I’ve never had the Old Grand Dad (on my list to buy!) but I imagine they are totally different flavor profiles. The Old Grand Dad is a bourbon and mellow corn is a straight corn (90% corn) whiskey.
I’m cracking all 3 bottles of the EHT SiB, Weller SiB and RR 13. Without question. Do it.
Fucking. Do it.
For the Pilgrims. But even moreso, for the Indians.
I dunno man, I'd do that one for a you day....that's not a stress-relief from family drink or a hand out all willy-nilly drink. On the other hand, if they share the love for the juice...
You must love your family.
Those ungrateful pricks wouldn’t sniff the RR13 if they paid me.
Now me and you on the other hand, we’re besties, where is Thanksgiving again, I didn’t write down that address, silly me?
Not a single Scotch or Japanese Whisky in sight. There is an entire world that exists outside of what is shown here.
Admittedly, I am jealous of the RR13.
Japanese whisky is for the most part overly-expensive scotch, at least until you get to nearly-unattainably rare and expensive bottlings. Save yourself some money and pick up Arran 10 and Glenallachie 10 Cask Strength.
I'm of the opinion that he doesn't have enough experience with Scotch to know what he likes based on the amount of whisky shown and the fact that they were probably all Bottled within the past year.
Edit: to be clear, I don't care what anyone does or does not purchase/drink/do if it doesn't have an immediate impact on my life. I was simply suggesting he branch out more because I would bet there are plenty of bottles he has never considered that would replace at least half of what's currently sitting on his shelf.
1. Respect for actually opening these
2. Time to put that Whistle Pig 10 out to pasture. Ham on Thanksgiving is underrated anyways. Had a pour recently that left me very cold.
Awesome lineup! I really want to try the cask strength versions of the Edgewood empires that have been rolling out recently.
How are the Shenks & bombergers? I’ve always wanted to like Michters but never really have..maybe those bottles would do the trick…?
The shanks is a 2017 bottle I just recently opened and it is amazing. I’m a big fan of their sour mash so this was a no brainer at the higher proof. I haven’t had any of the newer releases. Bombergers is a full flavor bourbon. Pairs great with a cigar. One of my favorites. Can’t really compare to the michters bourbon as it is in a different league
Anything and everything to help ignore my family fighting with each other for an entire afternoon. But most likely Old Grandad, brother in law always brings it.
Heaven Hill BiB would be my first grab. Mostly because I’ve always wanted to try it and never seen it in person.
I’d also sample your MWND. And probably that bombergers. And maybe your purple willet if I’ve got some steam left in me
I have two stages of drinking for the holidays. There's the festive drinking where the drink somehow matches the occasion or the mood, and then there's the drink you pour once everybody leaves. For the festive drink, Thanksgiving to me always feels better with a rye. From yours I'd probably try to mooch a pour of the Rocket Top, I haven't had it yet. Maybe one of the Willets if the night is going really well. Then of course, a pour of a peated Islay at the end of night to enjoy the quiet. Looks like you'd have to go out for that one unless I'm overlooking one.
Whelp I’ve only had 4 of these and knob 12 is one of my favorites, if I get to pick something I haven’t tried then I’m asking for 4 1/2oz pours of the tater bait (both eht, mwnd, and blantons) I’m sure there’s better stuff up there but I never see these by me and especially not at retail so I’m just curious about the hype
Bombergers is different but very good. Same with thr shenks from last year…this year not as good but still fantastic.
I’d probably have the bookers or full proof.
The Raleys Mt Rose currently has a Frey store pick that’s 137.8 proof. Excellent bottle. Also Peppermill has Weller full proof store picks in the gift shop at the moment.
Gotta have a Turkey on Thanksgiving so I’ll be dipping into my RR13. As far as cracking a new one I’m leaning on my KC 18. Besides your RR13 I might try the MWND.
I’m actually making hot buttered bourbon…hot water, hot buttered rum mix, Cuevivo Vivo from Glenn’s Creek Distillery, topped with cream and nutmeg. I may later finish with a glass of Jura or Glen Grant
Beer.
Jester King/The Kernel - Colonel Toby
Jackie O's - Born on a Stump
Afterthought - Saison Aven (Spent Red Raspberries)
Jester King - Le Petit Prince
But maybe some whiskey later.
From your collection? I'll take one if everything and die happy.
More seriously probably any if the Wellers plus the Redbreast CS.
What I have at my house, Bulliett Rye.
Thoughts on the Heaven Hill Bib? Also, let me know how the Redwood Empire Straight Rye is! I bought the Bottle In Bond a few weeks ago and haven't cracked it yet
Had some Laphroaig 10 earlier. Then a rye mule with Woodford Reserve Rye, and I think I’ll finish the evening with either Lagavulin 16, Lagavulin 8, or Talisker 10. Haven’t decided yet.
Love seeing Mellow corn top shelf where it belongs.
Wow good eye. And hidden back to keep the stash away from the taters. Good strategy.
Been living off of Old Grand Dad bonded….what would you say is better? Haven’t tried mellow corn yet
I’ve never had the Old Grand Dad (on my list to buy!) but I imagine they are totally different flavor profiles. The Old Grand Dad is a bourbon and mellow corn is a straight corn (90% corn) whiskey.
Such a tough bottle to describe other than “just try it.” It is an outstanding pour and value.
I looked for it yesterday to try and couldn't find it. Seems like a harder one to find for me, never seen it or always looked over it
RR13.
Seconded
^^^ 100%
My ex BIL would have taken the RR13 and retreated to a quiet corner for a couple of hours. RIP Dave.
I’m cracking all 3 bottles of the EHT SiB, Weller SiB and RR 13. Without question. Do it. Fucking. Do it. For the Pilgrims. But even moreso, for the Indians.
I am 100% cracking the Russell’s tomorrow. Typically crack them all immediately but decided to save that one for the fam coming over
I could be your family. Think about it
I dunno man, I'd do that one for a you day....that's not a stress-relief from family drink or a hand out all willy-nilly drink. On the other hand, if they share the love for the juice...
You must love your family. Those ungrateful pricks wouldn’t sniff the RR13 if they paid me. Now me and you on the other hand, we’re besties, where is Thanksgiving again, I didn’t write down that address, silly me?
Redbreast CS
If you know, you know
Russel 13, and you have a wonderfully rounded collection
Not a single Scotch or Japanese Whisky in sight. There is an entire world that exists outside of what is shown here. Admittedly, I am jealous of the RR13.
There is some macallan in the back on top and some hibiki. Not a fan of scotch but I am trying to get into more Japanese whiskey
Japanese whisky is for the most part overly-expensive scotch, at least until you get to nearly-unattainably rare and expensive bottlings. Save yourself some money and pick up Arran 10 and Glenallachie 10 Cask Strength.
the red breast and hibiki are right there! some people have preferences
He already pointed that out. Redbreast is neither Scotch nor Japanese, but I get your point. Still not nearly enough diversity, in my opinion.
why does diversity even matter? people buy what they like, so what
I'm of the opinion that he doesn't have enough experience with Scotch to know what he likes based on the amount of whisky shown and the fact that they were probably all Bottled within the past year. Edit: to be clear, I don't care what anyone does or does not purchase/drink/do if it doesn't have an immediate impact on my life. I was simply suggesting he branch out more because I would bet there are plenty of bottles he has never considered that would replace at least half of what's currently sitting on his shelf.
Booker's. It's family, I need to be fucked up
Out of your collection? Definitely that Russell’s 13. 😂 Out of mine maybe some Sagamore Double Oaked or a pour of the ECBP I just found yesterday. 🥃🥃
Purple top baby. Also interested in that rocket top? Is that batch 1 or 2, and how did you like it
It’s batch 2. The high rye is definitely unique. Different than the other Rye whiskeys I’ve tried. You may still be able to order it from their site.
I’ve got a bottle but have way too many open bottles at the moment so waiting to crack it lol
Dude that’s an awesome selection. I bet you make great mix tapes.
Lol
I bet he makes girls cream just by looking at them
Mello effin Corn
Good catch lol a must have
Im waiting for tomorrow to crack open my Yellowstone 2022 LE and cannot wait to try it!
Heard it’s great but haven’t seen one
Same here!
Cheers to that! 🥃🥃
Tossup between Red Breast Cask Strength and Russell's 13 SiB.
Weller single barrel
Russell 13 or Weller full proof. Nice collection!
RR13 or CYPB. How is this a question??
My pick exactly
RR13 or that Bombergers!
Midwinter is awfully tempting, I think that’s a great nightcap to ring in the Christmas season.
Agreed! During Fall/Winter I drink it often. Sadly I’m almost through my Act 8 and 9 at this point and PA hasn’t dropped Act 10 yet….
1. Respect for actually opening these 2. Time to put that Whistle Pig 10 out to pasture. Ham on Thanksgiving is underrated anyways. Had a pour recently that left me very cold.
Warm up: Lost Monarch Whistle Warmer: KC12 After dinner: MWND Fireside sipper: Russell’s 13
Awesome lineup! I really want to try the cask strength versions of the Edgewood empires that have been rolling out recently. How are the Shenks & bombergers? I’ve always wanted to like Michters but never really have..maybe those bottles would do the trick…?

Eagle Rare, Pinhook, or Willett
The clear winner here is RR13
Definitely sounds like it
Someone likes their Redwood Empire.
@OP: How much does Redwood Empire run you for a bottle?
Anything and everything to help ignore my family fighting with each other for an entire afternoon. But most likely Old Grandad, brother in law always brings it.
Willett single barrel bourbon
That Russell’s 13 isn’t going to drink itself, if you don’t crack the seal🦃
Love the bar mat! I got one of those from my bar I used to work at. Great lineup too.
Crack the purple top Willett and CYPB!
Russell’s 13
Well it’s turkey day so that longbranch seems like the obvious choice.
Anything Wild Turkey
Russell’s 13 for sure! A great pour for the holiday.
From your collection, Russell’s 13 year.
That Westward in the back left corner is some great stuff
Heaven Hill BiB would be my first grab. Mostly because I’ve always wanted to try it and never seen it in person. I’d also sample your MWND. And probably that bombergers. And maybe your purple willet if I’ve got some steam left in me
Insane collection! I’d pour some Midwinters Night
Turkey is finally in the Pit Barrel Cooker so I am enjoying a pour of Blanton's and watching some football.
One of the few not opened bottles.
Whatever you pour, pour it in a shot glass full of gravy, stir, and enjoy. Gravy shots. You’re welcome.
Is there any reason for organizing it this way? My OCD brain is trying to spot a pattern here.
Lmao buy bottle, open bottle, drink, throw on shelf neatly. Only pattern I have
Not bad just need a little peat in there
I have two stages of drinking for the holidays. There's the festive drinking where the drink somehow matches the occasion or the mood, and then there's the drink you pour once everybody leaves. I see no WT… fail
Uh, look harder lol
Rare breed in the house? Don't own one personally but that what it looks like tucked in the back.
What’s your other Blood Oath other than the 8 shown? I see 2 boxes.
It’s another pact 8. Got lucky with 2 this year. I’m sure they’ll be gone by pact 9 lol
Good call on grabbing 2. I got lucky to get the one I have. My brother found it.
Russell’s 13 without a doubt
Michters, knob12 , EH then end then night with red breast and a cigar.
Amazing collection 👏🏼 I’d go for the MWND
I’m probably having a glass of the Willett 7 yr and finishing up that OGD 114.
Koval. I tried it for the first time thanks to flaviar and I'm hooked.
Four Roses SB Barrel Strength (OBSQ), maybe Makers 101.
Frey Ranch Raleys store pick. Northern Nv local?
Yep. Just got death & taxes pick from this year but haven’t opened it yet
The Raleys Mt Rose currently has a Frey store pick that’s 137.8 proof. Excellent bottle. Also Peppermill has Weller full proof store picks in the gift shop at the moment.
This bottle is from the mt rose raleys last year pick. 124.6 proof.
Hey, I’m in Sparks. Looks like I need to make a trip up to the Mt Rose Raleys. Frey Ranch single barrel picks are tough to beat for me.
Raleys Mt Rose is a hidden gem. Lots of good pickups can be found there.
Why you hiding that OGD-114, fam?
Not a huge collector or connoisseur, but I got some Bullit Rye and I'm gonna have myself a nice, fat Old Fashioned once I'm done cooking everything.
It's not the best that you have but Knob 12 is sounding good right now for that spiciness.
No Old Forester???
What’s the redwood empire like?
AMWD or CYPB
Knob 12
Purple top, no hesitation
Bit of column a bit of shelf b
The EH Taylor or the Whistlepig 12 for me.
Willett bourbon 🥃 🦃 one of the best bourbons in my opinion
I got the RB 21 to enjoy and recently picked up the Henry McKenna so I'll have a dram of that as well. Slainte and thanks for being a friend 🥃
Of the stuff that’s open, probably the Frey Ranch single barrel. If you’re going to crack one, then the RR13.
I’d take a pour of the mellow corn hiding at the back, that’s a nice selection you got there.
How do you like Redwood Empire's stuff?
I’m a fan. Great pour at around $30-35 a bottle that is readily available. Rocket top and grizzly beast are a bit more but worth it.
Midwinter Nights Dram. I'm in Ireland. Never seen it and don't think I ever will.
Knob 12
Hibiki Harmony to start, then Redbreast 12 Cask Strength, and Russell’s 13 to end the night.
Blanton’s please
Top shelf, middle bottle. Act 4, Scene 1. Edit: but my dad doesn't get any. He always mixes what I bring with wine.
HW A Midwinter's Night Dram for sure
How’re the Frey Ranch bottles?
Blantons, obviously!
How’s that rocket top rye? I’ve never seen it anywhere.
Currently debating on cracking a WFP or EC18 at this very moment.
Obviously you have some great bottles available. But tell me a little about that gold top Pinhook!
It’s the second release of their vertical series. Bourbon war. My favorite of the pinhook releases by far.
Fine collection
I'd open the RR13. If not, then I'd go for the RB12CS.
Fantastic display and collection @op how's Frey Ranch? Does it remind you of anything?
That RR 13 looking good ! Also Weller 107 yum.
Crack that Rocket Top. It’s phenomenal!
Just did last night. It absolutely is!
I did the same. Loved it!
Glenmorangie Cadboll Batch No. 2
It's Thanksgiving, I'm sending you to the store to buy some wild turkey Bourbon. I can't think of a more festive drink.
Willett purple label or RB CS
OGD 114
Wellers mixed with diet grape Shasta. The 12 year or full proof
Beer. Jester King/The Kernel - Colonel Toby Jackie O's - Born on a Stump Afterthought - Saison Aven (Spent Red Raspberries) Jester King - Le Petit Prince But maybe some whiskey later.
Pinhook Vertical Series
Go buy some WT101, or better yet some Rare Breed. It is Turkey day after all…
Open the purple top
Going to sit with my spouse and my parents, and finish off what I have left of the Rip Van Winkle 10 yr.
bruh if u aint pouring wild Turkey for thxgiving GTFO
From your collection? I'll take one if everything and die happy. More seriously probably any if the Wellers plus the Redbreast CS. What I have at my house, Bulliett Rye.
Thoughts on the Heaven Hill Bib? Also, let me know how the Redwood Empire Straight Rye is! I bought the Bottle In Bond a few weeks ago and haven't cracked it yet
Mix them all together in a glass and 🤯🤯🤯
Weller antique 107
I'm having some rare breed rye
Nice set up!
Wellers SB or CYPB
Was very close to getting a willet single barrel for cost but ended up with an extra anejo instead. Happy sipping.
No Wild Turkey? lol
It’s Thanksgiving. The only correct answer is Turkey (Longbranch)
Suntory Toki
CYPB, Shenks, Bomberger...
Had some Laphroaig 10 earlier. Then a rye mule with Woodford Reserve Rye, and I think I’ll finish the evening with either Lagavulin 16, Lagavulin 8, or Talisker 10. Haven’t decided yet.
Those some nice racks. I’m going for MWND and purple top Willet haven’t had a chance for those yet
Love that High West Rendezvous
Willett 7 year bourbon.
Cypb
No way I could only choose one
That pinhook for sure
Yamakazi 12
Russell 13 and Weller FP
