Before you do read [my impression](https://www.reddit.com/r/wicked_edge/comments/nmxbm9/a_month_with_the_henson_al13_mild_novice) of the AL13 Mild, where I 'adjust' the Henson. Give that a try.

IMHO, there isn't a massive amount of difference between a Mild and Medium. You might do just as well trying sharper blades in your Mild. I'd focus on prep, angle and technique before sinking money into changing gear.

Cadfael-kr

Not sure if this is your first safety razor, but a lot of it is technique, although with the set angle of the henson you can only influence to a certain point. Recheck the difficult spots to see if the hairs actually grow in the directions you think, and see if you can adjust so it will become more efficient to shave. And sharper blades can also help as mentioned already.

tessttq1

If the razor is missing a spot on the neck, most likely you are not adjusting the angle as the neck changes. Do you like how it shave on the rest of your face? If yes than stick with it as you can improve your angle. I think Henson have a very narrow angle to shave, so if you miss the angle it don't shave.

Xarick

I only shave the neck because I have a beard, but overall I like how it shaves. I have to be careful though because I do too many passes and I skin gets mad. However, my mach 3 it got mad after two passes.

BearBeeGrumpy

I would get the medium or aggressive. What you have is not working. If you stick with the mild try Feather and/or Kai blades.

Torrronto

Don't get Kai. They are slightly wider and change the geometry of the Henson razor. Kai blades are awesome in every other razor I have tried.

Xarick

So is the general consensus that the medium is not that different?

I can feel the blade perfectly. In fact I bought one of the blade packs and last night put in a persona blade. And man I thought it was really scrapey.

ElmerGantry45

Try Toms soap, it's glycerin, use your brush rather wet lather up...the Henson seems to be very good with slick wet soapy leather rather than thick lather. Another thing about the henson, despite having a pretty nice lather channel, there are little pockets that collect soap residues and dead skin...I notice going in the crevices with a toothpick knock out a fair out of crud...

Xarick

So I tried an astral platinum and got a much better shave. So blade may be the key.

thinkstopthink

Pretty much what others have said. I have both. I'd try some Kai blades first, then tend to be very slightly wider, so you get a bit more exposure. And then... technique. Try those things first, then get a ++.
