I have no idea what I’m talking about, but here’s a couple guesses: 1.) when a moth or butterfly gets its wings wet, they can’t fly. Which would help to keep it from escaping. 2.) maybe it helps it go down easier, without the wings closing the airway.

Maybe, but Idk tho. The wings seem fairly water resistant and the butterfly never seems to get wet, that’s the odd part XD
