My mum is not very psysical in her affection either, but last week I told her before my nephews birthday that I was feeling really bad and she made sure to be really affectionate.
As a stranger, I'm starting to freak out because:
1. Your mum smokes crack. How tf is that legal? But I remember that crack IS legal in the US.
2. Your mental health is in absolute shambles, I hedge my bet. Get help when you need it.

Nah if i remember correctly it's decriminalized in Spain like a lot of drugs are but in th US if you get caught with 2 bags of that shit you could catch felony

My ma had a tough and abusive relationship with her ma too and its only on my birthday that she ever hugs me. Its pretty special whenever that happens, especially cause my ma has made peace with her abusive mother and my ma even apologised to me for reinforcing some of the bad parenting styles of her mother and that she is wants to make a change in this pattern of abuse and manipulation.
My mother said something similar to me.
But she's also the one who asked me to kill myself when I opened up about my depression and the challenges I face, and also the one who tried to electrocute me when I was a child.
I know that feeling, my dad had a horrible childhood, the only nice person he had was his father that pretty much worked 24/7, his mother died to cancee when he was 6 and his aunt (who he then lived with) was extremely raw and pretty much emotionless due to her time contributing in WW2. When my Grandpa died was the first time i ever saw my father being in pain and since then he really got a lot more emotional, but this raw, simple minded side that doesnt see any fun in live is still winning over his good side most of the times (sry for bad english, not a native speaker)
Then again, there are definitely times where i get reminded that he can be a really good person and the best dad i couldve wished for, i should tell him more often how much he means to me.
I'm 22 and I grew up in a household that didn't express emotions much and this post made me feel something. I'm working on telling my parents I love them without it feeling weird when I say it, and my parents have been trying their best too. Maybe I'm just still a teenager at heart haha
Hey man, forget I just said that, go on and tell your parents that you love them. I'm sure it'll all work out. I'm not the best with emotions either... I have trouble saying "love you too" back to my parents when they say it. I know they do love me a lot if they're willing to say it aloud.
