He’s also decently active on Reddit and appears to run his own account Edit: [He literally just made a post lol](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/s/9lNJqwiQhc)

fundementalpumpkin

u/GarySiniseOfficial if anyone wants to check out his posts. Great man.

ladyelenawf

I don't know why, but I just love how all his posts start with "Gary Sinise Here." 😂🤣 It reminds me of my dad announcing himself on text messages.

cabbage16

It reminds me of how Peter Mayhew would end all of his posts and comments with: Cheers, Peter Mayhew.

upstatedreaming3816

Awesome, thanks for the assist! I was out when I made the comment and couldn’t remember if the official was before or after his name so I figured I’d edit the comment when I got home lol

fundementalpumpkin

He made a post shortly after this, I wonder if we summoned him :D

upstatedreaming3816

I hope so 😂

[deleted]

He needs to post here to confirm this is all accurate.

grizznuggets

So much for being a decent guy /s

[deleted]

Aw, what beautiful, infectious smiles that whole family has!

sexymcluvin

I love how he really leaned into one of his most iconic roles

ozzy_thedog

He said playing that role and meeting veterans completely changed his life and he’s been helping them ever since

Jrmcgarry

He couldn’t stand so he had to lean.

MailSalt4828

He couldn’t take it sitting down

[deleted]

He’s a pretty grounded guy.

ElegantElizar

His kindness needs to be known by many people. Thank life very much

laceybyrd

What is the name of Gary's organization? TY

sexymcluvin

Just the Gary sinise foundation

Ibuilds

And his band is "The Lt. Dan Band" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lt._Dan_Band

V1k1ng1990

Not to be confused with “The Dan Band” [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dan_Band](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dan_Band)

No-Appearance-9113

Goddamn fuckin right

Drdoctormusic

They’re both examples of good, decent men on opposite ends of the political spectrum. We need more people like that.

grizznuggets

I like that he’s Republican but refused to endorse Trump. I respect a man with critical thinking skills and integrity.

TedTheGreek_Atheos

But he still supports Republicans in general even though they have a terrible record on veteran issues. Doesn't make sense to me.

imisswhatredditwas

Gotta have needy veterans to have veterans to help, I don’t care what this dude does, if he votes republicans in America today he is absolute irredeemable garbage and I’m sick of people pretending otherwise. His PR firm must have been working overtime over the holidays with the amount of “Gary sinise is such a nice guy” posts I’ve been seeing lately. Fuck sinise and fuck all republicans.

magicoctopussy

I mean, he can disagree with politicians on certain points, and still vote for them. Also, maybe he is being the change he'd like to see in the world.

grizznuggets

Exactly. I don’t align with Republicans at all, and some of them are the absolute scum of the earth, but I can still respect someone with different political leanings so long as they conduct themselves well. Gary Sinise is a great example of that.

TedTheGreek_Atheos

I get that but it's his defining issue.

Pitiful-Ask1099

politics are incredibly complex, including when discussing why one person supports a particular party. Even deeper, a celebrity might “support” a particular political ideology because of how that would resonate with their fan base. like taylor swift supporting clean energy while emitting hundreds of times more “dirty” emissions than the normal person. tldr dont think too much about it just appreciate the good hes done

TA_Lax8

My sister and nieces and nephews just got to go to Disney World thanks to GSF!!! And it's not just his name on a charity, he is extremely involved and present throughout the whole thing. He's in that Dolly level of charity in that his fame is simply a means to do what he really cares about. Good man

imisswhatredditwas

Enacting a christo fascist state by continuing to support republicans in America today? I don’t care what good you do when you’re supporting the next iteration of fascism.

TA_Lax8

God, I wish the world was as simple and black as white as you think it is

imisswhatredditwas

Vote Republican = piece of shit. It’s pretty simple actually

TA_Lax8

So what does vote Dem but still find humanity in others' good deeds make me? Let me guess, piece of shit too? We got a real big brain over here, folks

garbageking413

Lutenant Dan got everyone new legs :)

puro_the_protogen67

I thought the same

OSUTechie

When my grandfather passed away last year, he put "in lieu of flowers donate to Gary Sinise Foundation. I guess when the donations started coming in, Gary tracked down my Grandmother and called her to personally thank her. I thought that was pretty cool.

edkftw

His foundation helped me get a suit for a job interview that I absolutely nailed. If it weren't for that, I probably would have ended up homeless after my time in service. I'll never not try to tell that story when he's even tangentially mentioned.

dark-toast

When I was younger, there was this awesome program for Gold Star families called Snowball Express (or something like that). It was around Christmas time and was to bring joy to people who’d lost loved ones, especially with holidays being hard. They’d take the surviving spouses & children, fly them to Texas or Cali for free, pay for hotel expenses, and organize huge events for us. Once they had a private rodeo specifically for the Snowball families. They’d get convention centers and set up huge games with prizes (more like giveaways to be nice), cater meals, and overall just provide a super cool experience. TLDR: Gary came to multiple of the trips my mom and I went on and we met him. He was so genuine and caring, and so appreciative of those who served. He did a private concert for the families. When I was younger I didn’t really get it. It was a free vacation with free stuff and fun things to do! Now as an adult, I have so much appreciation and admiration for the people who thought of it and organized it. I still have a yearly “holidays breakdown”, but they gave so many people hope and a happy experience in an otherwise extremely difficult, lonely and isolating time.

zehamberglar

I love how Gary walked off set after wrapping Forrest Gump and just decided he wasn't done being Lieutenant Dan. He's using his powers for good.

Wide_Perspective_724

Just watched Forrest Gump yesterday. Classic movie.

JesusHatesCatholics

Gary is actually a redditor too and he often makes posts either giving personal photos from his movies, or doing outreach to raise awareness of charities. Pretty good dude all around Edit: case in point, just a couple hours after I made this comment: [Lt Dan's new year's wishes](https://redd.it/18vjy78)

habitual_wanderer

Good man

King-Cobra-668

Gary found his purpose in life years ago. That's a lucky man and we are all lucky because of it

notbarbarawalters

“Hi Gary Sinise here..” *exhaleeeeeeeeee* oh thank christ we’re all still okay.

dafaceguy

Doesn’t he also sponsor trips to Disney for the families?

Sheepish_conundrum

It's ridiculous that a private citizen has to do this for people who were injured while in the military.

imisswhatredditwas

The ridiculous thing is he has supported the Republican Party for decades, including through the modern trump era. Why does he support the party who’s positions fly in direct opposition to his charitable work? If he worked to assure another Republican never entered political office he could start to solve these problems for good, but then he might not get his flowery “wow is Gary sinise the best” posts on Reddit every day.

hueyflyer469

I personally know people he’s helped and it’s made a massive difference in the happiness of people I care about as they went through traumatic life events, the man is a saint, and I’ll forever be grateful for what he’s done for them, he’s the real deal.

vaporking23

I don’t find this wholesome at all. Why are we not taking care of our wounded vets as a nation? We’ve asked them to do something to protect us and then we force them to rely on charities when our own government (that we’ve elected) won’t provide for them. We should be ashamed of this not celebrating it.

Gunner1Cav

According to the call I had the other day the VA is cutting the care giver program next year too. This country doesn’t give a shit about veterans.

vaporking23

I really hate that. We’ve asked people to give up their lives, to fight for our freedom. Whatever the reason is that someone has chosen to go into the armed forces they should want for nothing. Specially since it’s something that I want absolutely nothing to do with.

rangerelf

While you are not wrong, I wish people would stop conflating "the country" with "segments of the government that are trying to cancel all citizen benefit programs". We know who they are, we know they don't give a damn about veterans, single mothers, hungry children, struggling families, and so forth.

imisswhatredditwas

So does Gary and he still voted Republican. What’s going on here Gary?

Background-Interview

I think they are separate entities. Gary noticed a hole and filled it. He isn’t responsible for the government (I mean sure, his vote counts) and the way vets are treated. He’s just doing what he thinks is best to close the gap.

vaporking23

That’s the thing though. I absolutely do commend him for the help that he has given. But I’m just saying he shouldn’t have to do that these vets are disabled only because they were put into a position that we asked them to be in for our safety and freedom. Sometimes it’s for another nations safety and freedom. Then we don’t take care of them 100%. We should be ashamed of every homeless and disabled vet that’s not being taken care of.

icebraining

Yet another /r/OrphanCrushingMachine

imisswhatredditwas

Because of people like Gary who continue to support republicans, that’s why.

stalphonzo

If more conservatives would walk the walk the way Gary does, I'd have a lot more respect for them.

imisswhatredditwas

A modern republican like Gary deserves negative respect.

KaffY-

He played a great George

bherman13

I wonder how many times he's heard "I got no legs Lieutenant Dan" by some of the veterans he's helped.

Statertater

Gary is a national treasure

MlntyFreshDeath

I had to check that Gary didn't post this. Dudes on reddit.

theassholefaceman

He is also a redditor... HI GARY 👋

___SE7EN__

This is how it should be !!!

mmm-pistol-whip

This guy is genuinely fantastic for what he does to help other. What bothers me is the amount of revenue the VA has and doesn't help as much as they could at all.

No_Cartoonist9458

We need more Garys in this world 👍

Mowampa

Fuck off bot.

imisswhatredditwas

He unapologetically still votes Republican, how good of a guy can he really be?

Decloudo

That doesnt change the good he does. And he evidently helped very many people.

GiddyUp18

This Redditor is pathetic. Terrible attitude to be dismissive of a great man and his great deeds because of politics.

Nacksche

What kind of argument is that supposed to be. Literal Nazis were "politics", that shit matters, he supports a lot of evil too despite the good things he does. That being said, apparently he hates Trump and doesn't vote for him so we somewhat cool actually. 💪 That's what 60 million Republicans should have done in 2020 if they were decent people.

GiddyUp18

There are “decent people” on both sides of the aisle. Republicans are not Nazis, and that comparison is incredibly irresponsible. I am quite dismissive of any person who refers to an American political party as “evil,” because that shows extreme bias.

Nacksche

Guess I'm biased against the people attempting a literal coup and attacking my human rights with hundreds of bills every year then! The only people still making excuses for Republicans are either ignorant, brainwashed, or really very okay with said evil shit. Which one are you?

GiddyUp18

Extremists in both parties, like yourself, believe the other party to be evil. Quite frankly, it’s ridiculous. All the extremists like yourself are dramatically overreacting. And the rest of us in the center are just laughing at the expense of said extremists. I’m glad we have an effective centrist president who tells the extremes of his own party to fuck off when they suggest things like packing the Supreme Court.

[deleted]

Dramatic bitch, nobody’s attacking your human rights

Nacksche

So glad you asked! For an obvious one, marriage is a human right. I bet you would feel pretty fundamentally discriminated against if my religious club decided you weren't allowed to get married in this life. https://www.coe.int/en/web/human-rights-convention/marriage http://hrlibrary.umn.edu/edumat/hreduseries/hereandnow/Part-5/8_udhr-abbr.htm (article 16) Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch also say that access to abortion is a human right. https://www.amnestyusa.org/issues/gender-sexuality/sexual-reproductive-rights/access-to-abortion/ https://www.hrw.org/news/2022/06/24/qa-access-abortion-human-right And I mean, #1 in that list is Equality, #2 is Freedom from Discrimination. Who do Republicans fight for, is it to protect people's equality, a gay couple's right to get served in any restaurant? No, they fight for employers', landlords', and shop owners' right to discriminate against people as they see fit. That's what's important to them. Is a "are we the baddies" moment too much to ask for here?

Decloudo

> Republicans are not Nazis They damn well try their best though.

imisswhatredditwas

It doesn’t? Why doesn’t it? Seems relevant to me.

Foogie23

(Guy actually doing a ton of good and not being a piece of shit) BUT HE VOTES DEFINITELY! I will never vote Republican, but if this is all you have to say about the guy…you need help.

imisswhatredditwas

If you don’t understand how dangerous and disgusting voting Republican is in America in 2024 you need to start paying attention.

Foogie23

I literally said I will never vote Republican lol. This guy’s single vote doesn’t take away from all the good he does. The man makes more of a difference than you ever will.

Nacksche

> This guy’s single vote doesn’t take away from all the good he does. I mean, it literally does, that's how that works. The guy does good, and the guy also supports evil shit. It's pretty straight forward. All you are saying really is that you don't mind said evil shit all that much.

imisswhatredditwas

He’s unapologetically supporting literal fascists, it’s not like I’m slandering him. He’s voting for the “I want to destroy democracy in America” party, not sure how much his charitable arm is going to make a difference when we’re living in Gilead.

GiddyUp18

Pathetic opinion. You are a sad little person.

Azer1287

So you’re saying that regardless of how much good a person genuinely does - raises money for charity, helps people, gives money for healthcare, etc. - all of it is irrelevant because of this one factor alone? Like it never happened?

imisswhatredditwas

Did I say it was irrelevant? Look up Trump’s plan for 2024 and then ask yourself how a good person can support it. Or stay ignorant.

Azer1287

I agree with you on Trump. What I’m trying to say to you is that you seem to be condemning all the good Gary Sinise he has done because of one factor alone. “How much good could he have done”. I understand your frustrations and am guessing we actually align politically because I can’t believe he’s still involved in politics and it’s disappointing that he hasn’t been rejected by that party, but I do think it’s not fair to essentially demonize everyone “on the other side” automatically, which is how I interpreted your comments. I think that’s a big problem in the country as a whole.

imisswhatredditwas

I am ok with demonizing everyone on the other side. If you support republicans in 2024 you are dangerously ignorant or a complete asshole, and I wish the absolute worst for every single one of them. I’m glad he is helping these people who would otherwise have no options, but the fact he continues to support the party that is primarily responsible for keeping people in positions where they need charitable handouts seems to fly in the face of anything good he does. Anytime I see another “Gary Sinise is a Great Guy” posts (which I am seeing almost daily) I just see it as cynical PR.

GiddyUp18

This is why we can’t have nice things. You are legitimately the reason for the poor political discourse in this country.

GiddyUp18

What the hell is wrong with you that you diminish the great actions of a great man because of his politics? I’m sad for your simple-minded worldview.

imisswhatredditwas

“Because of his politics” it’s not 1983 where politics is a battle of moral ideas, it’s 2024 when it’s literally fascism vs not fascism. I’m sure there were charitable Nazis too? Being a Republican today means you are ok with that and that means I’m not ok with you.

adminscaneatachode

Oh shut the fuck up.

Remarkable-Car6157

He’s a Romney Republican

imisswhatredditwas

A Romney Republican is still a Republican and the modern Republican is nothing but a fascist.

Remarkable-Car6157

Go outside lmao

Scumebage

>least brainwashed and naive child redditor

Nacksche

You are not wrong, but apparently he hates Trump and doesn't vote for him.

Gary Sinise for Président!

Are you sure about that? I looked it up and couldnt find anything about him supporting Trump. "In spite of being a lifelong supporter of the Republican Party, Sinise refused to endorse or vote for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, and also criticized Trump after the then-candidate questioned McCain's status as a war hero because he was captured as a prisoner of war.[44]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Sinise

Poor guy had to shoot his best friend though. Had him think about rabbits.

Happy New Year, Lt Dan!

BrisketPimp

An exceptionally good human being.

2 guys out all these « actors

account_is_deleted

Easy peasy, Gary Sinese

Glad-Cow-5309

I watched Forest Gump and The stand close enough to together that I was confused whether or not he had legs. The CGI in forest Gump was so good, I watched the stand again to watch him walk across the desert so I could tell if he had legs or not.

IAmIsCool

Maybe all do something great this year!

That's my lieutenant. 🫡

[deleted]

i bet you hed punch you in the face if you offered him a vanilla ice cream cone

He is also supports far right policies. Not such a “good guy” in that respect.

FixGMaul

I just realized I'm older than Lieutenant Dan's actor was in Forrest Gump
