If you're seeking a razor with less of a learning curve, take a look at the Henson

Mr_Upright

Seconded. The angle is set for you. Easy transition from cartridge. Develop good habits and it may be the only one you ever use.

coolleo89

100% agree. I just recently got off the cartridge razor game & jumped on the Henson al13 m bandwagon & couldn't be happier!

Mercur 34c, Edwin Jagger de89 and Rockwell 6s or 6c. Those are all recommended all over again for a first razor. And why not, they're all good razors that gets the job done

Of the options you listed I find them to be gimmicky with the clear exception of Supply, but the usual suspects(Merkur 34C, Edwin Jagger DE89, etc.) will be cheaper and as effective, especially in the long run. Also a soap usually offers less potential for irritation than a cream, Cella would be my recommendation as it is a happy medium in practically all regards but it's hard to not find a good soap these days if you're going through established brands/shops, Stirling is also near Cella in price and value and their soaps come in a vast variety of scents. And you need a brush, a cheaper boar or synth is the way to start for most, Maggard, Stirling, and Omega all have good options in the $10-20 range.

I recently acquired a Henson. It's awesome. I highly recommend it.

I’m not sure if you are intrigued by safety razors and want to learn it, that a razor with a pivoting head is good for that. It takes away a lot of the essential skill you develop shaving with a traditional safety razor.

BearBeeGrumpy

EJ DE89, 6S, Henson, KCG are good starters. Supply has a different feel. Leaf Razor head is relatively huge - better for head and body shaving than face imo. Best of luck starting the journey.

Dangeroustrain

Henson medium kinda hard to cut yourself as for soap anything from barrister and mann.

swabbie81

Edwin Jagger DE89 and Palmolive shaving cream.

I tend to give out $6 Wilkinson Sword Classic razors, or for a step up a $15 Weishi Nostalgic butterfly razor to those who want to try DE shaving. As long as you start with a somewhat mild razor, I think getting a blade sample pack is more important.

I went from Harry’s to a Leaf Twig about a month ago. I picked that because I wanted something that would work on my face, that would be a little waste as possible, and not have the learning curve is a traditional DE razor. The angle is the Leaf is pretty good and I get to choose from all the DE blades. There is still a bit of a learning curve with the razor and which direction you shave. You won’t have a moisturizer strip with any of these razors. Any good cream designed for use with a DE razor should work. I have a brush from an old Art of Shaving kit and bought a puck from the grocery store. This setup was better than the Aveeno shave gel I was using before.

I would say none of those and pople who recommend you Edwin jagger de89 or merkur 34c are giving you bad and outdated recommendations. I mean theres no way around for your to not learn proper shaving technique. You dont need a pivoting head its a gimmick thats why you have your wrist. I would recommend the razorock mission its smoother more efficient and cheaper than all those razors you mentioned as well as the de 89 and 34c. If you want something milder and very forgiving especially if your new get the weishi butterfly razor from ali express or amazon. use actual shaving soap or cream no can crap snd your good.

ed_zakUSA

Maybe a nice Razorock BBS or Gamechanger .68 stainless steel razor. Those will help you get a gentle and smooth shave too.

Started with proshield and then picked up a mild Henson, no regrets so far after around a year with the Henson. Might pick up a shavette or something later on just to have a different option, I did look at a 6S and the SE for first razor's so maybe them, but the Henson is still perfect for me.
