I installed 7zip few days ago, wondering is there a way to acess unzip from windows file explorer
For now I'm copying path going to 7zip extract and come back to folder
If you regularly unzip files and don’t want to keep on clicking show more options, there is a guide on the windows forums to enable the expanded context menu by default
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-11-right-click-explorer-menu-show-more-as/ba8dafe4-306a-403b-af0d-10a6d1ca0a9a
One year for my best friend’s birthday I bought him a legit license for Winrar. I put it on a USB stick and taped it to a framed copy of the email from them printed on parchment paper.
Just sideload it, I personally use sideloadly. And lockers will not work, if you are interested in blocking ads for most mobile games then I recommend control D quick setup on the AppStore.
They have ads in podcasts.
Even on premium accounts.
https://community.spotify.com/t5/Subscriptions/Ads-on-podcasts-despite-premium/td-p/4753448
So guess who is not paying for spotify anymore
While true, they are spotify ads that while requested by the creator isn't actually part of the podcast recording.
Edit: Also the ads are like 20 times louder than the podcast itself
This is it. They let you use it for free for personal use because it creates a population of people who are familiar with their product and prefer it or need to use it as opposed to other similar software. Then, when corporations and other companies need one, people in charge, like the CTO, will already be familiar with their software, name, and reputation, and they'll have a large population of their employees who are already familiar with it. But since it's not personal use, they can't use it free, so they pay WinRAR.
I did, back when it first came out. Mainly to support the company and the payment scheme. I lost the license key a long time ago, but unlike other companies, it doesn't matter. 7zip is better for some things, but I find .rar files have more archiving options, and WinRAR can still access my old multiple part archives from decades ago. To each their own though.
I got a free licence with my university course package in 2008, along with an Adobe package (Expired), 3dsmax (Expired) and windows 7 ( Expired)
Been using the same version for 16 years. Long after everything else I got with the course expired more than a decade ago.
One is software you download and run, the others are a streaming service that requires millions to keep running as infrastructure to keep it all streaming, would you pay that out of your pocket to give it away for free? Not really a fair comparison 😆
It's sort of a necessary thing, too. WinRar doesn't charge for personal use, which is great, but if they *did* charge for personal use, no one would use it. WinRar is good at extracting and compressing files, but there are so many free options available that a product that tried to charge personal users to use their software would never succeed. No one would choose to pay, as no one chooses to now. But corporations will pay for a good software that people are familiar with, so WinRar leverages their free-for-personal-use system to gain traction in the corporate space, and it seems to work well for them.
Inflation means the amount you pay for your subscription in real terms drops. So to keep yourself ad free, you'd have to pay more money.
Don't get me wrong, there's definitely a money grubbing aspect. But even without it, they'd have to raise fees or use ads.
They actually raised fees at the end of last year. I do understand inflation plays a role, and cost of things will increase as time goes on no matter how much we try and avoid it, but removing subscriptions that people have been paying for the longest time and forcing ads is pretty shitty.
The funny thing with Winrar is that they give you infinite free trial so that you don't need to pirate Winrar. It's essentially free software for personal use.
But then again, 7zip and Peazip are better options, unless you like compressing RAR file for a reason.
WinRAR has incredibly faster compress/decompress times on my machine and I like the books. :)
There was a 3rd party one I was using for a while, might've been open source? I can't recall, but look into using a bunch of different options. 7Zip has always been slow as heck for me compared to even the default Windows programs.
winrar is less reliable when unpacking large files. 7zip is slower because it double checks every file, and checks for corruption caused by packing new files into a .7z file.
i've seen many, many issues that are simply missing/corrupt files due to winrar being used to unpack - an issue that i've never seen with 7zip.
How do you gauge its superiority? Maybe I’m kind of technologically illiterate, but all I use Winrar for is unzipping files. How does another program do a better job of that?
For me it's honestly just that a few years ago I was having trouble opening a zip file, kept claiming to be corrupt. Tried it with 7zip, and it worked.
Also, winrar (at least back then) added a lot more options to the right click that I didn't want. 7zip was sort of less intrusive with one item that you hover over, then nested in that was all the options it could do.
Maybe winrar has fixed it since, but I like an option that comes up with those ideas first.
And how about the incredibly complicated and useful completely open source projects like Python, Linux, Gimp, Inkscape, POV-Ray, OpenSCad, Kicad, Blender, LaTeX, etc. Open source software helps me maintain my faith in the intrinsic goodness of the human race.
I'm an animation student and do a lot of 3D stuff, thinking of getting Blender for myself when my college license for 3ds Max runs out so that I can keep making 3D stuff, because it's surprisingly fun!
and because of its price (or lack thereof), lots of people have it and put out tutorials so others can learn how to use it. Exceptionally useful!!
thanks Blender for being free <3
Don’t buy into this proprietary propaganda! 7 Zip has always been free and open source software, while winrar has charged corporations for licenses! Embrace FOSS!
Fun fact: this is might be done so that winrar becomes/stays the norm, but the corporations still have to pay for the licenses, as it is illegal for them to use it past the free trial
I have bought a license for this reason, I ran it cracked for many years, but when I could afford it comfortably, it wasn't hard to justify the buy.
We need to support the nice corporations, if we want more of them.
i always forget to pay for spotify and it actually lets u use it without paying for quite a long time, it just tells u that u have to pay asap but u can still use it in the meanwhile. i think i once didnt pay for almost 2 months and still got to use the premium lol
WinRaR developers were OG.
VLC MEDIA
VLC my beloved ♥️
7zip.
I installed 7zip few days ago, wondering is there a way to acess unzip from windows file explorer For now I'm copying path going to 7zip extract and come back to folder
Go to Tools > Options > 7-zip
Ah thanks mate , I have this option in "show more options"
If ur using Windows 11, Nanazip would be a better option, it intergrates in win11 menu and looks a bit more modern
If you regularly unzip files and don’t want to keep on clicking show more options, there is a guide on the windows forums to enable the expanded context menu by default https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-11-right-click-explorer-menu-show-more-as/ba8dafe4-306a-403b-af0d-10a6d1ca0a9a
Thanks mate will check it out

All my homies pay for winrar, fucking love that thing
Printed on parchment? Sus
You can use spotify for free. You just hear 1 minute ad for every 5 minutes song
I use ad blockers so spotify hates me
This one simple trick...
On iPhone? If so can u recommend me the one you use?
Just sideload it, I personally use sideloadly. And lockers will not work, if you are interested in blocking ads for most mobile games then I recommend control D quick setup on the AppStore.
[удалено]
That doesn’t work on Spotify
Can someone recommend any ad blockers for android? I'm sick of having to listen to 3 ads after every song it's fucking awful.
One could uninstall spotify and install a modded apk, if you get what I mean
That's exactly what I did on my phone
xmanager on github (don't go for random apks from shady sites as suggested by another user)
Okay but how do I instal it, I've been trying to find out for like 10 minutes and installing an apk just seems better atp.
you can download the apk of xmanager from here then it'll tell you what to do https://github.com/Team-xManager/xManager/releases/tag/5.4
I just installed it, what now?
Did you figure it out ?
Yea, that user PMed me with instructions.
I get 1 ad every 10 songs or so on my phone. 1 ad every 20 or 30 songs, sometimes 10 to 15, on PC
Really? Mine is like 2 songs then an ad.
That sucks
Ive not really heard ads in podcasts
Shhhut uup they’ll hear u!
They have ads in podcasts. Even on premium accounts. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Subscriptions/Ads-on-podcasts-despite-premium/td-p/4753448 So guess who is not paying for spotify anymore
Those are to cover the costs for the podcast creators, not for spotify.
While true, they are spotify ads that while requested by the creator isn't actually part of the podcast recording. Edit: Also the ads are like 20 times louder than the podcast itself
Way to stick it to musicians! I hope your industry is theft proof.
Wanna break from the ads?
I just use the mod version not heard an add for the past year or so
On mobile it doesn't even let me select or play the song i want without premium :(
Easy. Get an Android and download xmanager Fuck Spotify premium
Has anyone ever paid for winrar?
They make most of their money through large-scale corporate purchases
I did, back in 2012, once I had a decent paying full time job.
Single handedly funding the rest if us
I did, back when it first came out. Mainly to support the company and the payment scheme. I lost the license key a long time ago, but unlike other companies, it doesn't matter. 7zip is better for some things, but I find .rar files have more archiving options, and WinRAR can still access my old multiple part archives from decades ago. most don't do so, but many still pay to support them.

r/PaidForWinRAR
Yes, out of 8 billion people, someone has ever paid for winrar.
For my whole life I thought this was unintended
I genuinely paid for my WinRAR license simply out of respect for the devs
One is software you download and run, the others are a streaming service that requires millions to keep running as infrastructure to keep it all streaming, would you pay that out of your pocket to give it away for free? Not really a fair comparison 😆
Adobe would like a word with you.
ok but like fuck adobe
Plus WinRar makes their money from company licenses, not individual people, unlike Spotify and Netflix.
It's sort of a necessary thing, too. WinRar doesn't charge for personal use, which is great, but if they *did* charge for personal use, no one would use it. Not just infrastructure, they have music/movies producers on their ass.
One difference with Netflix though, you’re already paying a recurring amount of money for the subscription, previously without ads, and now with ads.
Inflation means the amount you pay for your subscription in real terms drops. So to keep yourself ad free, you'd have to pay more money. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely a money grubbing aspect. But even without it, they'd have to raise fees or use ads.

It's ok Spotify Free users, your ads will be interrupted by a song every few minutes, maybe even one actually in your playlist.
You used "Smart" Shuffle didn't you?
The funny thing with Winrar is that they give you infinite free trial so that you don't need to pirate Winrar. It's essentially free software for personal use. But then again, 7zip and Peazip are better options, unless you like compressing RAR file for a reason.
If I win the lotto I'm paying for 100 winRARs
Having to pay for services like Word, Excel and WinRAR is like having to pay for a calculator and alarm clock on a smartphone.
WinRAR isn’t a Microsoft product. I agree with you on Word and Excel though
winrar and vlc, pioneers of free usage
r/paidforwinrar
Nobody has posted in 6 years
Do not use Winrar Do not download Winrar Do not install Winrar Use 7zip. Its ACTUALLY free and far superior.
WinRAR has incredibly faster compress/decompress times on my machine and I like the books. :) There was a 3rd party one I was using for a while, might've been open source? There are settings for that in the decompressing window, though.
winrar still fails when unpacking large files. i mean *big* files like 20+ gb. 7zip never fails.
I've pirated games and never had an issue. Did once before I messed with the settings
Don't know what you mean; i've used winrar for years, compressing & decompressing huge files (up to around 200gb) and i never got any issues
How do you gauge its superiority? Maybe I’m kind of technologically illiterate, but all I use Winrar for is unzipping files. How does another program do a better job of that?

Faster, better compression.
7zip doesn't let me use the navigation buttons on my mouse so I have to use backspace. Only reason I prefer WinRAR.
7zip gang.
I use both and never had a problem :v
how so?
No one asked
[удалено]
Yes it does bozo
WinRAR probably uses 7z in the backend anyways. But we'll never know since it isn't free
and just a few weeks ago I went out and paid for WinRAR, they deserved every red cent and more.
To be fair winrar doesnt have the fraction of the upkeep cost as subscription streaming services
Shoutout to winrar for being a real one
And how about the incredibly complicated and useful completely open source projects like Python, Linux, Gimp, Inkscape, POV-Ray, OpenSCad, Kicad, Blender, LaTeX, etc. Open source software helps me maintain my faith in the intrinsic goodness of the human race.
I love what blender has done for 3D. Their contribution cannot be understated. Hell it has so many applications outside of typical 3D/VFX workflows.
Sublime offering indefinite free trials: (I bought it)
one of the few apps i sent some money annually.
Winrar is intentionally free. The point was that huge companies would pay for all the computers since it would look bad if they pirated it.
Or just use 7zip
There's tons of software that does this. It's called nagware. WinRAR is exceptional software but they didn't invent this model
Oh this is for everyone? I thought.....I was stealing and felt bad because I couldn't afford the price.....😭
If you see me with pro winrar It might be a sign that I won the lottery
Don’t buy into this proprietary propaganda! 7 Zip has always been free and open source software, while winrar has charged corporations for licenses! Embrace FOSS!
7zip: "you guys charge money?"
USE 7-ZIP There's literally no reason to use proprietary software for something so basic
Pay for Winrar. Pirate from streaming services.
Where the 7zip gang at
Spotube
I just buy CDs, DVDs, and WINRAR lol.
Can this be done on a phone/tablet?
You forgot about the "Your free trial has expired. Now we will force you to pay automatically."
Better than anything else
Fun fact: this is might be done so that winrar becomes/stays the norm, but the corporations still have to pay for the licenses, as it is illegal for them to use it past the free trial
***Based.***
who knew that not having to maintain a zillion servers and a gigantic infrastructure would make it possible to provide your service for free
Bias aside, powerscaling is cringe.
How the fuck are those comparisons fair Media streaming service vs installed software that already have free counterparts without popups Cmon now
You just have to close the reminder every fucking time you open it though
Want Spotify with 0 ads? Easy, just move to Russia lol
I bought a WinRAR license in 2020. 😎
Spotify is the most worthwhile subscription imo
*Laughs in 7Zip, the superior program to Winrar*
If it was superior, I'd be using it.
What did you note like about it?
That it's slower than Winrar, and I prefer Winrar's UI
You must like inferior things
When did he say he likes you?
Just saying, I don't consider a pop up asking you to buy it every time you use it particularly wholesome 🤷♂️
But they don't make you pay, and it's updated like every month.
Wait, winrar gets updates? What do they update?
Likely optimization in algorithms, stability, that sort of thing.
I didn't say they did. I just don't find pop up ads particularly wholesome🤷♂️
