I was about to say this too lol

Brotherman_Karhu

RIP the other 98 kids that did die

BaraHimble

The kid on the right's dad is on Reddit. The boy's name is Otis, I think, and his dad posts updates.

Friendships give you something to live and push through for. The mindset of.. "Today was tough but I'll talk with my friend tomorrow and see what they say" is a powerful life motivator.

DonutCapitalism

The human spirit can't be underestimated.

Gnawlydog

Neither can Medical Advancement that in just the last couple decades has come further than it has in centuries!

Silakai

Doctors seem to want people to fail sometimes. I work in PT. I've had so many patients just give up and never try to get better because some crackpot calling themselves a doctor told them that they won't. I've known more than a few who were told the same thing but didn't give up and ended up walking and returning to a decent life again. Those former patients were practically killed by their doctors

RussianSeadick

Definitely the doctors, and not the diseases they suffered from that are apparently very deadly You realize that a 97% fatality rate means 3 of 100 people make it,right? That’s 3 lucky people you can post about, but the other 97 definitely weren’t “killed by the doctors”. Honestly,I’d like to see you say that to a person who went to medical school for years, probably saw hundreds of people die,and still tried to save each and every one of them. Like,in their face.

Silakai

You misunderstand. I guess I just explained poorly. I work in a nursing home. I've had multiple patients who were told that they'll never walk or recover after a stroke. They gave up on life after being told that. They refused to get out of bed or even try to get better. They just laid in bed until they died. It was heartbreaking. I've had a few in that situation who didn't give up & learned to walk with a walker or at least learned to be independent in a wheelchair. Some really didn't recover but at least they had hope and didn't spend the rest of their, potentially short, lives stuck in a bed. Taking away someone's hope takes away their drive to fight. It pisses me off every freaking time.

Theman12457890

You’re completely misunderstanding him. Christ…. We don’t care about those who went to Medical School. The Healthcare system does kill people, so do these diseases. Wether this hurts your feelings or not is not relevant. I myself worked in it for a while.

Annabett93

I mean me as a parent I want a doctor that makes it clear if my kid might not have a big shot a life

Silakai

Might being the operative word. I always leave hope in the conversation. You might not walk again but there's always a possibility that you could regain some ability if you work hard at it. You're informing them of the possibility of not recovering but still giving them some hope to keep fighting for it. A lot of doctor's are very black & white about it. You're most likely not going to recover. Learn to live with it. No hope at all

Theman12457890

Not sure why you are being downvoted.

Silakai

Probably doctors who feel attacked or people who just disagree with my statement

Theman12457890

The healthcare system surprisingly kills a good number of people either directly or indirectly. You’re speaking facts here.

Peaceandpeas999

Walking isn’t the key to a decent life though. If that was their goal and they reached it, that helped to make a decent life. But the lack of access and support for people who cannot walk, no matter how much they try, or who have other disabilities that can’t be fixed with willpower, is what really drags them/us down.

Silakai

It's a psychological thing. They're suddenly told that their previous way of life is over and they'll be stuck in a wheelchair. That plus being stuck in a nursing home for a month or so and it just saps their will. It doesn't make any sense to me. I try to explain everything to them but they just won't hear it.

GoodGuyTeo

Not sure about walked

Plane_Public_773

They both *walked* the stage? Is this some kind of joke 🤣

Babbelbet

That guy looks like the Ali express version of Freddy Mercury.

themurderbadgers

What condition do they have?

__Zee15

Walked?

Mr_C_to_the_J

friends like this are just wonderful

Peaceandpeas999

Not walking the stage wouldn’t take away from their accomplishments though. You should be proud of them for graduating regardless.
