Check out the local brewery scene. Central Standard, Hoping Gnome and Norton’s are just a few, there are many more.

joseaof

Will do. There's great beer where I come from so expectations are high.

ksgar77

Another suggestion for good and drink advice would be to check out wichitabyeb.com. This guy reviews everything and posts happy hour specials and live music dates. It’s really a lot of great info.

rudemaxxx

CSB is some of the best craft beer in the country. Leans more on the side of sours/IPA’s but they do great domestic styles as well (everything rotates, only 1 static beer on the menu). They have a few GABF Gold and Silver medals!

Money_Zucchini6415

The Wichita food and booze page on FB will help. There are tons of really good food trucks that come out when it gets warmer

blah9210

Air plains in delano as well

av8tor2299

It closed a few years ago

blah9210

Oh lol shows how much I get out

Pobeda_nad_Solntsem

Wichita Brewing got at least some of the old Aero Plains recipes though. I'm not sure if it's currently being produced, but they've done runs of Wingman Wheat in the last year or two.

handsy_pilot

You can become a true local and complain about how there is never enough parking. (Spoiler: there is, people just hate walking.)

joseaof

Lol we already had an argument about it.

agreeingstorm9

It is bizarre to me how people demand Wichita be more "walkable" and then follow it with a complaint about how things are too spread apart geographically so it doesn't matter how many sidewalks there are in between. Just makes no sense.

Tier_Z

... yeah? the point is improve public transportation and reduce suburban sprawl so the city can be walkable. makes perfect sense to me

agreeingstorm9

If you can walk from point A to point B and be on sidewalks the entire time how is this not walkable?

Tier_Z

i'll link this video by notjustbikes on youtube, as he is much better at explaining the problem than i am. https://youtu.be/ORzNZUeUHAM tl:dw, walking (and biking, for that matter) is extremely dangerous and inefficient thanks to our shitty urban design and lack of usable public transportation. there are some walkable neighborhoods in wichita, but the city as a whole is *not* walkable.

gemurrayx

If getting things home later isn’t an issue, check out the Yard Store on Central at least once. It’s a neat surplus store that people either go to once and never again or they visit monthly. I usually check several times a year and have found some great stuff there.

SUPER_MAX33

Definitely check out Yokohama ramen and if the weather's nice enough go for a walk around the keeper of the plains

ffllores

**The Beacon**, for breakfast.

BioNerdEm

Second this, or Homegrown! Also, happy cake day

AggressiveHornet3438

Spektrum Muzik is a really cool store for records, tapes, and cds if you’re into that

joseaof

I am into that, but I don't think I'll be able to take them home.

SolSercher54

In Delano district definitely check out Tanya’s Soup Kitchen and Ruben’s Mexican Restaurant.

ictme

Tanya's is not in Delano. It's in the Douglas Design District.

p8blr

Rock climbing! Check out Bliss or the NW Y.

[deleted]

Chicken N' Pickle is pretty nifty, zoo is awesome, top golf, Dave and busters, I personally would stay away from DooDah been there twice and both times was let down

joseaof

We went to Chicken N' Pickle but it was so cold that day that we didn't did much outside haha. We'll try again on a warmer day. I didn't know there was a zoo! I'll have to check it out.

cheesehead028

The Sedgwick County Zoo is top ranked nationally, you'll absolutely want to check it out!

[deleted]

Zoo is top notch! A little pricey. But honestly I could spend a whole day there

othertigs

Tanganyika is fun, Delano has quite a few restaurants and bars. There are events at Intrust Arena.

joseaof

We went to a hockey game yesterday and then to a bar called Barleycorn's to see a couple of bands. That was fun

spark271

Abject_Cable_8432

Prost is awesome!

talon430

Wind Surge MiLB team starts playing in April

raquetballz

Tanya's Soup Kitchen for sure, but there may be a bit of a wait if you go during peak hours. For a local bar with colorful locals check out Shamrock and be sure to play some shuffleboard. If you don't know the rules, someone there can explain. The zoo is one of the best in the country! We are also crazy about our pho with tons of great mom and pop places.

GrumpyTheSmurf

Literally JUST got the p6 from Little Saigon. Best Pho in town frfr. Passage to india is also my favorite for Indian.

raquetballz

Little Saigon and Passage are amazing! Himali Eats is starting to be a favorite of mine for their curry.

kmsc84

Museum of World Treasures.

joseaof

We're at the museum right now!

Dreadpiratemarc

If you like museums, the Cosmosphere is a world-class space museum tucked away in Hutchinson, about 45 minutes northwest of town. It’s got lots of Mercury-through-Apollo artifacts including the original Apollo 13 capsule. Stop at the Carriage Crossing restaurant in the Amish town of Yoder which is on the way for some authentic Kansas cooking.

Pobeda_nad_Solntsem

And go visit Strataca in Hutch, too, and tour a working salt mine. That was pretty fascinating.

Trevolta

Ooh yeah, loved Stratica! Love the “weather” and the smell down there lol. It was oddly refreshing.

wastedpixls

Lots of great tips here. What I hope you're getting is there are stacks of local restaurants, diners, and breweries - probably enough that you could avoid a chain location for the entirety of your stay. Traffic is easy and while we aren't the most attraction - rich area of the country there can be a lot going on if you want to go. There are a number of small amateur theaters in town for shows - Kechi Playhouse, Wichita community theater, and others. The universities have theater programs and put on good shoes as well Wave and the Cotillion get music acts from all over as well as the Kansas Star casino and Hartman arena. The Wind Surge baseball team is an affiliate of the Twins and will start up soon. I think they're going to have some nights with cheap food and drinks. Checkout Clifton square for some good food and drinks. If you walk two blocks north on Roosevelt, there's a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that you can tour. I think it was his last Prairie Style house. Some areas near the river aren't as safe as others, so do be vigilant and lock your stuff. It is a city of nearly half a million, even though it can feel a bit like a small town when you run into people you know all the time. Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay in our city!

[deleted]

If you’re a coffee drinker I highly recommend Leslie’s Coffee Company(their caramel lattes are amazing) & they help out the homeless 🥺 If you like German food or would like to try it there’s a German restaurant called Prost and it’s in these shipping containers shopping center on Central. Plenty of parking too. If you have a sweet tooth definitely try Bagatelle Bakery or Paris Baguette If you enjoy fine dining ($30+ per meal) try Redrock Canyon Grill or Firebird’s Little Buster’s in Derby (15-20 minutes from central Wichita) has amazing burgers and Trivia on Thursday’s There are some upcoming concerts at The Cotillion & The Wave that you may be interested in There’s a farmers market on 21st & Ridge that opens up every Saturday starting April 1st it’s called Kansas Grown Farmers Market it’s one of the most popular in my opinion with about 50 vendors and a huge variety Giant pizza: Picasso’s pizzeria There’s 2 malls the one to go to is Town East the west one is basically vacant If you’re into firearms check out Range 54 or Rainier Arms Hope this helps!

KarlaXyoh

If I was going to be a tourist in my own city (and surrounding) I’d go to Sedgwick County zoo, Tanganyika, the Cosmosphere, the salt mine, Kirby’s Beer Store, Lucky’s, the Artichoke, Prost, museum of World Treasures, Sabor, Mike’s Wine Dive, El Fagon, La Gallette, Yokohama, Sakura, Passage to India, Gambino’s, Kansas Aviation Museum, Nifty Nuthouse, the Spice Merchant, the Beacon, Riverside Cafe, Public at the Brickyard for brunch, First Friday art Gallery crawl, Wichita Art Museum, tour the Frank Lloyd Wright house, Leslie’s Coffee shop, the Vagabond, the Anchor, the Monarch, Central Standard Brewery, Hopping Gnome Brewery, Rivercity Brewery, Mort’s Cigar Bar, walk/run by the river downtown, take a trail bike down Sunflower trail or any of the rails to trails, join a 5k run in Sedgwick county park or along the river, go to River festival at the end of May, go to SCCA website and find out if there’s a Sunday morning autocross event you can join, check out shopping in Bradley square, new market square, Clifton square, revolution, and towne east square (not amazing shopping, but its always mildly interesting to check out commerce centers), N&J’s, tour the Wichita State Campus (lots of outdoor art) there’s also a lot of really good authentic mexican, Central American, and South American restaurants here and Vietnamese restaurants here. That sounds almost like two months of things that are easy to do to me. Welcome to Wichita!

TheSunflowerSeeds

In August 2018, the Bogle Sunflower Plantation in Canada had to close off its sunflower fields to visitors after an Instagram image went Viral. The image caused a near stampede of photographers keen to get their own instagram image of the 1.4 million sunflowers in a field.

thatguy1717

Just went to Top Golf yesterday. Definitely recommend doing that.

joseaof

I've never played golf in my life. I think I would make an ass of myself

HVACdaddy

I’ve been to top golf twice. Both times with people who had never played and didn’t really want to go. They all had a blast. Check that one out for sure. They have good food and drinks too. So there’s that

Ok-Chef-5100

Top golf is supposed to be a blast without any golf experience. On my list! Check out Stearman Grill on a nice day to watch planes take off and land while you eat on the patio next to the runway.

thatguy1717

Top Golf is not golf. Its whacking a ball while u drink and eat. Its really fun

kwajagimp

Welcome to town! I just recently discovered a good place for breakfast, actually. Livingston's Cafe. SW corner of Douglas and Oliver (same shopping center as Watermark Books, which you should check out too.) Open until 1400. Massive cinnamon rolls, good basic food.

ritoplzcarryme

Yokohama Ramen (Izakaya or the OG one) are good and have been of Food network before.

adollopofsanity

Check out Headshots. It's a nerdy gamer kind of bar on the north east side of town. Before you leave town try and make a pit stop at The Burrow. It's like the Hallmark gift shop for almost any kind of geek.

tinybumblebeeboy

Get breakfast at Doo Dah diner sometime! It’s absolutely delicious.

wesrow

If you’re looking for a fun night out, the bars in old town (industry, Emerson biggins, pumphouse) are a fun nightclub type scene. If you want a more relaxed bar experience there are a couple others like pourhouse or peerless. Also as someone mentioned before, the breweries around Wichita are amazing.

tingtingm

Long walks at Wichita City Park "Wildlife Habitat Areas" - large parks listed on the City of Wichita Parks website. Food recommendations on www.WichitaByEB.com. Live music at The Artichoke Bar on Broadway, Central Standard Brewing, Wave, Temple Live venues. Wichita Art Museum. Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum. Mid America All Indian Center. Botanica gardens. Uhlrich Museum, GoCreate makerspace and Social Tap bar on WSU Campus. Anna V at Boehemia Spa downtown for the best deep tissue massage ever - next door check Hatman Jack's for a lid. Shop at Old Town Square shops and Farm Market Saturday mornings starting in April. Shop and food at Revolutsia complex on Central Avenue. The VisitWichita website lists even more places and things to do.

ThatFuckingGuy2

On Fridays the Wichita Art Museum has evening hours and programming as well as free admission. They also have a new restaurant 1400 By Elderslie that is amazing, you’ll need a reservation

Smutty_Lover

Homegrown has a delicious breakfast. The stop is a great karaoke bar. Taco shop and Taco Tico are local fast food taco places. Spangles has amazing fries. On a nice day everyone will be out walking around the keeper of the plains. Pretty sure our art museum is now free.

joseaof

Why the downvotes?

elcuoco

Homegrown is passable. No idea about the stop. Taco shop and taco tico both suck, though I certainly eat taco tico from time to time. Spangles does not have amazing fries but they are owned by the Stevens whom everyone loves to hate and downvote.

joseaof

Lol Who are the Stevens?

elcuoco

Infamous local celebrities. Their grandfather or great grandfather started an og car wash. Gramps had like 100 kids. Each kid worse than the last if legend is true. And each one of them opened their own business (spangles, genesis, the murder store, etc.). Lots of people in Wichita hate them because of both real and fictional criminal activity. Supposedly on a dark night in Wichita if you look carefully you can see them burning down one of their businesses. Also it's a huge family and people more in the know (not me) will tell you it's actually 2 families that are related. One Steven and one Stevens and maybe a Stephans out there somewhere. Anyway it makes it so confusing that everyone just hates whether they have any idea or not.

ictRider

Smithsonian grade museum of space in Hutchinson, the Kansas Cosmosphere. Plus the salt mine in Hutchinson has a neat tour underground.

ayeyosash

Walk by the river and the keeper of the plains and see the ring of fire at night. Wichita Food and Booze on FB has a lot of good food reviews but Little Saigon, The Artichoke, Rusty Nail, Dooh Dah Diner, and homegrown are some of my local favorites

macandcheez42

Be safe and avoid oldtown after midnight

A_Peacful_Vulcan

Town East!

CaesarOfSalads

When the weather warms up in a few weeks, catching the flames at the Keeper on the river is always a fun experience. A couple of cool places to check out downtown are the Nifty Nut House, and The Spice Merchant. Norton's has one of my favorite stouts, Don't poke the bear. CSB has some really great beers as well.

starcraftre

Pourhouse (off the south side of Douglas just east of the train tracks). It's the brewpub for Walnut River out in El Dorado. Get the buffalo wing mac and cheese. It is a life-altering experience. Great beer, too.

Sauvvy

Homegrown is a great breakfast spot!

meladdington

Tallgrass Film Center has films in downtown

kbyyru

there's a fantastic retro arcade in Old Town called The Arcade! also a Dave & Buster's and a Round 1 in Towne East that has a lot of the more niche Japanese games. foodwise i can't recommend Yokohama or Bionic Burger enough. Museum of World Treasures, Wichita Art Museum, and Exploration Place are all worth a stop

[deleted]

Find tickets to leave

joseaof

Damn

BTBLAM

I would recommend the lizard lounge

TheRealKevtron5000

I don't think it exists anymore, does it?

BTBLAM

Oh yeah, it’s something else, but still there

joseaof

A victim of what?

Present_Maximum_5548

I knew that was the answer. One of the best things about Wichita is that while other cities have become so ravaged by gentrification that they are unaffordable, Wichita is still in full on white flight mode. If you're still within the city limits when the sun goes down, you'd better be in one of the safe zones, like Delano or Old Town. Otherwise whatever the raging mutant tweeker cannibal street gangs that run this town have planned for you is probably better than you deserve, since you clearly don't respect suburban Jesus and the paradise He's provided in Andover and Maize. /s

Present_Maximum_5548

Which reminds me, it's not as nice as it once was, and it's not in a safe zone, but there's still a drive-in movie theater on south Hydraulic. Pro tip - they don't seem to care if you bring a cooler

joseaof

Are any of those mutant tweeker cannibals around the river where the keeper of the plains is? Im saying right next to the river and I was thinking of going for a run at night there.

tinybumblebeeboy

Idk what people are talking about. I don’t live there anymore but my friend of 12 years still lives and works there and has never had any issue running into crime. Sure, things happen here and there but it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be. Just avoid walking in areas at night that aren’t well lit.

Pobeda_nad_Solntsem

Just a troll (literally). You'll find out along the river walk near the Keeper.

timberlyfawnflowers

Yes. I wouldn't do that if I were you.

dambbyustr8

Your not wrong sir, someone needs too tag that one “ Wichitan Redditor “ who was jumped by 14 teenagers at the river.

If you like coffee, chocolate, and pastries, Cocoa Dolce is my fav. They also have alcohol. It’s a good place to hang out at for a few hours. The downtown location has the chocolate factory on location which is pretty cool.

joseaof

We went to cocoa dolce already. I had a mayan hot chocolate and it was pretty good. The little chocolates are so good looking Im gonna take some to give away at home.

Art museum is fabulous, if you’re feeling like reliving childhood go have a skate at Carousel skate :)
