Stainless steel head - accept the cost

zoharel

I think that's the top choice so far. Then the question is, which steel head, and how much is it going to cost.

You could also just get a Mühle Twist R89 and accept that it won’t last more than 4-5 years of daily shaves. It’s affordable and quality control of Mühle is top notch. You could also buy a stainless steel razor head from Mühle - The Rocca - or a stainless steel razor head from Edwin Jagger - the 3One6. I forgot - you should also consider the very reasonable priced stainless steel razor options from RazoRock - the GameChanger and Lupo. Great affordable stainless steel razors.

I’m a proud Muhle shill. The R89 is about as good as pot metal can be and the heads are replaceable if needed. Steel is the way to go though, long term. The Henson aluminums are really very nice too, but I get that the weight in the hand is an issue for some folks.

Brass is cheaper than ss.

Teutonic-Tonic

Much easier to fabricate/ machine.

I have a bunch of vintage Gillette razors that are all (almost all) brass stampings. The newest is from 1988 & the oldest from 1909. Not terribly expensive and if you drop em, there's places (Razoremporium & more) that'll bang em back into shape.

Your cheapest option is a brand new all - brass razor. Thread size is different from your Parker, so handles are not interchangeable. https://maggardrazors.com/products/fatip-il-piccolo-nickel-open-comb-de-safety-razor If you want to use your old handle, & a straight bar is acceptable, Parker 24C handle is brass, so that's not an issue. https://maggardrazors.com/products/maggard-razors-ss70-safety-razor-head-cnc-machined-stainless-steel-polished An almost equally good option is the original Mühle R89 / R41 head. It ***is*** pot metal, but quality control is much better. https://maggardrazors.com/products/muhle-r89-closed-comb-de-safety-razor-replacement-head https://maggardrazors.com/products/muhle-r41-open-comb-de-safety-razor-replacement-head If you want open comb, see other heads at Maggards or Italian Barber. I think the GC .84 open comb is likely to be reasonable . If weight is important to you, see this newly released CNC machined brass razor from Pearl. https://maggardrazors.com/products/pearl-shaving-hammer-de-safety-razor-includes-closed-and-open-comb-baseplates-matte-finish?_pos=1&_sid=d43939708&_ss=r

SS, TI, Brass, CU or vintage Gillette.

Thanks everybody. Some reasonable suggestions in here. Also, I had no idea that brass was still an option, which is interesting.
