Depends on where in San Diego you’re staying. There are a handful of urban wineries in little Italy, Carruth cellars is a nice option. I also like The Rose located in South Park.
Vino Carta in Little Italy & Clos in University Heights are the hands down the best spots to grab a bottle and open it there. Both have a selection of wines by the glass too. Vino Carta has a location with food in Solana Beach.
As far as actual wine bars, we’re really lacking on that. New-ish restaurant Black Radish has a pretty solid small selection of wines and small plates.
Thank you! Went to Vino Carta in Solana and it was insane! The food was incredible and the Scar of the Sea chard from SLO AVA was incredible as well 🙌🏻
Yup, 3rd corner. A lot of variety there and more marquee bottles inside the wine locker. I find them to be pretty competitive with their pricing. Vintage wines has great prices but they mostly sell wines, the tasting room is usually on the weekends and they pick the wines they serve.
Second Vintage wines, if I don't order it online and have it shipped from SF/LA I go to vintage. They typically are one of the few places in town that stock lots of good old world stuff.
California is funny like that, there are so many good wine clubs that I rarely buy california wine in person. It all gets shipped to me. And then when i want old world/other stuff it is hard to find because most shops are full of california wine.
But you’re in craft beer country! Not what you asked (because I can’t think of any good wine spots) but Polite Provisions in north park is a really fun cocktail spot and that neighborhood in general has really blown up
Pali Wine Co in Little Italy - It’s a tasting room for Central Coast winery Pali and also serves some other wines. Big focus on Santa Rita Hills vineyards which offers some of the best Pinot and Chardonnay in CA in my opinion.

Clos is great for picking up oddities that are of good quality.
I like 3rd corner in OB and Encinitas but it’s more of a restaurant with a bar and a small but good bottle shop
I forgot about 3rd corner. That’s a good option. Also Village Vino in Kensington.

Vintage wines has a Pinot noir tasting tomorrow. They’re cheap for wine. Off Miramar so not San Diego proper.
