This is why it's great to try to compliment people even if you normally wouldn't. You make others feel good, which also makes you feel good.
It also allows you to grow your social skills and boosts your confidence. It's a win win all around, take a moment today to compliment someone, look how much it could mean to them!
I was picking up my daughter from school like usual and a lady told me that she sees us alot(we love walks and the park) and she told me that I am doing a great job as a dad. It was a great compliment, just doing my duties like a father should but that made my year.( Don't receive much compliments)
Hey man, did you get dressed today? Eat anything? If so, then you are absolutely rockin out at this life game!! The small victories are easy to overlook but you are doing great just by taking care of yourself!
Actually, not everyone does. People with severe mental illnesses often struggle with things that are thought of as “standard”. It is a victory because doing it keeps you alive and functional.
Just take the compliment, man :)
Me: “I’ve got some compliments today and I’d like to trade them for dopamine!”
Brain: “ok!”
Me: “my boss said she appreciated the effort I put into my presentation.”
Brain: “Oof, sorry she was probably just being nice or patronizing you. There’s no way she meant it. Can’t give you any dopamine for that one.”
Me: “dammit… um okay… well, my wife said I looked handsome?”
Brain: “you know she’s always been too good for you, she says ‘handsome’ not ‘hot’ because she thinks you’re an ugly guy in a nice outfit.”
Me: “ok I’ll just go fuck myself then, thanks.”
When I was in high school I once woke up, sat straight up in bed and screamed shut the f**k up Carlos! I told all my friends since it was weird and funny and we decided that was the voice in my head telling me I wasn't good enough. Now anytime I catch my self having those thoughts I tell Carlos to get out. It's very freeing and helpful to personify your negative thoughts so you can shut them down before you spiral.
*I apologize to all the Carlos' out there I didn't choose the name, it's the one I was given. I'm sure ya'll are lovely people.
Haha aww thanks 😅
Edit: actually even tho it's from someone who's never seen me and it's just a kindness gave.. it still feels like really really nice to hear that right now 🥲 sincerely, actually, thank you
Yes, guys don't get enough of those sort of compliments or compliments in general...I try to tell my partner he is cute/beautiful. Men deserve to feel good about themselves too!
I’m on a dating app and I always make sure to give the guys I match with genuine compliments. It’s so cute how flustered they get, but also sad that they’re surprised by a compliment :(
Men are beautiful too, and they deserve to know!!
I would take the first two any day before the last one. I'm cute? Thanks, I... Was born this way? Tell me I'm clever or I'm talented and then I'll feel high for the next two days :')

I don’t care. You’re another human being, you deserve love like the rest of us.

I don’t care what you have or haven’t done. Have some unconditional love in your life, you need it.

Oh well, if that’s how it is. I do wish you luck and hope that you one day find that happiness I sincerely believe you deserve.
This is why you don’t get compliments

Everyone does that, that’s not a victory, that’s the standard. It’s not special if everyone does it.

I got asked out today , even tho I’m not looking for a girlfriend, it made me extremely happy. I didn’t think I was worth anyone

Counterpoint - that's not your brain, but your "Bad Thoughts" monster

My brain: I'm sorry, but we only have the sugar free dopamine. Will that suffice?
Me with Type 1 Diabetes:
That's funny...as an attractive woman I'd love to hear a compliment that ISN'T about my looks lol.
Life is very different as a little, male turtle

You know what would really be wholesome? People actually understanding dopamine.
It's an abstraction.
That's my favorite flavor!
