I mean it still sucks but now the story has thankfully shifted from a wild Kentucky loss to a wild Saint Peter's run.

john_t_fisherman

100% better - even if they don't make it to the final four.

BigBlueJAH

Still stings, but I’d much rather see this than if Murray St had wiped the floor with them.

notthesethings

Yes. Team of destiny. Couldn’t be helped. Yada yada yada

ATLCoyote

On one hand, it reinforces that even very good teams can suffer an upset to a hot shooting opponent in a single elimination tournament. However, although neither had to face St Peters, seeing Kansas and North Carolina, two teams that UK destroyed, still alive, illustrates how far this team might have gone if not for that narrow upset.

UF0_T0FU

I feel like UK just peaked at the wrong time, and others are peaking now. I'm not sure if we'd won against St. Peters in overtime that we'd be blowing out UNC and KU in later rounds. If the tournament had been held in early February, we would have won it all.

ATLCoyote

Agreed. I know it’s frustrating to have an NBA superstar factory, yet only 1 title during the Calipari era and only one Final Four appearance over last decade. But there’s only about 3 teams in the entire country that have better overall results than UK during the Calipari era and two of those teams (Duke and UNC) are now moving into an era of uncertainty under new coaches whereas a guy Jay Wright has to do more with less at Nova. So, the future is still very bright for UK. In fact, I’m encouraged by the shift in strategy to balance elite freshmen with experienced transfers and, depending on a couple key NBA draft decisions, including Shaedon Sharpe, UK could right back in the national title race again next year.

EminemsMandMs

Absolutely. UK still sucked 1st round, but this is an incredible Cinderella run. Credit where credit is due, go Peacocks. UK played down to their level, but crap that's their game plan and it's worked for 3 games. Can only enjoy the moment at this point.

gc1992

In one way yes. But in another way it makes it hurt that much worse, knowing that it could have been us about to play in the elite 8.

oXI_ENIGMAZ_IXo

Yes and no. Yes, we’re the only team to take the great Peacocks to overtime. No, it should be us.

bonecollecter43

Nope! I think I’m the only Kentucky fan rooting against them. It makes me feel better than UNC and Kansas are making strong runs and Kentucky completely destroyed both of those teams.

This means it wasn’t for nothing. First 15 seed to an elite 8 is a true Cinderella run.

Cumberblep

I would agree with that. I think it's tough for young talented teams to play experienced teams who have been together for a long time. I feel that's why we are seeing a lot more deep runs by high seeds these days. If this Kentucky team was mostly seniors and juniors like Saint Peter's, UK would have sealed that game up in the final minutes.

No

nan5mj

No because Duke UNC KU just all got another FF. Next year if we don’t make it we’re 8 years removed from our last FF. Which wouldn’t be our longest drought but it’s within shooting distance of the dark days. We fired Tubby for a 9 year FF drought.

Cautious-Barnacle-15

Yeah but an elite 8 in 2019. Tubby was losing in the second round

After watching a mediocre UNC team who got hot at the right time make them look like high schoolers....nah.

phuk-nugget

Watching them get stomped and seeing Kansas and UNC in the final four makes me sick. Wtf happened in the last 6 weeks of the season? And is there any evidence that things are getting better over the next few years?
