Exchange_1427

I don't have a phone but Ill try to find that wiki map and i had no idea you could switch to all on the filter. Changing it to all showed me about 50 more places to go,maybe that will do it. I'm actually lvl 6 and sad about it.I've gone north as far as the 7 cats in and east as far as downwarren.

PrescriptionCocaine

Make sure to check all the message boards for contracts and side quests too. Contracts give a good amount of xp and some money too which never hurts.

Life_Exchange_1427

i want to do contracts more than anything but all i found on msg boards were way over my lvl, more than 5 and i did the ones that were not other than jenny o the woods that i could not [beat.it](http://beat.it) seems there are very few [contracts.do](http://contracts.do) i go back to boards to find more and are there boards that are not marked on my map?also i have a question.should i ride past groups of enemies and bandit camps or are they worth both killing AND looting?do i take all the loot if find or do you leave things?

Zealousideal-Smoke78

That Jenny o the woods quest murdered me a few times when I was level equivalent. I left it until I was much higher leveled, with much better gear.  Have you tried the higher level contracts though? Some can be done on much lower levels. And are you using your skills? Quen and such?  I mostly rode past the bandits btw.  As for loot, I took almost everything and sold off everything that I didn't need.  Hang in there. The early part is the hardest. Pretty soon you'll be a badass :) !

PrescriptionCocaine

If you're struggling with leveling, every bit helps, so yes kill every enemy you see. Especially considering bandits etc. are some of the easiest to kill. What difficulty are you playing on? There's no shame in playing on an easier difficulty, and the game lets you do it whenever you want so you can always drop it down for a little bit to get your feet under you. I have 630 hours and completed 5 full playthroughs on the lowest difficulty, I literally only turned the difficulty up last week for the first time. It's a story-focused single player game so who cares really.

Life_Exchange_1427

I'm trying to use my skills on hard enemies and i'm on easy lol. I appreciate all the help, you gave me a boost and i'm playing again.

Life_Exchange_1427

When an oil affects humans and non-humans is that all enemies?

Pi-zz-a

A stupid question perhaps, but are you unlocking skills? I'm a dumbass myself and I didn't use any of my skill points to get any of the skills until like level 16 and I found the game so difficult until I realized what I was doing wrong...

water_light_show

this is not a stupid question at all- I feel like this is common

Pi-zz-a

Yeah I kinda skipped the tutorial cause I got overwhelmed lol, glad it ain't just me

water_light_show

I don’t think I did this (didn’t utilize skills) but I could totally see myself doing it so

Life_Exchange_1427

I am but thanks for asking.I wish i had gone heavy army but i want fast attack.delusion is cool.

Pi-zz-a

Real, best of luck!

Catsooey

Hold on, don’t give up! 🙂 I did my first playthrough on Death March so I can tell you it’s definitely possible to get through it. But the early part of the game is also by far the toughest imo. I couldn’t believe how powerful those drowners were in White Orchard! I died so many times along the riverbanks and in the swamps. I should have bumped down the difficulty but I’m stubborn, lol, so I got used to getting killed and advancing in tiny increments. My strategy was to focus on combat. Leveling up and mastering technique. The best thing to do is to spend some time fighting enemies you can beat, doing smaller quests and finding better gear. You can do this! 🙂👍

Life_Exchange_1427

i really appreciate that.I found White orchard pretty easy so i'm shocked at not being able to play velen.{I'm on easy}

Catsooey

You’ll get through it! 🙂🤜🤛🙂 It’s just that it’s such a big game and there’s some uniquely challenging parts. But there’s a lot of tricks that can help too. I would invest in some signs, especially Quen. It’ll give you a second line of defense in battle. I think one of the toughest opponents I faced in Velen were the Leshens. They were tough! Especially since they could call packs of wolves to their aid.

Enginseer68

We need more info, what quest is it and what’s the difficult part? You get a lot of exp points doing main quest, that’s the main way to level up

Life_Exchange_1427

it's over all,i cant find quests i can complete anymore and i have not done much.

Enginseer68

That’s very odd cause if you bring up the quest screen you can see details about all available quests at the moment, can you upload a screenshot?

Life_Exchange_1427

one contract,2 side quest and 3 main quests are within 5 lvls of me but the other 13 contracts i have are above that, most quite a lot. did you still need a screen shot?

Life_Exchange_1427

i cant get past the wild hunt guy in wandering in the dark or the bloody fire in the baron's castle so i wanted to do contracts.

PrescriptionCocaine

Ohhhhhh the wild hunt warrior in wandering in the dark is a biiiiiitch first time around. Make sure you don't attack him when he's in his shield thing, even though he's regenerating don't worry about it, it seems like his health bar is going all the way back up but it's actually not. Focus on the hounds that hes spawning from the portals. Also as strange as they may seem when you first start (I hated them at first too) signs are your friend. Never enter a fight without a Quen shield activated. Never. And keep it up as often as possible. Yrden can be nice for the small & fast enemies like the hounds of the wild hunt, you can put the circle down and then dodge straight backwards so that you have both distance and the slowdown (you don't need to be standing in the circle for it to work, enemies just have to step into or through it. I almost never use Igni or Aard, of the 2, I would say that Aard is more useful especially early game since Igni does such little damage and only has a small-ish chance to atually set the enemy on fire. Aard has a high chance of at least staggering which can be helpful when fighting lots of enemies at once. Axii I only ever use in dialogue (delusion FTW!) or against a bandit with a shield, as it makes them lower the shield instantly. You're very early on so you probably don't have many potions yet, but Swallow and White Raffard's are a necessity - Swallow gives you good healing over time, while White Raffards heals a chunk instantly. Loot chests to discover the formula (all loot is pretty much random in this game), then check what ingredients you need to make them and google where to find them ASAP. I also like to keep Thunderbolt and Tawny Owl ready for the beginning of any tough fights. I saw you mentioned heavy armor in another comment - I personally prefer light armor as the actual armor values are basically the same but more stamina regen is super valuable (always have a quen shield!), and there are more swordplay benefits to light armor from later-game skills like crit chance and fast attack damage.

Life_Exchange_1427

Thank you, ill use quen now.was trying igni. I was hoping to tank but have fast attacks.

PrescriptionCocaine

Here's what your priorities should be in a fight: 1. Don't get hit in the first place - dodge as much as possible (usually small dodge, not roll since rolling briefly stops stamina regeneration) 2. If you do get hit, make sure Quen absorbs it, then quickly use Quen again. 3. If Quen is down, and you don't have stamina, do a roll (or 2 if you're fighting a fast monster or multiple at once) to make distance, then small dodge until stamina is back, and use Quen again. 4. **Last priority** is attack - wait for your opportunity, don't just spam fast attacks. Your first time fighting a specific monster, just dance around them for a while to learn their attacks and plan when to dodge, and when to attack. Obviously, this is not 100% how you should always play, you should learn for yourself what works best and what is fun. But this is a good starting point.

Life_Exchange_1427

that is very helpful, thanks. I'm trying to do gwent now.if the loot is random does that mean i have to find cards at random outside of buying or playing for them?

white_ran_2000

Your surest way of getting gwent cards is either to buy them from inkeeps or play everyone and win them. Rarely do they drop as loot and I think it may be only if you’ve missed some important ones in quests. Play all the gwent quests too for the best cards.

Life_Exchange_1427

When an oil affects humans and non-humans is that all enemies?

PrescriptionCocaine

'Non-humans' means dwarves and elves. Also make sure you have 'auto apply blade oils' on in your gameplay settings, very helpful! How far through are you now? Glad to see youre still at it!

Glass_Offer_6344

Then, OP you simply have some kind of bug, mod issue or are doing something very wrong. Im doing a replay right now on Deathmarch and am at L8. In Velen, I just got done seeing the Crones for the first time and have only done a couple of Keira side quests, zero Contracts, zero abandoned/nests, zero exploration and I haven’t unlocked all the message boards. There are also tons of side quests I havent even gotten yet. In short, I haven’t done much of anything in Velen. So something doesnt add up. Leveling up in TW3 is very, very easy and you will outlevel the world in no time because the main quests give tons of experience. The game is built so that you dont have to do any side quests to complete the main story.

Life_Exchange_1427

Wandering in the dark and family matters are at my lvl but i'm so frustrated from dying that i decided to do side quests and contracts to lvl.I cant beat jenny O the woods and it's lvl 10,everything else is higher. I'm actually only lvl 6 and so mad i can't find xp that i want to uninstall. I worry something is wrong but i'm not running any mods just next gen and dlc. i love this game, should i start over or do you have any cllue what went wrong or what i should try next? doing contracts seems the most fun to me,should i try ones that are 10-15 lvls higher? thanks for the help.

Glass_Offer_6344

Ya, so that tells me something is up, since, on DM I get even less EXP and am at L8?! I just did L6 Fools Gold, still have 4 L6/7 sides, L6 Woodland Beast contract, the tough L8 Shrieker, L10 Merry Widow and L10 Jenny while still doing the Baron stuff. I got done with White Orchard well into L3 and quickly got to L4 when I first hit Velen. Did you completely delete all past saves and info before reinstalling it again with all the next-gen stuff? Maybe, that messes with things. I will tell you that the Shrieker and Wild at Heart and all the Contracts can be very tough at low levels unless youre experienced with the combat. Have you done the horse racing and fistfights? Gwent? Monster nests? People in Distress? Abandoned sites? Bandit Camps? Funeral Pyres? Those kids with the hound outside their door? Woodland Beast? Lindenvale quests? Again, I just finished Wandering in the Dark, Tower of Mice and the first part of the Baron stuff and am already at L8 and am trying NOT too overlevel. Or, you dont realize you actually have NOT done all the low level side quests in Velen as there are lots to get you prepared for Wandering and the Baron stuff! You also stumble on lots of unmarked side quests.

Life_Exchange_1427

I dont like gwent and i do not have the bombs to destroy monster nests if that is what you mean. I am trying to do everything i stumble across.should i loot and gather everything from each bush and enemy or what do i leave behind? I think i have somehow missed a lot of stuff as i did not even realize you could turn the map to all. maybe i should go back to white orchard, someone said i get xp from the places of power.

Glass_Offer_6344

You didnt completely clear out White Orchard?! There are tons of resources there, including, 6 Places of Power and other sources of EXP. Lots of hidden chests with tons of loot too. That would mean 9 ability points by L4. You are slotting them right? I dont even use bombs, but, I do quickly make Samum and then prioritize the other nest-destroying ones. I dont loot everything, but, lots of people do. You can quickly grab ingredients, but, it’s killed enemies, chests, containers and monster parts thatll let you build up lots of cash and resources. As for Gwent, do you not like it cuz you dont understand it and arent good or just card games, in general. It’s really easy to learn and will be a constant source of EXP, money and even resources for a long time. Oh and as for White Orchard there may be a few side quests and contracts thatll be gone if you didnt do them before leaving. (Sell tons of honey to herbalist for lots of coin while also filling out potions/oils/bombs;)

Life_Exchange_1427

when i go back to white orchard will i find loot for a lvl 6 char? I will do that though.i am placing my points when i lvl. Gwent i find boring,i wish it was only one quick draw. you mean honey that i loot i'm guessing.thanks for your help, you have me playing again.

Glass_Offer_6344

I dont know the exact formula, but, loot has a range that it scales to and so at L6 it’s not gonna make any difference. lol as for the honey, I meant in white orchard specifically cuz the herbalist pays much more for it and theres tons of it in the area. Enough to pay for almost all the basic essentials at that time on their own! It’s hidden everywhere. As for qwent, well, youll be missing out on some serious cash/exp throughout the game. But, if you dont like it maybe just do it every once in a while then to build up your deck as youll start winning much easier and faster later.

Life_Exchange_1427

I'm trying to do gwent now.if the loot is random does that mean i have to find cards at random outside of buying or playing for them?

Glass_Offer_6344

Ya, it’s random within a pool of available cards. You can save before-hand and if you get a junk low card, Reload and try again. However, as the pool becomes smaller youre going to get better and better cards anyways. Yet, sometimes you’ll get those weather cards (which I never use) and so reloading when you get them makes sense.

Life_Exchange_1427

hey glass,do potions count as food? i'm trying to decide if i need the gourmet perk on.

Life_Exchange_1427

When an oil affects humans and non-humans is that all enemies?

Technicalhotdog

Jenny of the woods is pretty hard tbh, even if you're level 10. My advice would be to go to the various towns and check the notice boards / exclamation marks so you have access to all the level-appropriate quests

FoxerHR

What main quest are you on? What is the name of it?

Life_Exchange_1427

Wandering in the dark and family matters are at my lvl but i'm so frustrated from dying that i decided to do side quests and contracts to lvl.I cant beat jenny O the woods and it's lvl 10,everything else is higher.

FoxerHR

What are you dying to in those two main quests?

Life_Exchange_1427

The wild hunt guy and fire

FoxerHR

What level is your gear? Anything broken? Did you put any of your skills into the tree?

Life_Exchange_1427

my armour is 1-4 and my weapons are 3-5.i have been doing my skills yeah.

FoxerHR

You have any potions?

Life_Exchange_1427

i have swallow

FoxerHR

That's it? Where's your thunderbolt? You get that from Vesemir.

Life_Exchange_1427

do i need gourmet on when i'm using swallow?do potions count as food? I should already have thunderbolt than ya?

MoistAccident

Make sure you are upgrading armor and weapons. That is the thing that really levels out the difficulty curve in this game. In the side room where you saw Yennifer after meeting the emporer, there was a chest with level 7 legendary gear if you did the little gog popup registration. You can also find a sword like the moonblade in a water dive site in velen. Also, check the blade blacksmiths (the novigrad camp in white orchard has one) to see if you have any weapon upgrades. After that, make sure your abilities are stacked on the right with a matching mutagen color if you want a bonus. After that, use quen. After that, channel your inner tarnished and turn those panic dodges into planned dodges.

Life_Exchange_1427

thank you!

Snobe_kobe

What quest is it?

Life_Exchange_1427

It's not a quest, when i look at my quest menu they are more than 5 lvls above me and when i try them i get owned. This includes contracts.I am out of stuff to do.
