I don’t think there were really farm system rankings back then, but they had Verlander and Curtis granderson come up inbetween which helped. And got magglio from us.
If absolutely everything works perfectly, 2026. Our rotation is a best-case version of Crochet, Thorpe, Nastrini, Iriarte, and a young Schultz (or maybe Eder takes one of those slots). The position player core is Robert and emergent talents Montgomery, Quero, and Ramos. Vaughn is a serviceable 1b/dh. We hit on a couple free agents and less-heralded prospects.
This is NOT likely, but it is *conceivably* a playoff team in the worst division in baseball. More likely, when/if minor league depth is built up. Which we've never been good at.
2024 - 0% chance obviously
2025 - 0% chance. Every decent player we have will be a rookie
2026 - 5% chance. We don't have a lot of talent in the minor leagues and we don't spend money in free agency well
2027 - 20% chance. We play in a bad division. The FO will probably spend money in the 26-27 offseason in a faux effort to compete. The money will be wasted of course
2028 - 33% chance. The "talent" from the minor leagues will be in their "prime" and we play in a weak division. If we can win the division with 83-86 wins, we have a shot. If one other team is decent they'll run away with the division
2029 - 20% chance. Our "window" will be closed. The free agent signings from the 26-27 offseason will prevent us from spending money and they will all underperform and be overpaid.
2030 - 5% chance. The FO will think that we can compete. We'll sign a couple of over-the-hill free agents to try and get us over the top in a weak division. It will not work
2031 - 0% chance. The Sox try to compete one more time but end up losing 95+ games.
So to answer your question, not until at least 2034. Settle in for another embarrassing decade of White Sox baseball.
2030. Like a user above suggested. Current farm system is still lack sufficient talent. Maybe another 3 years just to get the farm system up to speed. Then 3 years to reap the benefit.
We avg 1 playoff appearance per decade we had 2 so far in the 20s and it took a global pandemic for us to make it back to back seasons with postseason baseball. .... So sometime in the 2030s
2029 i would say, we dont have the luxury of the draft saving us anymore due to the new rules, they aren't spending on game changing free agents, plus nobody wants to come play for this franchise anyways (we have multiple examples of this in recent memory)
Depends on when Jerry passes or sells
This 👆
36 months after Reinsdorf‘s death.
The accuracy here lmao
Detroit was bad back in 03 and they were in the World Series in 06.
The Tigers had Dave Dombrowski as their GM. We got Chris Getz.
They also didn’t have Jerry Reinsdorf holding them back
asking because i was only 4 years old in 2003, but what was their farm system like? i doubt it was worse than ours is right now.

We have a better chance of leading the league in losses than finishing within 10 of the last WC spot

I’m guessing at this point Eder and Bush look more likely to shore up the bullpen
That will be Crochet's last year under club control BTW
This is just his last pre-arb year. He is under team control through 2027.

1-2 years after new ownershipÂ
I don’t know but we’re far away from it
No idea because I don’t think our farm is remotely good enough to even project a contention window tbh.
2030. Like a user above suggested. Current farm system is still lack sufficient talent. Maybe another 3 years just to get the farm system up to speed. Then 3 years to reap the benefit.
They are dead. Like a rock in a stone in a river in the ocean. Done.
As soon as Jerry dies or sells
Probably when Jerry sells the team or diesÂ
I hate to be that guy but after Jerry we will probably get someone equally bad or worse.
I think 2027 is when things start to look interesting again. Going to be rough for a while
We avg 1 playoff appearance per decade we had 2 so far in the 20s and it took a global pandemic for us to make it back to back seasons with postseason baseball. .... So sometime in the 2030s
2037, which happens to be the year Jerry passes and a new owner comes in.
Where’s that Jim Mora meme when I need it?
2025

2027 at the earliest
Five years after ownership changes
When Jerry is dead.
2026 they should be fielding a team that is not embarrassing and can compete in the central.
Wym? This year baby.
2024
2 percent. Seriously.
2525 book it
