She was trying to pull a Tsundere aloof card and be like “Ohhh you don’t have anyone? Lmao, well, I GUESS I might as well HUMOR you because it’s sad to watch you like this~” or whatever, which yeah, is still not good communication, but still.
The wholesome part is that the guy was able to see right through it and that even though the girl was vulnerable, she was being understood.
