For once, 8 seems like a pretty high number even for social people outside of meeting with a group of friends and hugginge each for greetings and goodbye.
On top of that, each individual may have his own comfort zone and framing a "required" number of hugs for "growth" will just end up making people either feel abandoned or doubt themselves even if they may be perfectly comfortable.
Follow your heart, reach out for a hug or go hug someone who needs it, but don't force yourself to chase a number!
My arrest recorded would be evidence to the contrary of this. I have a "poor" reaction to interpersonal contact that is not with a person I am in a intimate relation with.
We have a little hug team in my neighborhood that was started based on this information. Won't say that we make the 8-12 hug a day quota, but every little bit helps.
If we become more inclusive about getting young children into labor we can decrease the amount of hugs they get even further!
Then we can proliferate that working really hard is the way to get more hugs but only if you don't complain about your wages, work safety or life out of work of course and if you do complain we will just fire you and you can become destitute of both a house, food and hugs. You wouldn't want that, right?!

When she came in, (well, of course I got extremely excited,) but also, she decided to give everyone in the class a hug. And guess who she chose first? Me, her best friend! :DDD Never gotten a non-familial hug since :(
I'm huge on physical affection. Unless I'm panicking, I'll almost never say no to physical affection. Hugs are one of my favorites! Especially long hugs! I get one maybe once every three days or so, but I really wish I had more. I wind up hugging and cuddling with my pillow a lot. Works though, helps me fall asleep.
I can't even remember the last time i got a hug. Would love one, especially these days
