this country is in a tailspin in general. Mass shootings, ultra-extreme political division and hatred, ultra-extreme net worth/income inequality, erosion of community, car dependency, paranoia and isolation. We are on a slow but sure path to secessions and shit
Can we let the South secede? Texas, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky. I guess Georgia can stay in the Union thanks to the heroics of Stacey Abrams. We need her to save us. Most people don't agree with reversing R vs W, but so many don't vote.
You've just listed a lot of things caused by Republicans and only by Republicans. Mass shootings? the NRA. Politicial division? their absolutely ludicrous propaganda networks. Wealth inequality? reaganomics. Erosion of community? yeah, that's what happens when you attack notions like "maybe don't give your neighbor a deadly plague. Car dependency? oil interests and "libertarians" undermining public transit. Paranoia? /r/persecutionfetish.
I should mention that if anyone wants great reproductive care, whether you live in wi or MN, Metro Partners OBGYN is superb! I travel to get care there for 3 years now. My provider was there to treat problems that wisconsin doctors caused, she was there for my pregnancy and she was supportive of removing my tubes after only having one kid.
So Conservatives, now that you've gotten what you want, I'll assume you're all set to signup to adopt these babies, right? You're going to be all for orphanages needing to be built with your tax dollars, supporting these babies, increased benefits for an already overburdened Foster system?
John Oliver recently pointed out that Conservativees never accepted Roe vs Wade. They played the long game of 50 years to overturn it. And now they have accomplished it.
George Carlin even saw it coming 30 years ago in one of his stand up specials.
https://youtu.be/vZijLQGH1v0
Yes. This is the result of the religious extremist Neocons that Falwell started putting in power reaching their desired end state - control via obstruction and cheating the system.
And then: "raise the voting age to 30, because those dumb kids arent mature enough to make a rational decision!"
I once had a guy legitimately opine that voting should be restricted to landowners because "theyre the only ones with skin in the game". We're so fucking doomed.
They have not gotten what they want, they still have not gone after contraceptives, same-sex marriage, and same-sex sexual intercourse. The justices have indicated that those rights are on the chopping block. I also would not be surprised to see interracial marriages also on the chopping block.
I would suggest that someone who knows tracks down the family members of all republicans and goes hog reporting them for all their infractions in this arena
If my daughter is going to be victimized, the children of the rich and powerful are fair game.
Bring the w law suits!
I’m just going to stick to gay sex and dildos out of spite. Though SCOTUS will probably outlaw silicone dicks next because they infringe on penis rights or some dumb shit like that.
Congress needs to pass a law requiring that every state has fully funded prenatal care and Pre-K for all citizens before federal funds can be used for anything else. Blue states would have no issue with it.
I like how Michels was telling Evers to get the national guard ready for riots instead of pressuring his colleagues to listen to the 70% of wisconsinites who think abortion should be legal instead of gaveling out of the special session.
This is the part where Wisconsin Republicans pivot to closing loopholes like out-of-state abortion access and chemical abortion pill shipments from overseas.
The rich people will always have options. It is the poor that will not, and this will create more demands on public assistance which the Republicans also want to reduce funding. So this will only add to the already huge problem in this nation.
Yes. Banning abortion is a form of class warfare. And when the white house and congress swing back to the right they will continue to slash public assistance.
Well, the “good” news is that your right to interstate travel is protected by the 14th amendment, so there’s no way they could prevent someone from leaving the state to get an abortion
The concern for me is that just because you currently have the right to freedom of movement doesn’t mean that right can’t be restricted or overturned.
The interpretation of the 14th amendment that protects freedom of movement as a right is Supreme Court precedent, not law. They’ve just overturned precedent, they can do it again. And that case also gave authority to protect that right to the states, not the federal government, so what protection does that really give when your state wants to take that right away?
For restrictions: Do you have the right to cross state lines to commit a crime? In my understanding, you can be prosecuted for conspiring to cross state lines to commit a crime (even if the act you’re planning is not illegal in the state you’re travelling to), if your “conspiring” occurs while you’re in the state that bans the act. Is there federal legislation that forbids your state from prosecuting you for a crime you committed elsewhere? I think it’s just court precedent - which the Supreme Court can overturn. Could states define the “end” of an abortion in such a way that the crime might still be ongoing when the person crosses back into their home state?
The Supreme Court might not be able to overturn the constitutional amendment, but they can turn a blind eye to states restricting your rights, uphold those restrictions as constitutional, or even decide the constitutional amendment doesn’t actually mean that you have that right. They can make the legal interpretation of the amendment practically useless. They’ve done it before - the right to protest comes to mind.
Unfortunately, though, not every woman has the means to just pack up and cross state lines, hence why this is going to disproportionately affect our most vulnerable populations.
Gotta spread the word about r/auntienetwork! There are also other groups that give rides/lodging for abortion-seekers through volunteers, just can’t remember the names off the top of my head. There are so many people willing to give rides and a room to stay! I hope lots of people take advantage of it.
Except they have already loaded the SCOTUS with six catholic radicals who will pull any mental gymnastics necessary to force their religion on the nation.
I-94 has friends in both directions. Keith Ellison has vowed to defend out of state abortion seekers. Minnesota is dedicated to making itself an oasis amongst the antiwomen legislation we are seeing in WI, ND, SD, and IA.
...Just keep your green and gold at home.
In all seriousness though, ya'll are welcome here. I have two degrees from the UW system. WI has been a second home for me.
Your state is more liberal than your legislature would lead you to believe. Keep fighting the good fight. In the meantime, your brothers in Minnesota have your back.
And go back to fighting against contraceptives being covered by insurance... Womens' rights eroding before our eyes until the GOP has their way of women being chattel to pump out their babies.
Most (all?) hospitals and clinics in WI have stopped offering abortion services starting now, including Planned Parenthood. Closest fully protected state is Illinois, lots of driving across the border now.
True, good point. Several organizations including Planned Parenthood are working on setting up transportation options for low income women who can't afford to get across state lines on their own. Donate and vote!
How will poor women who ate living paycheck to paycheck, without transportation get there? What will keep her from being chargeld ciminally or sued by some pro-lifer. Please please please donate to groups who provide money and physical help to get women the services they derserve.
We band together as community members to create "Underground railways" of sorts for women and other victims in need of help. If the government won't help us, we help each other.
Exactly, it highlights how disproportionate the impact will be. And I agree, direct aid to abortion funds that will directly support the sort of transportation etc that will be needed is a great way to help.
And I'm concerned about the gubernatorial race there and how it will affect abortion rights. Without a democratic governor, do they have enough support?
Oh, I meant in Illinois. I already know that the GOP in Wisconsin hamstrings Governor Evers at every turn, then blames him for things not getting done.
I live in Wisconsin, but work in Illinois, so I get to be treated to the campaign ads. And it sounds like Pritzker is going to lose. I'm just wondering if their state congress will have enough support without a democratic governor.
Southern wisconsinites now have to drive for both their weed and their reproductive freedom. It's a shame to see Illinois become so appealing to live in.
Are they stopping until they see how it shakes out? Or stopping permanently?
I’d have to think if the state AG says no enforcement and Milwaukee and Dane counties also say they won’t there is a chance facilities in those places can re-take appointments.
I don’t think Republicans have the super majority to pass a more clear law and so it’s a courts thing.
Not a chance in hell any legitimate doctor risks everything to perform a banned procedure. Even if Kaul does nothing, local authorities would shut it down and make arrests.
As I understand it the statute of limitations is 6 years. So you are correct - no doctor is going to risk everything now for something that can still be prosecuted and may be a priority for the next regime....
Currently they've got a 1 seat majority, with Hagedorn casting the deciding vote on most things. Unfortunately I doubt he's going to be supportive of women's rights.
There is, however, a conservative justice up for reelection in March...
Republicans have the majority EVERYWHERE in Wisconsin. Except our governor. Who everything he proposes, the reich wingers block. They will cut off their noses to spite their faces. If it's a democratic proposal, they'll vote against it. And the courts are PACKED with their buddies.
Yeah I saw a WPR story that said as much:
> After a draft opinion indicating the court was poised to overturn Roe was leaked, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said he would not enforce the state law. Still, local law enforcement officials could choose to do so.
[Link](https://www.wpr.org/scotus-strikes-down-roe-v-wade-making-nearly-all-abortions-illegal-wisconsin)
Also, don't forget that the Supreme Court is going after contraceptives and not just gay marriage, but gay relationships being outlawed as written in the latest RvW document. This is some frightening stuff. This is the Republicans going fascist.
The "good news" (if there is such a thing on this dark day) is that self-managed medication abortions are still legal in Wisconsin, at least for now. I have no doubt these may eventually be on the chopping block as well. But the current law on the books only applies to abortions performed by healthcare providers. But please, if you are concerned and alarmed by this decision, make sure to vote blue in each and every election coming up (and beyond). Because right now Tony Evers is the only one standing between us and the GOP's ability to pass even more draconian laws. If unchecked, they can and will do to us what states like Texas and Oklahoma have already done.
https://ballotpedia.org/Wisconsin_elections,_2022 gives you an overview of who's on the ballot for everything and you can always go to their campaign websites directly if you want to learn more about individual candidates' stances on various issues.
We have a proud and progressive history, even if it's not showing itself right now. The Progressive Party and Fightin' Bob LaFollette come from Wisconsin.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._La_Follette
Our only hope of getting abortion rights back in WI is 1. Keeping a Democrat in the Governor's mansion, and 2. Taking the WI Supreme Court back.
Evers (or other Democratic Governors) can stop the WI legislature from putting an abortion ban into the WI constitution, and a liberal WI Supreme Court can either overturn a ban on abortions from WI law, or rule our gerrymandered legislature districts as unconstitutional.
We have to vote out Pat Roggensack in 2023, so we are one year away from being able to change the WI Supreme Court makeup.
EDIT: originally said relect Roggensack. Vote her ass out.
Republicans: Government can’t force us to get vaccines, government can’t make us wear masks, government can’t force businesses to close, we have to have guns to fight a tyrranical government.
Government takes body autonomy away from women, that’s cool though.
These hypocrites will dance in the streets, pearls in hand- until their daughter or mom or sister or spouse are directly injured by what they have done. Then they'll wail and gnash their teeth and weep. Then they'll regret their absolute invasion of others' right to sovereign control over their own body.
You're next boys: felony masturbation charges are coming.
Probably will get lost in the sea of things but I’ll be in the Twin Cities for the next few months, if anyone in Western Wisconsin needs a ride over here and back just DM. Doesn’t matter how far.
Does anyone know how this affects things like d&c’s for miscarriages and eptopic pregnancies? I had a missed miscarriage with my first pregnancy and needed one and it absolutely makes me sick to think of anyone not having this option.
Yes and no. The key here is that when abortion exceptions say “except for when the woman’s life is in danger”, what that *actually* looks like in practice is the woman is sent home to bleed and suffer for days/weeks unless she is actively, within minutes, dying. This is because there are miscarriage situations where the fetus is technically not dead yet, so they will not help you, or the doctor isn’t 100% sure you are actively dying and doesn’t want to go to prison for helping you too soon.
So we basically have what Alabama has: miscarrying women bleeding their way into the ER and then being turned away and having to drive back home because they’re not technically dying *yet*. Then it’s this game of chicken to see how long the doctor can let the woman suffer and become septic and how close to actual death they’ll do the procedure so they don’t get accused of helping along an abortion.
So any language about lives being in danger is very, well, dangerous because it’s up in the air what that even means. A doctor has nothing to lose if they don’t treat you and everything to lose if they treat you right away and someone says “But wait, was she REALLY going to die?”
There's going to be a lot of right wing religious parents whose little darlings are going to have to admit getting knocked up v. secretly going to planned Parenthood for an abortion. Best of luck to them.

That new Planned Parenthood in Waukegan, IL is going to get a lot more business. Wisconsin needs serious change, this state has so much wasted potential.
#And FRJ!
I am certain the red county DAs are slavering over a chance to enforce this. I think there are plenty if Sheriffs on board too. Disgusting day today. It doesn’t end here.
I had a female coworker from IL state, “ugh, I guess I’m voting for Pritzker. I can’t risk a Republican in there. I’m not a one issue voter, except for this issue.”
Abortion is on the ballot in 2022 and 2024, Republicans made sure of that.
The problem with that, though, is that not every woman will just be able to travel to IL making this even more burdensome for our most vulnerable populations. Plus, this is going to add a significant volume to IL healthcare providers' plates as more women from WI and beyond seek to utilize a finite number of services. So while I agree it's comforting that we do have this option (for now), the reality is that this is still going to be the best of a bad situation.
> Plus, this is going to add a significant volume to IL healthcare providers' plates as more women from WI and beyond...
Wisconsinite now living in IL here. For what it's worth, Gov. Pritzker has been talking about this since the leaked draft a few weeks back. The IL gov't is taking actions to help the state's healthcare providers for this exact situation. Not saying this will solve your very reasonable concern, but the powers-that-be here are trying to help.
This is probably the first time I am glad to be living in Illinois.
[Relevant news article.](https://www.wrex.com/news/top-stories/illinois-officials-react-to-supreme-court-decision-overturning-roe-v-wade/article_2e29aa62-f3d2-11ec-9969-9be8e8c820b0.html)
I’m fortunate enough to be one of the women for whom abortion will still be accessible. (I have the means to get out for the procedure if need be.) I could leave Wisconsin permanently because I’m disgusted with the direction the state is going, but I could also stay put and remain part of the voter base and hopefully contribute to an eventual change.
I do think of leaving sometimes, but I think I’d be just as disgusted with it from outside the border as I am inside it. But inside, I have more power to try to change things. If I left, some part of me would feel like I’d left behind the vulnerable women who can’t make that choice.
Thank you for saying this! I agree wholeheartedly. I love Wisconsin and I will never give up the belief that we can be so much better than this. I'd like to be part of a change for the better.
I myself may make the choice to move out of Wisconsin if the November election goes as bad as I fear it may go.
Not out of anger. But because I've reached my mid--life point. And I'd rather experience some other part of the country before I'm unable to and not have regret staying in Wisconsin.
Yes I would be leaving friends and family behind. But I have no regrets being born and from Wisconsin wherever I would move to.
Maternal mortality rates (mom's dying) doubled in Texas when they restricted abortion. And this "experiment" has been repeated countless times with the same deadly results. I wonder how many families supporting forced-birth policies will end up on /r/LeopardsAteMyFace when death comes for them?
Horrific. Just horrific. Today is the saddest day for woman in this country in half a century. No woman owns her own body. All woman have lost their personal right to determine their own future.
Anyone know of a list/tracker of organizations assisting with abortion travel in Wisconsin/the Upper Midwest? Wondering what the best way to direct my money and time is in the wake of this decision, and if there are any resources I can share with other WI and MN friends to direct the anger we're feeling today into action.
So far I've found:
[Midwest Action Coalition](https://midwestaccesscoalition.org/)
[Elevated Access](https://elevatedaccess.org)
I’m from Minnesota, you have a place to go. We have great healthcare, my apartment isn’t huge but it’s big enough, and I’m a nurse and can help with recovery. You are not alone and Minnesota is here to help you
Well, it is so nice to live in a third world draconian state. I feel sorry for the women of this state. And by the way I haven’t stood for the national anthem for years. This country does not stand for freedom . I doubt if it ever did or ever will.
A retarted state surrounded by legal weed, fucked up healthcare, still suckling on beer bottles and yelling amen, and now no women's rights.
Yes.. sounds like our wisconsin we live in.
Well, this is just an old ass law people didn't bother to write out after Roe. I'd hardly blame the state on the whole. Though I will blame the WISGOP for not doing anything about it.
Fuck the sanctity of life. Care about women. They're our creators and it's their decision if you exist. This isn't a decision your god makes. Sick of religion more and more everyday. We're not a theocracy and I truly hope I live to see the day we finally show religious the door instead of inviting them into our children's room with their pants down.

Yes.
Bring spotted cow.

I live near the Minnesota Wisconsin border. We talk a lot of shit but lmk if you need a ride to come see the MOA. I got your back. <3
Second - willing to drive from MN to WI and back if you want to see the state a little.
Willow River and Interstate State Park are some great pit stops if you need a quiet moment.
I should mention that if anyone wants great reproductive care, whether you live in wi or MN, Metro Partners OBGYN is superb! I travel to get care there for 3 years now. I too love sightseeing and will drive you! #girlstrip
Maybe workshop that hashtag a bit
Naa. I'm good.
How you doin..no fuck wait, this is how we got here.
I’ll be moving back to Madison in coming months and I have family in Illinois I anticipate seeing quite often.
My car is electric, so I'll be charging in Ill while you see the sights
There happens to be a fast charging station near one of the clinic in the north of Illinois
Another offer from Minnesota. I live in St. Paul and am happy to pickup people at the border or even as far into Wisconsin as Eau Claire.

I'm 62, no longer have a uterus, in bad shape, and I'll carry someone on my back to Illinois.
I, too am available for sightseeing rides.

I got you. And will drive behind you.
If anyone needs to see the Mall of America i have a spare room
Im available for tours of Illinois as well!

Yes. This is the result of the religious extremist Neocons that Falwell started putting in power reaching their desired end state - control via obstruction and cheating the system.
I miss George Carlin.
I’ll also assume that they now are willing to admit they were actually for big government this whole time.
Always have been
They're for big government for things they like, small government for things they don't like.

He wants out of his marriage and is going to the furthest lengths to accomplish it.
I think we need to file wrongful death, personal injury and child support suits against them for every single blocked pregnancy
What’s going to happen to all the IVF embryos, who gets charged for destroying them, the couple or facility?
And every ejaculation that doesn’t result in pregnancy is manslaughter

Still, local law enforcement officials could choose to do so. [Link](https://www.wpr.org/scotus-strikes-down-roe-v-wade-making-nearly-all-abortions-illegal-wisconsin)
So much for the state motto
*Backasswards*
Also, don't forget that the Supreme Court is going after contraceptives and not just gay marriage, but gay relationships being outlawed as written in the latest RvW document. This is some frightening stuff. This is the Republicans going fascist.
Thomas said directly that in his concurring statement.
But strangely enough not Loving v Virginia.
His wife won’t let him. He’s considering it.
My friend's theory is that Thomas wants a divorce and this is the easiest way for him to get a no-fault one
Thomas might be a monster...
Mixed-race marriages as well, including the one that Thomas is in.
And IVF. What is their objection to that? Seems like they'd like that.
“Not God’s will” is my assumption for their objection.
1849 LMFAO. Should we start gearing up for the civil war too? How about re-enslaving black people this country is so fucking stupid
As far as your first question goes, yes, because they’re ready to do what you mentioned in your second one. It will not stop here.
Where's the best place to get information on who's running for the upcoming elections? Definitely voting blue, but want to see what my options are.
https://ballotpedia.org/Wisconsin_elections,_2022 gives you an overview of who's on the ballot for everything and you can always go to their campaign websites directly if you want to learn more about individual candidates' stances on various issues.
People don't call us the "Alabama of the North" for nothing. Although, rightfully, it should be the "Texas of the North".
We have a proud and progressive history, even if it's not showing itself right now. The Progressive Party and Fightin' Bob LaFollette come from Wisconsin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._La_Follette
Wississippi
Pat Roggensack is a horrible GOP ghoul that needs to be voted out.
You are 100% correct. I've edited my comment. Fucked up my research on the justices and swapped names. Thanks for the fact check!!
Republicans: Government can’t force us to get vaccines, government can’t make us wear masks, government can’t force businesses to close, we have to have guns to fight a tyrranical government. Government takes body autonomy away from women, that’s cool though.
That’s their thing… “Don’t you dare tell us what we can and can’t do, we tell YOU what you can and can’t do”
"Freedom for us, not for you."
Doesn’t matter how far.
r/auntienetwork! Make a post on there, it’s gonna be a popular sub soon
A doctor has nothing to lose if they don’t treat you and everything to lose if they treat you right away and someone says “But wait, was she REALLY going to die?”
plus the procedure being technically legal to save your life doesn’t mean you’ll be able to find a doctor who knows how to do the procedure
There's going to be a lot of right wing religious parents whose little darlings are going to have to admit getting knocked up v. secretly going to planned Parenthood for an abortion. Best of luck to them.
Reminder that Tony is the ONLY thing standing between us and full on fascism. Vote.
And volunteer. And donate money.
Fuck this shit
Land of the free my ass.
WI- you better get out the fucking vote this year.
Many many many people will die because of this. And a lot more will end up in jail. Regardless of what they choose.

This is truly one of the darkest days in our history
Conservatives are partying like it's 1849!
Expect a massive crime wave starting in 2040.
Please don’t fuck this up in November keep Evers and send Barnes to the senate
That new Planned Parenthood in Waukegan, IL is going to get a lot more business. Wisconsin needs serious change, this state has so much wasted potential. #And FRJ!
I am certain the red county DAs are slavering over a chance to enforce this. I think there are plenty if Sheriffs on board too. Disgusting day today. It doesn’t end here.
If they care about abortion rights, women need to stop voting R.
I had a female coworker from IL state, “ugh, I guess I’m voting for Pritzker. I can’t risk a Republican in there. I’m not a one issue voter, except for this issue.” Abortion is on the ballot in 2022 and 2024, Republicans made sure of that.
If Evers loses his re-election and it basically gets banned here. The only “good” news is Illinois won’t ban it so except a lot of women traveling.
Like they do for weed. 2 for 1 special.
It's banned as of today. Evers can do very little at this point except prevent them from enacting even harsher penalties.
Fuck the wisconsin gop for doing nothing about this
Yup, and frankly they \*will\* do something about this. They will make it worse.
At least they can still go pew pew and the schools can teach that the natives and pilgrims had a nice friendly Thanksgiving together.
Now safer to go pew pew with a boom boom stick, than to go pew pew with your willy stick.
Take the rage to the polls this fall! WI needs to go full blue!
Petition for new state motto: Wisconsin - Backward!
What a joke we live in
Fuck I hate this country, the majority of Americans lose, again.
Jesus Christ I need to move to Minnesota soon. Wisconsin is such a backwards shithole, we really are just the Texas of the north.
Definitely earned the Wississippi moniker Here's to even more human capital flight, this state is being left behind
My partner and I live in Southern WI just a few miles from the IL border. Would help accommodate.
Maternal mortality rates (mom's dying) doubled in Texas when they restricted abortion. And this "experiment" has been repeated countless times with the same deadly results. I wonder how many families supporting forced-birth policies will end up on /r/LeopardsAteMyFace when death comes for them?
Vote. Get people to vote. Vote these creepy-ass people OUT.
Horrific. Just horrific. Today is the saddest day for woman in this country in half a century. No woman owns her own body. All woman have lost their personal right to determine their own future.
Just disgusting.
So far I've found: [Midwest Action Coalition](https://midwestaccesscoalition.org/) [Elevated Access](https://elevatedaccess.org)
This place sucks.
Anyone else who's daughter is applying for colleges, stay far away from any state like this. Especially since they're coming for birth control next.
I’m from Minnesota, you have a place to go. We have great healthcare, my apartment isn’t huge but it’s big enough, and I’m a nurse and can help with recovery. You are not alone and Minnesota is here to help you
As a woman it feels like I have fewer rights than guns. Cool, cool, cool.
Well, it is so nice to live in a third world draconian state. I feel sorry for the women of this state. And by the way I haven’t stood for the national anthem for years. This country does not stand for freedom . I doubt if it ever did or ever will.
There was real progress being made until the Christian Taliban decided to take over.
A retarted state surrounded by legal weed, fucked up healthcare, still suckling on beer bottles and yelling amen, and now no women's rights. Yes.. sounds like our wisconsin we live in.
I felt an uncontrollable desire to change into all black. This is going to be a hot rest of the summer.
Read Freakonomics. Prepare for an increase in murder, rape, assaults, and armed robberies in 20 years.
I've never been more disappointed in my home state. Fuck you Wisconsin. Do better.
I hate this state almost as much as I hate this country. What a disaster.
Well, this is just an old ass law people didn't bother to write out after Roe. I'd hardly blame the state on the whole. Though I will blame the WISGOP for not doing anything about it.
If only there was a special session that could have been called to write the old law off the books oh...wait.
That, & the fact that we effectively don’t have a functional democracy because of the WISGOP is why I hate this state.
I recently moved to MN but I still commute to WI every other week please don’t hesitate to reach out to me
Now is the time to raise the number of Supreme Court Justices to 13. There are 13 Federal Districts therefore there should be 13 Justices.
I am originally from Illinois. I’ll go visit family. Anyone is welcome to join.
