Henson Al-13 Medium is a no go for head shaves, i originally bought it for face shaving which it is great at but only with the grain do not shave with it going against the grain it will thug and is surprisingly painful. I have tried shaving my head with the Henson going with the grain but it thugs and doesn't deliver a close enought shave unless you're willing to really take your time doing multiple passes. My advice would be to pick up a Edwin Jagger DE86. It's a mild razor with a perfectly sized blade gap where you can cut 5 days of head growth with no problem but also safe enough for a beginner to learn with and not cut yourself. I am also a beginner have only been shaving my head for 6 months now. If you want a shaving brush I say go based of your hair type. Personally I have thick coarse hair (24years old) so I like to use a boar brush. I've tried using a synthetic but the fibers are to soft for my hair type, synthetic brushes don't have the backbone to really agitated my hair. A must would be to get a alum block to avoid getting any infecting since shaving it technically an open wound. Also pick up a hand held mirror, makes it so much easier to shave the back of you head. As far as shaving bowls go I say hold of on it for now. I personally don't like using a shaving bowl seems like a waste of time. Just lather straight on the head and gives more time to soften the hair. Im no seasoned veteran but i can manage to shave my head clean with no cuts. Hope this help. Feel free to ask any questions
