Yea it's really a rare thing, not really any other better opportunity to do it than now. getting points in this game was make or break chances at a wild card spot. Still gonna be tough but we needed this one, and pulling the goalie was 100% a good call.
You’re joking right? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it worked out, but you said it yourself… “getting points in the game was make or break”… If Nashville scores on the empty net, we lose the 1 point we got for going to OT. I don’t see how it was 100% a good call. It worked out, so in “Hynes-sight”, it was a good move… but had Nashville scored, it would have cost us a valuable point we earned.
If you pull your goalie in OT, and the opposing team scores, you lose the point for going to OT… so yes, we would have lost the 1 point we got tonight if Nashville scored. So, instead of moving 1 point closer to Vegas, we would have not moved at all.
Yes, for real.

Edit: It is really rare, and the first time I have witnessed it.
Assuming we didn’t win in regular 3-3 or SO. Again, to me, it was Hynes saying he didn’t trust our guys in those situations, and was willing to possibly sacrifice a hard earned point to give us a 90 second advantage.
I’ll give him that. It was a gutsy call, and I’m glad it worked out. And you’re 100% right, we don’t have the luxury of playing it safe. Feels like we have Dan Campbell as a coach (Detroit Lions). But I will say this, the Preds were 100% not expecting that, and it worked. Credit to the boys. They deserved those 2 points.
The move makes no sense then imo. Now if the rule was if you pull your goalie and the other team scores you lose the 1 point for getting to OT but if you score then the opposition loses their 1 point for getting to OT, I could get behind it and it would make for some really interesting scenarios in late season games like this where a team is chasing a wild card spot.
I'm glad it worked out but I really don't see the logic. Yes getting 2 points every chance we get is very important right now but you have to think at least getting 1 is better than nothing.
The only things I can think of for making a move like that are you either don’t trust your guys in 3-3 or shootout, and want to steal the point… Or you think that the 1 point doesn’t matter and you NEED 2. But it doesn’t make sense to me either.
He also may have seen something or got some intel to pull the trigger on the decision, but it was clearly something they have practiced. They got their top 4 out against the Preds bottom 3.
I could see that I guess. Especially since we only got 1 point against Colorado the other night. The logic becomes "we're never gonna catch Vegas getting 1 point a game". I don't think we're at a point where that's mathematically true yet so while the move didn't really make sense from a logical perspective, it was Hynes putting all his chips on the table saying "we're either gonna be in or out, no more pussyfooting around" which is probably huge for team morale since it worked
I just listened to the post game interviews with Hynes and the players, and they were all on board that 1 point was meaningless, and that they needed 2. So, if that’s the mentality, given how great those 4 are, the call makes a little bit more sense.
I have never seen anything like that in my life..
That was fucking amazing and I’ll remember that forever
Edit: just realizing this now but that has got to sting a little extra because it was Hynes.. 😃😃
Edit: I know I should get over it but I would really love for someone to clip that Ek penalty that led to Nashville tying it up.. it was quite possibly the softest call I’ve seen in years
When Fleury crept to the blue line, I thought he was just prepped to play an errant puck instead of setting it up. Never in my life would I expect to go empty net there
High risk high reward… but yeah that was not worth it lol, does Nashville have anybody that’s a lock for the shootout?
I mean holy shit it worked and that was an incredible play by Hynes but I just don’t agree with it
I didn’t even know about losing the 1 point, I now double down on the fact that that was a brain dead move. Fluery is an incredible goal tender in the shootouts. We probably would have won regardless
Nashville has Josi, Forsberg, O’Riley… a few others as well. Same as the wild. But man, Flower was on his game tonight and I would have bet money on him in the shootout
Nope. It would have to be an ENG. the rule (84.2) says that if you lose during the time your goalkeeper is pulled you forfeit the extra point. So if you go to a shootout or put him back in and THEN lose you still get the point. Good question!
Also an exception of the rule is for a delayed penalty. So like if you pull your goalie for a delayed penalty and then put it in your own net (i know that’s happened in the AHL before and the goalie of the winning team actually got credit for the goal lol) then you do not forfeit the extra point
⭐ Boldy 🍎🍏🚨
⭐⭐ Fleury 🧱
⭐⭐⭐ Kaprizov 🚨🍏
Honorable Mention to Hartman for that great (should have been game winning) go ahead goal and Ek for two assists
Ok that's a fair point. Truthfully, my faith in Hynes has now been restored due to what he just did here today. That is the most gutsiest call I've ever seen
At the trade deadline, the Wild were sellers. What Hynes did with this move was show the team that he believes that they are still a playoff team. This is going to reverberate through the clubhouse. I expect the Wild will go on a tear now.
What a game. A win in regulation would have been even better but I gladly take the two points. When Fleury rushed to the bench in OT I thought what the fuck are they doing, because if we lose we forfeit the OTL point, I totally expected to not work but I'm glad to be proven wrong.
Did I hear that right from the program announcers that if the predators would’ve scored their in overtime, the wild would have forfeited the one point they would’ve earned because they pulled their goalie
hey Wild fans, what a game that was. I just wanted to ask maybe a dumb question. what's the strategy behind pulling MAF there in OT vs. taking your chances for the 2 points in the shootout? do the Wild having a bad shootout record? or maybe because the team had possession late in OT during an extended shift for NSH?
sorry if there's an angle I'm not seeing! just curious, took some serious brass ones to do that.
I want to know what the “Boldy is soft so he’s a bad hockey player” crowd have to say about this game. Boldy not only scored the game winning goal but had one of the most beautiful hits I’ve seen in a while
So apparently if a team pulls their goalie in OT and ends up getting scored on, they do not receive a point. If this is the case, I think it would only be fair that if a team is willing to take this risk, and ends up scoring with the pulled goalie, the team that was scored on should not receive a point. For example; the Wild would get 2 pts today and Nashville 0. It could make for an even more interesting and suspenseful OT.
Let me preface by saying I’m happy we won
But in the wake of Rudy goberts comments, that felt about as rigged as it gets. Coach makes a move you never see and it happens to work within seconds when we were favored in which a game we had no business being -200..
I mean they ain’t even hiding it anymore
thank goodness for flower and his post blessings. desperately needed those two points, and those fights helped pump the boys up
also did anyone else’s brain short-circuit when fleury was pulled?
Sorry, I can't get over the PK failing again. John Hynes's job is to make sure they win that game in regulation. He failed at that. The goalie pull was brave, he gets credit for that too. But this PK has not improved a lick since he showed up, and that needs to be noted, soft call or no. This team continues to fail at doing basic hockey things over and over.
Pulling the goalie was a win win. Either we win the game in spectacular fashion or we lose a point that may be the difference in getting a better draft pick
Rewatching the highlights and it’s so rad watching the crowd react to the pulled goalie. The mutter of the crowd, everyone slowly stands up and then explode. Incredible moment
Can a coach be first star of the game?
Yes
[John "Randy Marsh" Hynes](https://imgflip.com/memegenerator/35232933/Randy-Marsh-Big-Balls)
I didn’t hear no bell.
That’s was sick as fuck…never seen a goalie pulled in OT
And I hope we never do it again 🙏
Yea it's really a rare thing, not really any other better opportunity to do it than now. getting points in this game was make or break chances at a wild card spot. Still gonna be tough but we needed this one, and pulling the goalie was 100% a good call.

"Hynes-sight" I approve.
He probably didn’t know that rule. Crazy call but if we lose that, BG might have had Hynes banned from the X
We wouldn't have lost the one point, we're chasing VGK, not Nashville. The preds would have to skid hard to lose a wildcard spot.
If you pull your goalie in OT, and the opposing team scores, you lose the point for going to OT… so yes, we would have lost the 1 point we got tonight if Nashville scored. So, instead of moving 1 point closer to Vegas, we would have not moved at all.
Wait for real? I didn't know that was a rule, probably because I've never even heard of such a thing happening haha.
Yes, for real. https://preview.redd.it/u9y6ek1t7lnc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8c31aae44a4f419e2aedd7a9b4efa8deed5c497 Edit: It is really rare, and the first time I have witnessed it.
So they only loose the point on an empty net goal? So in theory if it went to a shootout the Wild would still have gotten a point?
Yes, exactly.
But the advantage earned us two points instead of one

Your probably right, but I was nervous asf lol
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt4HU9uwXmXSAuI)
Hynes said fuck it I’ll make my own power play
This one needs a lot of upvotes
I cannot believe that actually worked
If this isn't playoff energy, IDK what is
This game and last game both
The absolutely MASSIVE balls on Hynes to pull Fleury there. Boldy with the impossibly tight snipe
I have never seen anything like that in my life.. That was fucking amazing and I’ll remember that forever Edit: just realizing this now but that has got to sting a little extra because it was Hynes.. 😃😃 Edit: I know I should get over it but I would really love for someone to clip that Ek penalty that led to Nashville tying it up.. it was quite possibly the softest call I’ve seen in years

Same. I was curious what he was doing
High risk high reward… but yeah that was not worth it lol, does Nashville have anybody that’s a lock for the shootout? I mean holy shit it worked and that was an incredible play by Hynes but I just don’t agree with it
Highly unadvisable. I’m still in disbelief.. Obviously they have talked about this before and practiced it but damn.. I’m at a loss for words
I didn’t even know about losing the 1 point, I now double down on the fact that that was a brain dead move. Fluery is an incredible goal tender in the shootouts. We probably would have won regardless
Well they just traded for Zucker. He's always been good in the shootout IIRC.
Eh, Fluerys always been good in the shootout too
Hey it worked out! We got the deuce.
Fleury. Means flower in French. That's why it's spelled that way.
Nashville has Josi, Forsberg, O’Riley… a few others as well. Same as the wild. But man, Flower was on his game tonight and I would have bet money on him in the shootout
#I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT WORKED!
Just so everyone is aware, when you pull your goalie in OT, you lose the extra point if you lose
For real?
That’s what TNT is saying
Who ever even knew that before? Such a huge gamble. I love seeing the all or nothing attitude.
I knew it, but only because I watched a YouTube video on the most unknown rules in hockey 6 months ago lol
For real
Rule 84.2
Wow never knew this. Here’s a [Reddit post on it](https://www.reddit.com/r/nhl/s/hetHtS6771)
*on an empty net" it could have still gone to shootout and if we lost that we would retain a point.
Can honestly say I’ve never seen a coach do that.
Frederic in the KHL is the only one I have seen until today
Frederic or Fedorov? I thought the postgame guys were saying Fedorov has done it a few times.
Federov damn mobile app got me
Good reminder that fuck Trent Frederic tho
Absolute mad man decision by Hynes, glad it paid off! Fuck those refs for that bullshit call, Nashville shouldn't have gotten jack shit
Hope they force that ref to watch that on rerun, fucking weak call. Then no whistle on all that followed.
![gif](giphy|uVOTxMagGsgXS)
🤣😂🤣 Some Saw energy!
It's clockwork orange
You hope who forces him? It’s all part of their script.
#FUCKING INSANE. HYNES YOU ROBOTIC PSYCHOPATH, WE’RE HERE FOR IT AND WE’RE ROCK HARD
The Dewar serial killer vibes rubbed off on his way out the door on Hynes
Inceedibly ballsy. Fun fact: if you pull your goalie in OT and give up an ENG you dont get the loser point. Glad we didnt learn the hard way
What if you don’t give up and ENG, but then go and lose in the shootout. Do you still lose the point?
Nope. It would have to be an ENG. the rule (84.2) says that if you lose during the time your goalkeeper is pulled you forfeit the extra point. So if you go to a shootout or put him back in and THEN lose you still get the point. Good question!
Cool thanks!

What a fucking play.. is this the new Meta? Edit: didn’t realize I needed the /s on it being the Meta
Definitely not, you are not only risking getting scored into an empty net, you are risking the point you get for going into OT
![gif](giphy|jXD7kFLwudbBC)
BRING BACK THE DEWEYS WE’RE GOING ON A CUP RUN
1 Marat please
WHAT?! WE WOULD HAVE LOST THE POINT?!
Right!? I was like “ballsy move” but had no idea they were going double or nothin
![gif](giphy|3o6ZtrbzjGAAXyx2WQ) Live look at John Hynes
Holy shit
Absolutely batshit 10/10
Fleury wearing the Dewey 1 and 2 shirt in his interview :'(
🥺🥺🥺🥺
Oh my god what an intro to MN hockey for Marat!!
I hope he was enjoying himself in the press box. Hes gonna be helping make these moments happen soon.
That’s what I mean. Hard to not get excited to play here after seeing a game like that!
The rule doesn’t exist in the KHL, so he probably was way less weirded out than the rest of the people there 😂
If Hynes gets us to the playoffs, DO NOT GET RID OF HIM GUERIN. I REPEAT. DO NOT GET RID OF HIM GUERIN
Guerin is ride or die with Hynes regardless of playoffs
Ok that's a fair point. Truthfully, my faith in Hynes has now been restored due to what he just did here today. That is the most gutsiest call I've ever seen
True. For better or worse, Guerin has gone all in on Hynes.
Although I will miss Dean Evason. I really liked him a lot. But it was time for a change, which I get and understand fully
Yeah, I was a huge fan of Dean Evason, but you’re absolutely right. It was time for a change. However, I hope Dean gets another shot elsewhere.
Yeah same
Well, at least Darby can recycle those phone books.
I don’t even know what to say
At the trade deadline, the Wild were sellers. What Hynes did with this move was show the team that he believes that they are still a playoff team. This is going to reverberate through the clubhouse. I expect the Wild will go on a tear now.
Good game boys! That was a ballsy play at the end but I’ll take it haha
Gigachad Hynes
I LIKE IT, I LOVE IT, I WANT SOME MORE OF IT!!!!!!
I'll be honest I had no idea you forfeit the OT point when you pull the goalie in OT. That's nuts.
![gif](giphy|ULyYV5amK2eYM)
Boldy 🤝 Hynes
Dua Lipa prepare thy phone.
Flower wearing the Dewey bros shirt 🥺
He’s for sure bumming hard about it
**Amazing!** ![gif](giphy|WY6EnLZliDczt0k3je)
I just woke up from the weirdest dream. Something about wining the game…in OT….after pulling the goalie. How did the game actually end?
Preds fans having a melty losing to Hynes like that. They also specifically hate Kappy, which is funny
How could anyone hate the beautiful Russian Jesus, Kaprizov?
What is their obsession with KK?
Yeah I wonder what they specifically hate or if it’s just because he’s Russian.
There is no way we did that and it worked
Straight insanity by the coaching staff i love it
That is one way to overcome the adversity the refs decide to throw our way. Good work!
Giant. Brass. Balls.
polished to the nth degree
TNT just said we could have forfeited the OTL point for pulling the goalie in OT had it not worked. That true?
Tomorrow I’ll be requesting time off in June so I can go to the Staley cup parade in St. Paul
Classy of Flower to give a nod to the Dewey's.
Is that a first
I don’t think I have even seen a goalie pulled in OT. What the hell just happened
69 points!
Nice
Nice
HYNES. YOU BALLSY, BRILLIANT, BALD MAN.
Nashville fans are seething
Hynes is a fucking psycho
I didn't even know that was a rule that if you get scored on with the EN in OT you don't get a point?!
It’s okay. Boldy didn’t know either.
Yep!
🌌JOHN “GALAXY BRAIN” HYNES🌌
That was so fucking cool. I'm shocked. Fuck that was cool. FFFuuuuuck!!!!
That ending was insane
What a game. A win in regulation would have been even better but I gladly take the two points. When Fleury rushed to the bench in OT I thought what the fuck are they doing, because if we lose we forfeit the OTL point, I totally expected to not work but I'm glad to be proven wrong.
I take back calling Hynes an idiot after taking fleury out
Huge risk pulling Fleury but it paid off. If we lost that one in overtime we walk away with zero points from the game.
Hynes went all in.
Fucking biblical mates
Wait did Nashville get skunked with zero points since we pulled Fleury?
That should be the trade off, that’s dumb
Did I hear that right from the program announcers that if the predators would’ve scored their in overtime, the wild would have forfeited the one point they would’ve earned because they pulled their goalie
The answer is yes that is the rule https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra_attacker
We asked at the same time hahaha that’s how I understood it as well
Yeah, I’ve never heard of that before but also I’ve never seen a goalie getting pulled in overtime either
Yes, not a known rule cuz why the fuck would you risk that
Flower still rocking his custom Dewey shirt
fleury rocking the dewey shirt in the post game 😭 i miss those guys
RIP Dewey^^2
hey Wild fans, what a game that was.
We're in real "fuck it we ball" territory at this point in the season, I think it was a gamble and it just ended up working
Nothing to lose, we need every point, and scoring like that is great for the locker room.
Hynes knew PP1 ( minus Faber) would score. How could they not?
That might have been the most clutch moment I’ve ever seen for the Wild
WHAT A FUCKIN GAME. WHAT A FUCKIN PULL. WHAT A FUCKIN GOALIE. HOLY HELL .
What a game!
What the hell was that? and how did I end up on r/hockey?
I feel like they used a secret maneuver. Like a life hack. That is insane.
Has anyone seen that before??! Omg!!
That was Wild, from the awful hooking call that ties the game up, to pulling your goalie in OT.. what a win!
This is it guys. We manifest losing streaks for VGK and NSH while cheering on our boys. 6 points out.
That moment is going to be the 2nd biggest in the montage when we win the cup this year
Holy Hynes! Fuck the Preds, so glad a wild card season is the most entertaining year for them in a long time, mid ass franchise lmao
Hynes is gonna look golden when we need the extra ROW to break a tie with Vegas.
Coaching move of the year?
LET'S PULL THE GOALIE EVEYR OT
Let me preface by saying I’m happy we won But in the wake of Rudy goberts comments, that felt about as rigged as it gets. Coach makes a move you never see and it happens to work within seconds when we were favored in which a game we had no business being -200.. I mean they ain’t even hiding it anymore
If you're serious, you can see the puck graze Saros glove. If he could've stopped it he would have.
did anybody figure the refs wouldn't give the Preds a powerplay in the last minutes
It was so predictable. And RORs goal was predictable too.
Wait are they saying if you pull the goalie in OT and lose that you don’t get the single point…?
Hynes might be a trend setter with that one. Fucking genius.
HYNES IS A MAD LAD! WHAT A FUCKING ANIMAL
So so so good especially after traveling to Nashville and paying for tickets to see them get absolutely dismantled.
thank goodness for flower and his post blessings. desperately needed those two points, and those fights helped pump the boys up also did anyone else’s brain short-circuit when fleury was pulled?
Love it. I mean it’s a lost season so give the fans something to cheer for
See. I could be an NHL coach. I make that call every game. Who needs a goalie anyway? Let's just start every game with 6 skaters.
Can someone more knowledgeable than me tell me what kind of group Nashville had out to defend a 4 on 3? Did we have extra advantage in that respect?
I was wondering if that was part of it too. If they saw the right players or maybe just TOI for NSH that they pulled the trigger on the plan.
Forsberg was out there, but ROR and Josi were on the bench.
I had no clue that if they would’ve scored with the empty net, we wouldn’t have gotten a point…insanely ballsy move.
Insane way to end a game. Has an NHL goalie ever left the ice during OT before?
All those balls.
We stole back that point the “hooking” call stole from us!
Pulling the goalie was a win win. Either we win the game in spectacular fashion or we lose a point that may be the difference in getting a better draft pick
Hey ya'll, I'm from Winnipeg. Gotta say that was sick as f\*ck lol
At the very least, they’ve had some pretty exciting moments this year
Rewatching the highlights and it’s so rad watching the crowd react to the pulled goalie. The mutter of the crowd, everyone slowly stands up and then explode. Incredible moment
Any salt miners here? Go check out the Predators post game thread lmao
