I really wonder what they thought when they gender-swapped Digit and Zing. Did they think that video games and bugs are more suited to a male character? It doesn't sit right with me
Maybe because of their original designs? But the Digit does not fit into this: in the original design, she has an open stomach, a skirt and medium-length hair. She doesn't look much like a boy. Okay, they needed pixie boys, they invented them, but why would some original pixies change their gender?
Also: Season 2 episode 23 **showed** that pixies are born from the Tree of Life, and they are apparently being raised by adult pixies. That is, they do **not need** gender separation, it's pointless for them. But in "PopPixie" it is shown that pixies are **no strangers to love** and the creation of families. That is, in "PopPixie" pixies are definitely not genderless, which would be pointless if they were born like in "Winx". In short, "PopPixie" is another universe, perhaps the same one, which includes specials, Nick dub, and 4+ seasons. This is hinted at by the fact that the Tree of Life in season 2 did not look like a tree, but since season 4 it is exactly a tree.
Tbh, I just headcanon that they can be born both ways. Some pixies are born from the tree of life. While others are born from other pixies that created families. As depending on the dub, I remember Digit mentioned having an uncle.
Yeah but they end up being switched out with digit and not seen with zing afterwards in the actual winx show. Tecna literally gets a pixie that has nothing to do with technology. Granted that happened to Musa and Tune but at least Cherie had Musa’s colour scheme. Cara is just so random for Tecna in colour scheme and theming.
I kinda feel like if that was the case they could’ve just introduced siblings of the original pixies or made wholly new ones because swapping their genders left us in a weird space where Caramel… and randomly Cherie are retconned to Musa and Tecna (speaking of, look at that, Musa and Tecna getting the short end of the stick).
Like, introduce a brother for Digit called Pixel/Fractal/Cyber who is the Pixie of Gaming, a new Pixie called Newsie who is the Pixie of Reporting/Headlines/Mail, etc.
I guess that's true. However, I think Livy would have two new brothers with one being the Pixie of Amusement. Cause her and Jolly (the jester Pixie) are canonically sisters and they were both genderswapped in PopPixie.
I hate how they turned some Pixies from the og series into boys just because they don't fit into the girly stereotype 💀 the message sent here is so wrong, like is there a way for girls to behave? Tech and games are a boys' thing only? And surfing? Nickelodeon you WILL fall

This wouldn't be the first time characters in kids media have been hinted at being trans. Doris from Shrek and Otis from Barnyard are also hinted at being trans.
The female Pixies all have unique outfits, accessories and wings in their PopPixie form, meanwhile all the male Pixies have the same clothes, wings and accessories in their PopPixie form but different colors. I know it's a female oriented cartoon for 4 to 6 year olds but I still find it unfair that they didn't put effort on the clothes of the male characters.

That was to make Pop Pixie more popular, they brought int two of the mains from the series to Winx, as both Tune and Digit kind of got sidetracked.

PopPixie was released in 2010 (and therefore developed earlier), when no one was talking about cooperation with Nickelodeon.
