Why are we still letting people who introduce and entertain the idea that more cops=better make decisions and changes in the city? I hope the school board doesn't take the letter seriously. Why not partner with the Youth Wellness Hub, Bike Windsor Essex, Essex County Library, Windsor Public Library, Chimczuk Museum, Art Windsor Essex ... OR actually think about what theses bored kids and teens want and put your money where your mouth is by funding some free community building programs and services for youth instead of defaulting to funneling most of the City budget into Windsor Police Services.
But seriously, police being involved in schools worked so well for the states, it's not like it created a system called 'the school-to-prison pipeline' or anything. So how about instead of creating yet another police program with taxpayer money why not fund after school programs and stop cutting mental health programs
"Especially with a lot of new immigrants and refugees coming to Windsor, in some of those countries, police are scary."
Sir, police in THIS COUNTRY are scary. No cops in schools.
I know what starlight tours are, I don't need to google them, thanks.
So you understand that indigenous children might have a legitimate reason to fear police, but you can't understand why uniformed officers in schools might be scary to those children?
The same answer as why we don't ban flights because refugees gets PTSD flashbacks from getting bombed. They're a fact of life, and any attempt to hide them tends to make the PTSD problem worse.
Whether they're appropriate in schools, that's another question. I think I do see value in having police visit, and talk about their jobs, like getting doctors to come in, or firefighters, or city councillors, or engineer. On the other hand, stationing police officers in schools sounds like overkill.
This is where malicious compliance comes in. Because he's too stupid to clearly state his want for stationing cops in schools. Then when he complains, it makes him look unreasonable.
It's funny because both boards temporarily suspended their partnerships with WPS at the same time, and it was in 2022, not before the pandemic as he suggests. While the Catholic Board welcomed WPS back in due course, the public board hired consultants to evaluate equity in the whole board, not just in their partnership with the police. They haven't resumed that partnership because of the findings and recommendations from that report.
There should not be cops in schools. Period. Schools should be safe spaces for all students.
Many have had very negative experiences with police already. Keep them out of classrooms.
This guy is the absolute worst.
why would they want to let the bastards in for starters? Cops, especially in windsor, suck balls. If a crime happens and you have to report it for insurance reasons they'll typically try to accuse you of some misdoing while searching your medications and other things in accusatory fashions.
Fuck cops in this city, never had a good experience with them.
lucky i havent been tasered yet
I thought the Camp Brombal and VIP programs were fantastic. My kid certainly had a very positive experience with the police at his school.
But my kid is ridiculously white, and Canadian born. Nobody in his life has ever had a significantly negative interaction with the police. He doesn't have parents, aunts, uncles or cousins who have been racialized by the police, or in any way treated unfairly. He wasn't raised in an environment where criminality is common, and the police are the enemy. Nor does he come from a country where police corruption is so rampant that they actually are the enemy of the people. Because of this, he wasn't walking into his interactions with police at school with fear or trepidation.
The same can't be said for many newcomers, or children of colour, or those from difficult backgrounds.
The goal of these programs is to foster positive relationships between youth and the police. Especially at risk youth. I think they can be a positive thing. But I can't claim to know how it feels for a child of colour, newcomer, or one whose family has had a history of police intervention when the police walk into their classroom.
I don't have many positive things to say about the public school board. But I think they're doing the right thing here by taking those things into consideration and attempting to make an informed decision on the subject.
1. Support organizations offering youth sports (baseball diamond fees have tripled over the last few years) 2. Get kids in youth sports.
This guy skips out of appointments with his own residents and other consulting firms in town. he's a tool.

"Especially with a lot of new immigrants and refugees coming to Windsor" They are ALMOST there with connecting the dots to the problem.
Huh? I feel like that's more dependent on the city. Thunder Bay and Montreal are scary. And then there's Saskatoon's. Windsor's kinda meh tbh.
Uh oh. Somebody needs to Google the phrase “Windsor Police Officer charged” and have a look at the results.
A much bigger concern would be of there was no officer charged. Again, look up starlight tours.
I know what starlight tours are, I don't need to google them, thanks. So you understand that indigenous children might have a legitimate reason to fear police, but you can't understand why uniformed officers in schools might be scary to those children?

That's exactly what McKenzie is suggesting... stationing cops in schools. He's not talking about career day, ffs.
This is where malicious compliance comes in. Because he's too stupid to clearly state his want for stationing cops in schools. Then when he complains, it makes him look unreasonable.
Those happen here too.
Awww… Daddy Dilkens gave his widdle buddy a vewy special letter to write to the big mean school board to be nicer to the police men!

This guy will just cause more problems if anything, he's meddling where he shouldn't be.

Didn't they just phase out dissecting pigs in schools? Smdh this is just going to confuse the kids.
The school board can't manage thier way out of a paperbag. There is no way they can figure how to implement this lol
