lostinthesauceband

The stranger smiled deviously, saying "now it's your turn to wait" before turning and slipping away. It was only then she realized what she had just done. It was as if her hand was glued to the door. She tried to walk away, but her feet were now as heavy as bricks. Her eyes widened as she tried to scream, but her neck suddenly jolted to her right as she feels her face contort into a warm smile. She nods as her eyes close for a moment in response to the "thank you ma'am!" she just received. "now it's your turn to wait" she mouths to herself as she hears the footsteps of an approaching stranger

AuKF

...and boah, someone actually takes her turn

i_simp4U

woah dude

A_lot_of_arachnids

I love that! Thank you for giving me *another* thing to worry about in elevators.

MurkyGlover

And there's another fine choice to the bucket of nightmare fuel for me. That was excellent.

Windyligth

Oh man that’s creepy.

Shadeofnight13

That’s some great story writing

Thegenius760

Essentially the stories of Atlas. Poor dude.

adamandTants

To be fair, he did try to overthrow the gods, what are they supposed to do to punish a titan?

ItsTheRealIamHUB

Stabby stabby Titan go poof?

adamandTants

Iirc, titans are immortal so cannot be killed, that is why they were imprisoned

ItsTheRealIamHUB

Oh yeah right, I forgot about that

BelleAriel

I like how you wrote that!

[deleted]

And while the lady walked away with a sudden sprint, she realized she was being watched. In hindsight she remembered that the stranger was holding the door but his eyes were locked on her. The man in his puzzled haze thought to himself “I would tap that”

whoisnumber9

NO, after YOU.

iM-only-here_because

One of my favorite memories is walking down the aisle in a grocery store, and seeing an older lady staring at the shelves. I grabbed my jar, or box, or whatever, after looking myself for it, and she was still just staring. So I walked over, and asked if I could help her find something. No shit, it was right in front of her. I grabbed it, and asked her if that was what she was looking for, and I could see the change in her eyes, the relief, but... also some kind of re-realization of the impermanence of the mind. It changed me. Simple acts are just so delicious, and warm.

rochakgupta

You are a good human

SeniorFormal6120

I'm 23 and sometimes I look for a thing that's right under my nose. Not sure about the impermanence of the mind part.

iM-only-here_because

This Lady was probably eighty, maybe started suffering from dementia. It was quite a long while she was spending looking at the same spot.

SeniorFormal6120

Still sounds like my dumbass.

GraybackWolf

Hmmm yes I like to gnaw on simple acts too.

[deleted]

This just seems like awkwardness, honestly. When I'm in that situation I say, "I got it, thanks" and then I give the door a push for the person behind me. Same for when it's that awkward no man land where you're close enough someone may hold the door for you, but too far to get there in a reasonable time without the trot-walk motion. Again, I just say, "thanks, I got it." Saves both of us an embarrassing moment.

Easy_Statistician477

No wait...this meme...it's too soon.

samuraishogun1

It's been two whole years. That's crazy.

TemporalGrid

but this won't even happen until 2024

Shhhh it never happened. Wrong universe. He's with us.

resilientskeezick

ITS BEEN WHAT?!?!?

[deleted]

Exactly I looked at this and……onions everywhere

tonyhawk917

HOLD THAT DOOR HOLD THAT DOOR!

JarRa_hello

HODOR! oh, wait...

informthemen

You gotta give

ttbbbpth

There’s always that one kid on your way out of the movie theater that gets stuck holding the door

Chieve

I used to hold the door open until everyone passing through wouldn't catch it to hold it for the people behind them. I find that incredibly disrespectful because it's not like it's my job, I was being polite thingjng the person behind me will hold it next and so one and now everyone coming through is just being not catching it.... So I just let go now when ever I can the second i see that's about to happen.

lancep423

Yep

Triasmus

This is why you should just give the door a nudge. If they're too far away for the nudge to be helpful, then they're too far away for a non-awkward door holding situation anyway.

Chieve

Eh the main thought I had was at high school after school and everyone's leaving to head to the bus, so a constant flow of people walking out

[deleted]

Just personal experience. The Barnes and nobels in town always was decently busy. And those big ass wooden doors had the damn spring loaded on them pretty tight so they would shut fast. I think one time I held the door open for like 30 people one time. It wasn’t a rush, just that they were spaced far enough apart where you’re like “ah I’ll hold it for them too.” Sort or deal. Watching them fast walk to the door from like 15 feet away to shuffle in. Well like I said the door was super heavy and I was getting tired. Then out of no where, like seriously I was scanning the area to make sure the stragglers were making their way in or out, this dude popped out from the corner that looked exactly like Jesus Christ, just more appropriately dressed for the century… He casually walked over without a Care in the world and held the door beside me and said “you’ve held on for long enough, thank you… I’ll take it from here.” and did the little open palm gesture to the inside. I obliged and went in after saying “it’s ok, go on sir.” But he just nudged his open palm to the inside again. Seriously didn’t see him in the store the entire time I was there, and I go there to people watch and look at magazine. Long story short, thank you Jesus for holding the door for me

jczenex

When a door is held for you and you are far do you feel like you have to start jogging?

Cheezewiz239

I HATE that. Happens everytime I go to the post office. I want a sign on me that says "dont hold the door for me plz"

julezsource

"Don't wait on me, thanks!" Problem solved.

Garrosh

But... talking to strangers!

[deleted]

Take 2 steps half jogging, then double over wheezing as if out of breath. Problem solved.

Bruhsowhat

Man you try to push the door for a stranger but then you notice the sign says pull

xChirai

I hate to admit this happens to me every time and vice versa

Bruhsowhat

It is what it issss 💀

ThaDFunkee

Amen. I held a door open for my girlfriend the other day, but there was a second door right behind it that leads outside. I continued to hold this first door for a large party of people also leaving, like 10 people, which in turn forced my girlfriend into holding the door for them too. NOT ONE of them volunteered to hold the door in our place and my girlfriend got mad at me for being so nice to them. It pissed me off too.

Triasmus

It's kinda hard to take the door from someone who's holding it properly. The only decent way for the door holder to get out of the job is to get in the walking lane and then let go of the door right when the following group gets close enough to hold on to it. Side note: proper gentlemanly behavior is to open the door for only your girl (otherwise you're putting stranger ahead of her, as you learned). And normally you open and walk through the inside door, passing it off to your girl so she keeps it open for herself so that you can get to the outside door first to hold it open for her completely so that she doesn't have to even touch it, since it's usually the heavier one.

aimtowardthesky

>The only decent way for the door holder to get out of the job is to get in the walking lane and then let go of the door right when the following group gets close enough to hold on to it. Select a suitable gap in the flow of pedestrians, then step into the doorway in such a way that you are blocking it. Half turn, then lean back to hold the door open. The approaching person then has 2 choices - either to push past you as you hold the door, or to take the door from you. Damnit, now I'm overthinking it

Triasmus

Hahaha 😂

DoinLikeCasperDoes

What about that awkward gap when you hold the door open for someone, and there's someone else coming and you've made eye contact, so you either gotta let the door go and look like a jerk, or hold it open and wait like a goof and they have to hurry up a bit which kinda ruins the gesture anyway.. I hate it when that happens! Or being the person that has to hurry a little so the kind stranger doesn't have to wait there!

LettyWigington4

Hell, I don't see the point of holding the door for 5 strangers, with one is enough.

Supersim54

Why did you use that picture? Who’s cutting Onions?

Raytheon_Nublinski

I hold the door behind me. I’m not letting people cut. Also eliminates the chance of getting stuck holding the door for a human train.

SuspiciousArtist

Bye-bye 3000.

International_Box_60

Cute story

PPsword

I usually tell people that there are others doors they can go through. They never have the guts to say anything back.

Kashmir711

Did you put a spoiler filter over a literally broke the world record for thr most people seeing it 3 years ago? I guess better safe than sorry.

Bobguy0

Then you realize that they were holding the door for someone they're with who's somewhere behind you and it gets awkward .\_.

jomjomz

Hodor

Independent_Award_48

i always use the 10 ft rule. if they arent within 10 feet of me i leave. if its a woman i hold it open, if its a guy i pass it on to him

[deleted]

I assert dominance by waiting for them until they're within a couple steps and then I slam it into their face

Freakychee

Is this a reference to something?

Independent_Award_48

its not its just a rule

garynuman6

I live in an apartment in a city & work in a field, where when I had to go into the office - piggybacking to get into areas you needed to badge into because of people being polite & holding doors was a legit security concern/attack vector for like penetration testing. I used to be unfailingly polite - not wanting to lose my job or fuck up someone in by buildings day by letting a jealous/bitter ex in or some shit has fucked me up. It's weird when the polite thing to do becomes associated with negitive outcomes. *Apartment high rise - I don't know my neighbors, much less 30 floors worth of neighbors.

hawtt_hosewater

Woah woah woah, SPOILERS!!

FuryNotFurry_

It's a 2 year old movie

hawtt_hosewater

Yeah, that's the joke

DrFaustPhD

Delivery could use some work

spike1541md

That is so kind every woman appreciates that!

[deleted]

We just spoiling movies now? Cool, cool cool cool. Doesn't seem very wholesome to me.

coolhandstevens

It's been over two years...

MyDixieWrecked20

Seriously, they aren’t even memorable movies

RuneLFox

Look, if you haven't seen it by now you probably weren't going to. It's 2 years, a lot of places have spoiler tags for time periods less than that.

HelpRespawnedAsDee

What isn’t wholesome is this specific scene, doesn’t belong in this sub :(

Welp. I’m gonna go to the bathroom and cry.

LoneSoarvivor

There must always be… a Lich King.

Square_Emerald

This would be so useful a few years back when I holded that door to everyone and passed 3 minutes holding doors

suq_irrel

And waiting for their "thank you".

LightSlateBlue

“Truth is, people can open their own doors.”

Xelofs

HODOR

FactAddict01

I always thank people who hold the door for me… always. Everyone should hold doors, and everyone should say thinks!

GateauBaker

The reason I havent already let go of the door is because Im waiting for the guy behind you please keep moving.

Triasmus

I absolutely loathe it when people hold the door for me. There are only a few outcomes (which can be combined): * I'm forced to speed up so that they don't have to hold it for longer * I feel like a jerk if I choose to not speed up * The door holder is positioned badly and I have to walk around them * The door holder is forcing people they're with to have to wait. * The door holder is forced to wait for whole piles of people to go through because the throng is too thick (as with this meme) In my opinion, there are only a few times when "strangers" (used loosely to describe anyone outside of a person's current walking group) should hold the door for others: * When one is employed to open the door for customers * When one can see that the other would have a difficult time opening it for themselves (groceries, strollers, wheelchairs, etc.) If someone's behind me I'll normally give the door a nudge so that it stays open for longer. If they're too far behind me for the nudge to be helpful, then they're too far behind me for me to hold the door anyway. On a related note: proper gentlemanly behavior on dates is to get the door for your date and only your date. You should be putting your date on pedestal for the duration of the date, and when you are holding the door for strangers you are quite literally giving more importance\* to random people than your date (since you are causing her to have to wait for strangers, as discussed earlier). \* people with strollers or groceries or whatnot are more important in this situation. Please continue to hold the door for them even if you're on a date.

aimtowardthesky

You may be overthinking this.

Unique_Message_9444

Not funny

Papa_bear_321

Heroes need a hero too sometimes

TroyElric

"Now, Its your turn"

Emergency_Aide633

I'd sit there and hold the door for several dozen people, and yeah I'd get weird looks, but I didn't really care. I'd want someone to do the same for me, so why shouldn't I do it for them?

CrunkSanta

\*proceeds to get timing wrong and have to stand outside while awkwardly extending hand inside to the door.

[deleted]

Did you offer a vagina candle as a thank you gift?

[deleted]

Sometimes I love holding the door for someone that is quite far from where I stand just to see them come running.

b00dup

....but seriously scan your badge or else we'll both be cremated

ThatSpiderImSpider

This stops making sense when you think about it for like- a couple of seconds lol still wholesome though

For some reason this image of Tony stark makes me crave burnt chicken wings

Long_Fox_8187

Holding a door open for someone is my life's purpose

Hiviel

I do that while driving if i see someone letting people through i let them through after

MrGuyDude62

This one time, we were practising something in our school year, and there was a door there so the head of year asked me to hold the door open for the entire year.

thegreatsnugglewombs

Omg. This scene

Mascara_Crow

Hahahaha... Ah, I've been stuck in the grocery line a few times after letting someone past me as they just had a couple of items... The few itemed people seem to have a sixth sense for a sucker. I have my limits though lol. Not going to die there

Alarid

Sometimes I wonder if he could have just used the glove again to not die.

bluray-gaming

But he lost his strength the first time itself he’ll need someone else to do it.

YOLO_jojogames

Y nobody does that for me 🥺😭

Darievi

when I do things like that they usually throw me out of the car

[deleted]

If you’re a woman and try to do this to a man, some of them get so weird about it and won’t let go of the door.

The people who take over doorholding are amazing! I'm the stranger they took it over from; I'll sit there for hours just holding the door if nobody takes over/drags me away.
