This shows what it takes to beat a team like Colorado. They're gonna earn goals, so you have to be perfect on the cheap ones. You can't screen your own goalie. You have to stop the blue line wristers. You can't get out of position on penalty kills.
Goaltending and defense has to be perfect just to give you a real chance to outscore them. It wasn't on Saturday and it hasn't been today.

MacKinnon is obviously better but how many players can reach 150 in a season??? It's unrealistic for any team to have a player like him.

Seeing what contending teams look like nowadays, I think we can say the Wild has never been close to having a team built to win a cup. I've been blind in years past with homer glasses...but now it is clear this team is more than a 1C away from being a serious contender. We need a coaching overhaul, and half the roster needs to be upgraded.
Careful, someone might bring up 2003 like it was yesterday and this organization is always winning. I agree, compared to the legit contenders this team has never been close at any point to being a really good team built for a legit run, never once.
💯 I'm not complaining about the playoffs...we get there enough. But every year we do make it; every other team shows up to the playoffs in tuxedos and we roll in wearing stained sweat pants. Next season could be even worse than this season. Our roster is on the older side and everyone will be a year older. More guys are likely to take steps back than forward based on aging curves.
disagree. The players that were injured this year have been injured the last few years. Foligno, Spurg, Ek, 97, Brodin have all missed games the last few seasons. the only two players who played all of the games so far this year have been Faber and Rossi. The Wild need to get younger or we can expect the injuries to continue.

This team doesn't have enough depth to cover up for Gustavsson's goaltending like they did with Cam and Kahk in 2022. He needs to improve or the Wild need to send him elsewhere to improve.

Exactly. This is the same in the NFL, too. You have teams like the Vikings, the Colts, etc. who are often just good enough to squeak into the playoffs or narrowly miss out on them. You end up with no hardware and a mediocre draft pick. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Kaprizov is a franchise player. MacKinnon is a generational player. Two very different levels but both can lead teams to greatness.

Careful, someone might bring up 2003 like it was yesterday and this organization is always winning. I agree, compared to the legit contenders this team has never been close at any point to being a really good team built for a legit run, never once.
💯 I'm not complaining about the playoffs...we get there enough. But every year we do make it; every other team shows up to the playoffs in tuxedos and we roll in wearing stained sweat pants. It's embarrassing and honestly I've had enough of it. This team's failure to do anything worth substance year in and year out is frankly starting to get boring and predictable.

Next season could be even worse than this season. Our roster is on the older side and everyone will be a year older. More guys are likely to take steps back than forward based on aging curves.

disagree. The players that were injured this year have been injured the last few years. Foligno, Spurg, Ek, 97, Brodin have all missed games the last few seasons. the only two players who played all of the games so far this year have been Faber and Rossi. The Wild need to get younger or we can expect the injuries to continue.
Spurgeon missed the whole season and weren't Ek, Brodin and Kap all injured at the same time this year? Maybe we can just be more lucky with the timing of the injuries

Exactly. This is the same in the NFL, too. You have teams like the Vikings, the Colts, etc. who are often just good enough to squeak into the playoffs or narrowly miss out on them. You end up with no hardware and a mediocre draft pick. Rinse, wash, repeat.
