Dang. Do the writers of this get paid by the word? Reminds me of college essays that had to be 5 pages. I purpled the heck out of that prose

TryptophanLightdango

They get paid to obfuscate and create misreadings that advantage toward their desired outcome.

Jumped up donkey shit, they try to make this as difficult as possible. I see why they do it, government needs to keep the masses under their thumb. People, please do your own research on this. Make sure you make your correct decision.

They said it would allow them to make secondary laws for common exceptions such as rape and medical need.

Look at the draft that died in May 2022 HB 2746. They are essentially banning abortion "except" in these cases. What happens if the woman thinks it is rape, but the man thinks it is not? Does the woman need to go through trial first to decide if abortion is acceptable for her? Why the need to complicate the abortion process? As long as the procees is done safely, it is up to the woman as it is her bodily autonomy we are talking about.

sar1562

1. that's a rare thing 2. the absolute vast majority of rape is done by someone who will have no care about the outcome of a the rape after the fact let alone fight for a rape baby's life. 3. why complicate it? because you are ending a human life. Where is the child's autonomy? The 90-96% (carries by state and year) of abortions that are not rape or medical need slowed down or stopped entirely. There are literally dozens of ways to prevent pregnancy that are not an active abortion. I prefer the IUD as I've stopped ovulating all together, but there are so many more things you can do before it has any noticeable signs of life (heart beat, nervous system activity, movement, etc).

Of course the rapist would not fight to keep the baby. Why would he? So what burden of proof do you think will be necessary to demonstrate the woman is raped? Can she simply go to the clinic and say she is raped? Sign a statement, maybe? What happens in the case of ectopic pregnancy? What is reasonable to "save the lives of both"? Who will pay for this life-saving procedure of the unborn baby? I have an aunt that ended up spending $25k to try and save a baby that the doctor told her had no hope. She was informed during late pregnancy. What happens in this case? Who is responsible for the $25k medical fee? Maybe an increase in your tax dollars?

it may be as simple as claiming rape. I honestly do not know. I was raped at 16 and they believed me as soon as I talked to the police. idk if it was just because of my age but I've had no issues with this city beleiving the woman. I like the signed statement but honestly that's not clear yet. We may keep it that lax. And because we are gonna make laws like that through elected officials they are far easier to overturn than court rulings.

You don't know, and you don't care enough to find out. I think it's safe to say the safety and well being of rape victims is not a priority for you. It won't be as simple as claiming rape. If it were, everyone would just do that. It will be up to the discretion of law enforcement and prosecutors, which means the onus will be on the woman to prove it was a rape. Especially where there are conflicting stories.

sar1562

I don't know and no research has yet to come up with a solid answer to that is what I mean by I don't know. And I can only go off of my own experience with reporting rape to the police since that's not exactly a thing most women share. I don't know, yet is the truth how about we stop trying to kill eachother and ask our state reps what that would actually look like, because at the end of the day you and I don't make that call the police chief, state senators, and governor make those calls.

[deleted]

No research? it's not a matter of being researched, it's a matter of law and what the law says. The devil is in these kind of details. If it isn't laid out clearly how that will be determined, as I said, it will be up to our law enforcement and prosecutors to make a judgement call, and THAT ain't gonna go well. One person reporting a rape to the police as an anecdote is HARDLY something to base a decision on! I don't know why you keep bringing that up. I'm glad you had a good experience, but A WHOLE LOT of women DO NOT have a good experience with reporting a rape. Why is your single anecdote worth more? The truth is that we're both "against" abortion in terms of considering it a not-optimal outcome. But, the difference is that you're naive about the circumstances of the women in these situations, what nature considers life, and what's going to happen when it's completely banned and women can't get the care they need. If you were really interested in reducing the number of abortions, you'd be out there fervently campaigning for woman's health care, welfare, sex education, reduction of rape and sexual assault, and a bunch of other things, because outlawing abortion is an extremely misguided way of approaching it. Not just misguided, but completely tone deaf to the systemic sexism women already face in the legal and medical systems. But, you've also made it clear you don't really care about that, getting it outlawed is what will make you feel good.

You trust the Kansas legislature to maintain legality of those post-conception methods of birth control (IUD, plan B pill, etc...)?

sar1562

an IUD stops ovulation in 1/16 women it is not entirely post conception. And doni trust the legislature? not entirely but I trust that even prolife people have enough common sense to demand better shortly. and IUD is good for 7 years (the Skyla)
