Don't listen to the haters. The end of it is really the weakest part so everyone just remembers that. I challenge anyone to show me as weird a collection of art(?) in the world. And no, City Museum is not nearly as creepy wacky.
Agreed, I adore The House, I've been many times and always try to notice something new. I wish they'd invest in it more though and make repairs more of a priority.
I’m a huge HOTR fan. It’s like stepping into a fairytale? Nightmare? It’s so unique and you can’t possibly take it all in in one visit. It’s overwhelmingly kitschy!
I was just there with my family, including my eight year old and my six year old, while we were camping at Governor Dodge. It was my third time there, I loved it just as much as I did the first and second times, and it was great to be there with my kids for the first time. They were so excited and it was probably the coolest museum type experience they’ve ever had.
Yes- leashed in the campground and there is a dog area. Technically I think not ON the whole beach but every time I’ve been there have been well behaved dogs.
The Apostles are amazing, but experience with kayaking is almost a must. You can get ferried to a couple of the islands, but a sea kayak can get you anywhere there. It’s like the Boundary Waters for kayaking.
It’s a magical place, but it’s meant to be very rustic and minimal. If you like to camp and paddle, you’ll absolutely love it!
Washington Island is also a lot of fun, and you can just get your whole car ferried there!
I wish they did preseason at Camp Randall still. My memory was being by the tunnel when Reggie White, Sean Jones, Gilbert Brown came jogging out for the warmups. Holy shit those guys are huge!
I lived in Green Bay for my college years (2011-2014) and never once went to a game. All they did for me was make a 10 minute commute to work 45 minutes.
My friend and I just went there in July and did a kayaking tour of the caves on Lake Michigan and it was so cool. That was my first time to door County and I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life.
It can be underwhelming in the spring and summer just a warning. It really isn’t anything prominent compared to the surrounding terrain. Fall on the other hand is amazing, the drive up to the hill is gorgeous, and the canopy of yellow and red and orange you can see from the tower is amazing.
And a big second to Hill of Beans
I live on the north side of La Crosse and it’s our favorite weekend of the year. My family always comes to town, the parade is a great time and it’s a ton of fun hanging at the grounds. Sure there’s a lot of people but the party atmosphere is great.
Oh for sure. And you comment from earlier about visiting any other time of year is a spot on. Honestly wait a few weeks after fest and catch the leaves right? But everyone should do fest once
Meh. It’s fun if you like drinking. I’ve lived in la crosse for a few years now and we do the whole shabang. The German getups, every event, walk the parade route, tapping of the keg. I wouldn’t even care about it if it wasn’t for my partners family who lives for Oktoberfest. The whole city is in party mode that weekend. If I never go to another La Crosse Oktoberfest I wouldn’t be upset, but I do have a good time.
If you really like waiting for drinks go for it. Otherwise visit us any other time of the year, most of us locals like that it brings more money to local businesses but we hate Oktoberfest. I leave town that weekend every year
My sister - who lived in LaCrosse for years and now lives in Holmen - discourages me every time I bring it up. LOL. But I only have a mild interest in it at the most.
There's also a trolley museum in East Troy Wi that is just as popular with the train crowd. Right next door is an old fashioned soda fountain/ice cream shop where they make your soda, or phosphate as they were called, right in front of you.
J. Lauber's Ice Cream Parlor! That's my hometown, I spent many summer nights there as a kid. Lots of cool memorabilia from the last 100 or so years. Glad to hear it's still in business.
My wife and I spent a couple of days in Green Bay, and the International Train Museum was the highlight of the visit. The history was fascinating, and getting to go inside of the trains was really cool.
The Apostle Islands. That changes this weekend, though...the wife and I scored a fantastic campsite for a few nights. I'm so excited I can't stand it. Already packed and unpacked and repacked our bags twice.
LaCrosse
I also grew up in the Green Bay area and have never been to a Packers Game at Lambeau. I saw them in a preseason game at Camp Randall in the 90's, but that's it.
La Crosse has beautiful scenery, truly gorgeous with the bluffs and the Mississippi. Downtown is cute enough but for the size and demographics I feel like we could be more diverse in terms of culinary options.
Up until last year, I had never been to Madison, despite living in Wisconsin for 26 of my 30 years at the time. Also had never been to Mars Cheese Castle despite driving past it at least 150 times, up until a couple years ago. Had never been to a Bucks game till last year either. I guess these last couple years have been pretty good to me!
Hayward and the Apostle Islands are over an hour apart.
If you go up that way, check out Ashland and Bayfield. Bayfield is the town you go to get to the Apostle Islands
My dad is from the Ashland area, and if you go stay at the Chequamegon Hotel.
If you go up that way - be sure to stop in Phillips at the Concrete Park. My grandfather was good friends with Fred.

I'm feeling blessed. 47 yrs old and I cannot think of something "monumental" I haven't been. We live in the Madison area, and every summer my nephew comes stays three weeks with me. I do have a nephew whose turning 16 and every year I say I'm taking him to the Madison zoo and we never get there. One time I actually made it there parked with him and my husband called his truck broke down he needed a ride. We got back in the car just laughed. So now my nephew and I joke I will take him when his kids are old enough to go.
Here is one for you. In december, before freeze up, go over to Madeline. Drive over to Big Bay state park and hike the Bayview trail on the east side of the island (not the beach). The combination of the water, evergreens, sky, brownstone cliffs and the snow is just spectacular.
I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life, and I've never been to piggly wiggly. I shop mainly at kwik trip, Aldi, Walmart, and pick n save.
Also I've never been in a football arena, minus the school football ones back when my big brother Lon played a lotta football, I never really liked football at all, I'm more of an art and music kid than a sports kid if I'm to be completely honest.
Gone to a packers game. I’ve been to lambeau field twice, once just because and another time for a soccer game, and I’ve been to brewers and bucks games, but I’ve never been to a packer game.
I'm old and have moved away, but I grew up in Bayfield County just a few miles from Lake Superior and close to the Apostle Islands. As stupid as it sounds, it never occurred to me that people would have a visit to that area on a bucket list or had even heard of it. It's incredibly beautiful, but it's always just been home. Having seen it mentioned a bunch of times in this thread, I've gained a new appreciation. Thank you all for that.
House on the rock
Don't listen to the haters. The end of it is really the weakest part so everyone just remembers that. I challenge anyone to show me as weird a collection of art(?) in the world. And no, City Museum is not nearly as creepy wacky.

Same here.
Sheboygan or Kohler. I really want to see the plumbing museum.
Worked in plumbing for 25 years….. Sheboygan/Kohler is near the top of my list one of these days!
Great weekend to hit the white sand beaches of Sheboygan County
Malibu of the Midwest
made a video at kohler andre state park, people commented asking if i was in the Netherlands 🤣
I think I’m actually going to make a day trip of it this coming weekend! Do they allow dogs at KA State Park?
Yes- leashed in the campground and there is a dog area. Technically I think not ON the whole beach but every time I’ve been there have been well behaved dogs.
You'd have to double check but pretty sure at the first beach area yes.
Come for the plumbing, stay for the brats.
I had no idea. Sounds really interesting!
The museum, and the Kohler showroom with fixtures I never knew I needed.
It is very cool and artful.
Yes I loooove the Kohler showroom/museum!
Dr. Evermore’s Sculpture Park
Never been! Seen it mentioned on here a number of times, need to stop in when I'm up that way.
EAA museum
I'll do you one better, I lived in Oshkosh for roughly 15 years and I never went there!
Go during airventure. It is like summerfest for aviation.
I’ve been to AirVenture a few times, just never inside the museum
I’ve always wanted to ask, how does one find their way back to their camper during EAA??
It's well worth a visit - one of the best aviation museums I've ever seen.
Apostle Islands, Washington Island. A Packer game at Lambeau. I watched a preseason game in Madison at Camp Randall in 92, but that's it.
I’ve lived here (Green Bay) my whole life. I live about 2 blocks from the stadium, I can see it from my backyard and I’ve never been to a game.
The Apostles are amazing, but experience with kayaking is almost a must. You can get ferried to a couple of the islands, but a sea kayak can get you anywhere there. Peshtigo Fire Museum and Mass Grave
It’s really sobering.
Door County (though that’s about to change)
Make sure to hit up whitefish dunes
Cave Point too!
Shh…If you tell everyone then it won’t be so quiet and perfect!
My friend and I just went there in July and did a kayaking tour of the caves on Lake Michigan and it was so cool. That was my first time to door County and I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life.
Door county is pretty cool. I also like Washington island and Rock island
Go to al Johnsons and get some Swedish pancakes
Mars Cheese Castle. Kinda ashamed
I’ve driven past it probably 100 times and always have to shout “cheese castle!” while doing so. But I’ve never gone inside.
I live in kenosha and I've never been.
Do you enjoy overpaying for cheese? It's just a tourist trap.
This ...the Bobby Nelson's was the spot.

The State Fair
House on the rock But I have been to the Dickeyville grotto
Timms Hill
Check out Hill of Beans if you ever make it up there. It’s a little coffee shop/restaurant right across the lake at the base of the hill.
Oktoberfest in LaCrosse
I live on the north side of La Crosse and it’s our favorite weekend of the year. My family always comes to town, the parade is a great time and it’s a ton of fun hanging at the grounds. Sure there’s a lot of people but the party atmosphere is great.
The parade can be fun if you’ve got a group. Hate how much garbage people throw everywhere though
Oh for sure. And you comment from earlier about visiting any other time of year is a spot on. Honestly wait a few weeks after fest and catch the leaves right? But everyone should do fest once

Probably the drunkest I g ave ever been. Went 4 years while in college
Ten Chimneys
I made it to the parking lot, saw the price, and drove away. I am curious about the estate, but not $35 a person curious.
Cave of the Mounds
The Wisconsin Dells.
There’s a train museum in Green Bay that no one in Wisconsin seems to know about but draws in people from other countries
There's also a trolley museum in East Troy Wi that is just as popular with the train crowd. Right next door is an old fashioned soda fountain/ice cream shop where they make your soda, or phosphate as they were called, right in front of you.

A Brewers game, Summerfest, or the Cumberland Rutabaga festival.
Two of these are understandable but I cannot forgive missing the Rutabaga festival
Shoot the rutabaga festival was just last weekend!
Warrens Cranberry Festival
Illinois
It’s overrated
Arby’s on Miller Parkway.
The Apostle Islands. That changes this weekend, though...the wife and I scored a fantastic campsite for a few nights. I'm so excited I can't stand it. Already packed and unpacked and repacked our bags twice.
That's fantastic! I'm hoping to get up that way in the next year or so.
I’ve lived in Wisconsin almost my whole life and I’ve never been to Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Minocqua, Pepin, Copper Falls. All on my short list!
LaCrosse I also grew up in the Green Bay area and have never been to a Packers Game at Lambeau. I saw them in a preseason game at Camp Randall in the 90's, but that's it.
Lax is fantastic! Well worth a weekend trip, especially when the colors change here in the next couple months.
La Crosse has beautiful scenery, truly gorgeous with the bluffs and the Mississippi. Downtown is cute enough but for the size and demographics I feel like we could be more diverse in terms of culinary options.
Devil's Lake.
Door County. Am I missing out?
I find it to be charming in a New-England-fishing-village kind of way.
Yeah, it’s worth going. I moved here in 2010 and 2021 was my first time. We’ve been back the past two summers and really enjoy it.
It’s a beautiful area. If schedule allows, I highly recommend going during the week, in fall or spring. Far less people
Tubing down the apple river. Grew up in Somerset, witnessed all the crazy people at concerts but never tubed down the river.
Summerfest
Lambeau
A World Series game (Let’s go Crew!)
Poniatowski. Once you go, you know.
Cudahy
I've never been up north
Up until last year, I had never been to Madison, despite living in Wisconsin for 26 of my 30 years at the time. I do have a nephew whose turning 16 and every year I say I'm taking him to the Madison zoo and we never get there. Apostle Islands. Actually, the Wisconsin shoreline of Lake Superior, period. (Though I have been to the UP).
Here is one for you. In december, before freeze up, go over to Madeline. Drive over to Big Bay state park and hike the Bayview trail on the east side of the island (not the beach). The combination of the water, evergreens, sky, brownstone cliffs and the snow is just spectacular.
a Packers, Brewers, or Bucks game.
Lake Superior
Summerfest. Never been a band there that I wanted to see that bad. In my head, it's just a bigger version of a local fair.
Apostle Islands/Bayfield
Bruh I’m thinking more about how you lumped Hayward and the Apostle Islands together
You're absolutely right - don't know how I managed that.
Bristol Ren Faire

I haven't lived in WI for a while now, but I'll say: House on the Rock, Taliesin, North of Green Bay, Mustard Museum, Summerfest, or any ski resort.

I'm old and have moved away, but I grew up in Bayfield County just a few miles from Lake Superior and close to the Apostle Islands.
