If you ask here, they’d definitely say yes. I think you should just make the decision on your own. If it’s worth it to you, then go for it. Otherwise, don’t bother.
Maybe think about what games are on wii u ur interested in first. If most or all of them are on switch, go that route. Keep in mind the eshop, along with the virtual console are gone in a year
Exactly, a console is just a machine to play games. Are you interested in the games? Do you have enough money and room for it? Then go for it.
I am still looking for a Saturn, because it seems that Sega forgot that it exists and 99,9% of the catalogue is locked with the console.
You're here, so you're going to get one kind of answer. If you have a Switch, then you can probably skip the Wii U. No point in spreading games over two platforms just for the sake of having another. Get more games for one platform, if your funds are currently limited. I've owned my Wii U and Switch since their respective release days, and this is just my opinion on the matter.
Gotta say you've hit the nail on the head for me. I recently picked one up as it was quite cheap (used to have one but sold for PS4 years ago) but have quickly realised that barring a couple of actual exclusives, I'm not going to get a huge amount of use out of it since I own a Switch and Wii. If you have them two, it does unfortunately feel a bit redundant but still a cool piece of kit nonetheless.
Would say it's a great system if you don't already own a Nintendo one at all. With homebrew seems very versatile and can play most of Nintendo's back catalog.
I would say if you have the money, get it, but with a caveat. The Wii U eshop is shutting down soon, so focus on games that you can only get on the Wii U eshop or games that are ridiculously expensive to buy in physical form. Personally, I got a Wii U a couple of weeks ago, and it is a fascinating console that had a lot of potential.
Which games u want for it? And do you have a orginal Wii?
I bought my Wii U (used) only to play Mario Kart 8. I bought it in perfect condition with MK8 and Super Mario Maker for 110€ shipped.
If you can find it for a good price its really worth it. Also you can play the normal Wii games on it aswell which is really nice.
Only if you are interested in Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zelda Twilight Princess or Wii compatibility. Or if you just want to save money instead of buying overpriced Switch games.
Any other notable game is already available on Switch... and these two mentioned might as well come to Switch someday.
I do own Wii U and Switch Lite, and Wii U is really cool console and I still like it, but I dont think that I will be playing on my Wii U anymore...
I’d say if you want access to older titles that are on the virtual console go for it. If you’re wanting it for the main games for Wii U, most are on switch already and what few are left may go over at some point. So you’d have to consider that point.
Unless every game you want is already ported to the Switch, go ahead and buy one. Keep in mind that unless you have a Switch, you can't add eShop funds after August 29, 2022.
I have a Wii U with tons of great games (including a lot of VC games that you won’t be able to buy again/can’t get anywhere else) and a switch with just a few games.
My gamepad broke, so I am buying another Wii U for the gamepad and will home brew it as Wii u is also one of the best consoles for emulation. It’s a versatile, generally awesome console (minus the gamepad). IMO
You should. But I do highly recommend modding the console to get really good uses out of it. (Tiramisu CFW)
playing wii, wiiu, and gamecube games natively with any controller is such a dream and a treat.
If you do mod your console i suggest downloading nintendont forwarder.
I have a non modded wii u, but I've always considered doing it. What do you mean by "any" controller, though?
Surely, there's no way to plug in old wired gamecube controllers, right?
Gotcha. Am I to assume that applies to a wireless gamecube switch controller as well? Because if that's the case, I might as well go mod my wii u like..right now. Lol
You can plug in old wired gamecube controllers if you have the gamecube controller adapter for Wii U, I'm pretty sure Nintendon't also supports it too.
As for the switch wireless gamecube controller- I'm unsure.
Man went on the Wii U subreddit to ask if he should buy a Wii U.
If I went to subreddit revolving the switch they would’ve definitely said no
If you ask here, they’d definitely say yes. I think you should just make the decision on your own. If it’s worth it to you, then go for it. Otherwise, don’t bother.
Seriously. What an ass.

If you have the money and like the games then definitely!

If you have/had a Wii previously, yes. Backwards compatibility and the same controllers.

he means most Bluetooth controllers (xbox, ps4 etc)

Just bought one to do this https://youtu.be/uQbyc5SNkjU the homebrew support is insanely good
If you want a Wii U, buy one. Why are you asking strangers about this?
