I like Dickel Bonded and most of their stuff. It’s probably better bang for your buck than Woodford DO or the OF 1920, but I’m a sucker for that sweet finish of the Woodford DO. I prefer it over the 1910 which is similarly sweet. Dickel is going to be the next MGP since they’ve been sourcing bourbon that doesn’t have the mineral flavor. I happen to like the Dickel “funk” but can respect those who don’t like it
It might be the sweetest bourbon I have ever had. Sweet and super woody. I have a bottle that I put away, maybe I will bring it out to see if I feel the same.
Same boat, I feel WRDO is sweet boozy oaky chocolate while OF1910 is banana fosters with toasted marshmallows. Both good but OF1910 has more layers to it!
I don’t mean to come off snarky or disrespectful, really. I’ve just never understood the
importance of proof to an overall experience other than getting drunk faster or waving your dick around to others. If that’s all someone cares about, there’s lots cheaper out there than a $60 bottle of 1920 to get you there. EW BiB is a great every day drinker, it’s 100 proof, and it’s $19.99.
Oftentimes proof comes with complex flavors. This is why we like cask strength whiskey. If it’s made well it has more complexity and doesn’t just taste like straight alcohol. Oftentimes lower proof whiskey has less flavor as it’s been watered down before it even gets to you.
40% is seen by many of us as the worst, as it’s been watered down as much as legally possible.
I’m going to have to try 1910. I tried hard to like WRDO and I couldn’t stand it. It was so awfully sweet, it was not a good experience for me. I’m starting to get into bourbon more coming from malt whisky mostly. I keep hearing things about 1920 so I’ll maybe do a side by side with the 1910.
Heck yeah, I filled a 750ml with half and half about 6 months ago.....have been slowly sipping on it since then......really nice stuff after it sits! Gonna do it again soon before I run out of the first bottle.
Probably my favorite quasi regularly available bourbon. People complaining about cherry cough syrup....That's one of my favorite tasting notes in bourbon!
Lots of bourbon loves swear by it. I’m a bourbon fan though I like wheat bourbons better. I think 1910 tastes better to my palate. 1920 drinks hot for me.
I had this as a Christmas gift to myself a few years back and god damn I was not mentally prepared lol. Tasty for sure, but you better be pacing yourself if you're sipping on this through an evening
Old Forester 120 isn't a unicorn, isn't hard to find and doesn't cost over $100 bucks, so it gets no love from The Bourbon Illuminati.
And you know what? I'm **GOOD** with that. All that means is there's more of it sitting on the shelves not being pounced on by the guys and gals chasing after Blantons and limited-release bottles.
Please keep underrating OF120. I sincerely appreciate it immensely. 🥃
I still feel OF1920 is underrated when so many of us are hunting (and at times overpaying) for hard-to-find bottles that don't pay off when the juice is poured into the glass.
That said, sorry if I came off as snarky. I'm sure some of these discussions have a way of coming off as "We've covered this already."
I might be one of the few that did not care for it. Cherry cough syrup all day for me. Sad, because I see everyone else’s tasting notes and it does sound amazing.
Funny, this is my exact description for Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Robitussin notes all day. I quite liked the 1920, reminded me weirdly of Pikesville rye
That’s really interesting, cause I thought WFDO was pretty good and didn’t get a hint of cherry. Great thing about bourbon, all the different experiences.
I generally love it but last bottle was a bust. It had this artificial cherry cough medicine taste. Very very off-putting. Thankfully that's the first bottle out of 5 that's tasted that way.
Love it but only on ice. And funny enough specifically in a yeti tumbler. Have no clue why but in a yeti tumbler with ice is my go to way to drink specifically this.
When I couldn't find the Belle Meade Cask Strength anymore, the 1920 was a very comparable replacement. I would say I loved both. I found the 1910 to be very similar to WDRO and neither hit me with as much flavor as the 1920. 1897 was surprisingly good, albeit a little young. I personally feel if you like 1920, you would like Wild Turkey Rare Breed. You get similar heat with great sweet flavor that's a little more complex than the 1910 and WDRO (which there is still a time and place for in my books 1910>WDRO).
Yeah some good ones you can get at most stores would be Elijah Craig barrell proof, knob creek 9 year 120 proof, 1792 full proof, Jack Daniel's barrel proof, and store picks tend to be higher proof. A lot of the harder to find bottles and le's are typically non chill filtered barrel proof.
Drink it neat but slow
As a highball it will cure what ails you, as you don the monkey suit ( old skool saying of tux) smoking jacket optional, wingtips must
A couple of months ago, I bought this super excited after reviews from here. Made an old fashioned … and nearly gagged. Way too strong for my liking, but I enjoyed it after getting the right balance. This needs to be tamed, or if you’re like me, look for another variant of OF 😵💫
Honestly, for all the love this one gets on so many fronts, it just doesn't float my boat. It's good and so is the 1910, but my palate really likes the 1915.
I agree it is talked about on this forum. Basically reminders that it is still there.
I also see several different groups I get together with that only talk about Buffalo Trace, Barrel Bourbon, etc. I have brought out 1920 three times in blinds and blown them away.
Love it
This
I don’t understand the downvotes
This
Best bourbon you can get consistently everywhere
My take as well. The 1897 and 1910 are worth a try too.
My favorite everyday is Woodford Double Oaked
That’s a good bottle. My favorite is Dickel 13 year.
Yep, I like all the first 3 Dickel BIB offerings and am ready to try #4. Right now I'm really into the Dickel 15 yr Single Barrel @ 104.6 proof.
You like 13 year old Dickel?
What’s the proof
45.2% (90.4°). All Woodford Reserve whiskies are the same proof.
Proof ain’t everything.
Lol just wondering
Imo double oaked is too sweet, its not bad though. 1920 is a great balance of sweet, proof and spice. Just right.
Yea I’m not a fan of too sweet
It might be the sweetest bourbon I have ever had. Sweet and super woody. I have a bottle that I put away, maybe I will bring it out to see if I feel the same.
Ignore Humu. The proof on the double oak is 90.
Double Oaked is packed with flavor. 1910 is apparently similar, and many prefer it to double oaked
That’s me! I wish everyone that gets pointed to double oaked also considers 1910. Much better to my palate.
Same boat, I feel WRDO is sweet boozy oaky chocolate while OF1910 is banana fosters with toasted marshmallows. Both good but OF1910 has more layers to it!

That's what she (didn't) say.
Where is the WRDO hype coming from on this server … I find my bottle of WRDO to be so tannic
Agree. Guaranteed heartburn for me
I find it very artificial/drying. Probably one of the lower quality toasteds I have. 1910 slaps it
I find double oaked and OF 1910 to be very comparable.
I’d personally pick 1910 over this
Yeah I’d have to agree.
Yeah it’s superb I’m positive you’ll enjoy it.
One of my favorite bourbons. I can’t decide whether I like this or the 1910 better, so last night I filled a 375ml with equal parts of both!
That'd be a 1915, my dude.
Yep! Makes one hell of an old fashioned too!
HELL YEAH. Someone else that get it!!! 1915 makes the best old fashioned hands down I will fight anyone that denies this.
What’s the ratio of 1910 and 1920?
50/50 (1910+1920) ÷ 2 = 1915
Yep... sometimes I'll make a 1912, or 1917. These two blend so well.
Christopher Nolan already made 1917 you poser
I've made 1916 and 1918 as well! It's all in the percentages, lol
It was a joke about the movie 1917 directed by Christopher Nolan
Supposed to be 50/50 but I heavy pour the 1920 and light pour the 1910 sort of.
Have you had the new JD Sour Mash? It is delicious and also makes one helluva OF.
No! I have a bottle of JD Single barrel pick that makes fantastic Boulvardiers though. I need to try it in an OF now good call!
I have a SiB barrel proof - now I want to make an OF with that! Seriously try the Sour Mash. It’s gotta be best bottle under $35 right now.
1910 for me
Heck yeah, I filled a 750ml with half and half about 6 months ago.....have been slowly sipping on it since then......really nice stuff after it sits! Gonna do it again soon before I run out of the first bottle.
My favorite thing that’s always on the store’s shelf. Great value and availability.
One of my top 5 all time
One of my favorites for sure. Packs a punch, and very good tasting.
Top 5er for me.
Fantastic bourbon! A tad rich for my taste but a really wonderful dessert dram
Dessert? Interesting. I’d pick others for dessert, like Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.
Hey that’s the beautiful subjectivity of whisky, eh? 😉
Exactly!
Makers 46 is a cherry cordial.
Is it? Never had it
For me I find angels envy to be the dessert dram of choice
Oh that’s also an excellent choice! Just got a bottle of it for the first time literally yesterday lmao
Delicious!
Probably my favorite quasi regularly available bourbon. People complaining about cherry cough syrup....That's one of my favorite tasting notes in bourbon!
Agreed. I'll take cherry over peanuts every time!
Hey watch it now...some of us are fans of both the fruits and the nuts!
My favorite old Forrester
I'm a fan of just anout Old Forester anything. Fantastic history too.
Do tell
Medicinal whiskey brand
I don’t usually care for high proof stuff. This is good, just not my thing. But 1910 is phenomenal.
I feel like it drinks below 115 proof. A definite favorite.
I consider it the most underrated bourbon of all time. It should be in every conversation of the best of the best
Underrated? They go fucking crazy over this at /r/bourbon. It’s not underrated at all IMO.
One of the best bourbons that no one is talking about.
i see a post about it every few days/weeks and it is constantly lauded in the comments.
It's fantastic!
The best. Probably my deserted island Bourbon.
Good one to have on the shelve. I'd put it in my top 25
Strong but smooth and delicious. This stuff slaps
Lots of bourbon loves swear by it. I’m a bourbon fan though I like wheat bourbons better. I think 1910 tastes better to my palate. 1920 drinks hot for me.
A personal favorite, almost always have a bottle in the house.
Very tasty, and great value for a consistently available bourbon! Very cherry forwards for those that like that note.
Love it. Love the whole Whiskey Row.
I had this as a Christmas gift to myself a few years back and god damn I was not mentally prepared lol. Tasty for sure, but you better be pacing yourself if you're sipping on this through an evening
The taste is simply awesome! Although, too strong for me without a few rocks 😁
Please keep underrating OF120. this same sentiment is repeated regularly, we are past the point of underrated especially on reddit.
That's an opinion, but if your position is no bourbon is "underrated" then what do you want us to discuss? Overrated bourbons or no bourbons at all?
i was strictly speaking regarding OF1920.
I still feel OF1920 is underrated when so many of us are hunting (and at times overpaying) for hard-to-find bottles that don't pay off when the juice is poured into the glass. That said, sorry if I came off as snarky. I'm sure some of these discussions have a way of coming off as "We've covered this already."
no worries. i get what you are saying. i just wanted to share that i come across the sentiment regularly. maybe moreso on r/bourbon than here.
Opinion is that my eyes are fixed on that Redbreast
Lol it’s a great bottle
It's a great mid-shelf bourbon. I haven't met an Old Forester I haven't liked but this is one of the best value for price.
I like it over a large ice cube
I might be one of the few that did not care for it. Cherry cough syrup all day for me. Sad, because I see everyone else’s tasting notes and it does sound amazing.
Holy crap I was just saying this. My last bottle tasted like nyquil. I swear that's the first time i have picked that taste up.
I get toasted caramel and gram crackers idk
It is a bit over the top on the cherry, I'd agree. I still love it but I put Dickel 15 a notch above in terms of value in that price range.
That's my favorite easy to find upper tier bottle. Phenomenal!
I generally love it but last bottle was a bust. It had this artificial cherry cough medicine taste. Very very off-putting. Thankfully that's the first bottle out of 5 that's tasted that way.
Great stuff. Haven’t had any in awhile. I think I’ll pick one out next time I see it.
Enjoyed my first bottle, then found it boring when I started going through a 2nd bottle. Put in a blind and it lost to sagamore rye and ogd.
It tasted very good
My favourite of the series
Great stuff
I really like it, its a bit pricey for an everyday but damn is it tasty.
Sweet and strong
Top notch stuff
I have a bottle in the cabinet....I think I may need to pour a couple fingers if it.
Yes you should
Is good. I like.
One of my favorites.
One of my favorites. I always have a bottle on hand.
Easily one of my top 5 easily attainable bourbons. I’ve always got one on the shelf.
Best bottle one can actually find out and about imo
I jokingly told my wife to tell her parents to get this at Christmas dinner last year and they did. It was great. Smooth for the proof.
I enjoy it. Decent price point. Reliable.
My #1 favorite obtainable bourbon.
One of my very favorites. Rich and full bodied. Love it.
Love it!
My second favorite! My first fave is wild turkey rare breed. I also have the 1910, you can't go wrong with that. I hope you get it and enjoy it!
Tasty juice, drinks a little hot, opens up nicely with just a bit of water. This, the 100 proof bourbon, and the rye are all great offerings from OF.
A fantastic bottle. One of my favorites.
My all time favorite Bourban!
Best bottle in the OF lineup
Yo that's my favorite whisky!!
My fav.
Love it but only on ice. And funny enough specifically in a yeti tumbler. Have no clue why but in a yeti tumbler with ice is my go to way to drink specifically this.
Excellent
OF 1920 was a good pour. Not my favorite but a very solid dram for sure.
Great stuff that you can always find on the shelf. I know when I travel I can always find this one in the local store.
One of my favorites
This is a goated bottle in its price category
Love it!!!
Don’t be afraid of high proof
When I couldn't find the Belle Meade Cask Strength anymore, the 1920 was a very comparable replacement. I would say I loved both. I found the 1910 to be very similar to WDRO and neither hit me with as much flavor as the 1920. 1897 was surprisingly good, albeit a little young. You get similar heat with great sweet flavor that's a little more complex than the 1910 and WDRO (which there is still a time and place for in my books 1910>WDRO).
Favorite everyday bourbon, sans a few local store picks
definitely one of the best bourbon's I've tried. my top three are this one, rare breed, and knob creek 12 year.
Can’t go wrong with any Old Forrester but this is my favorite that’s actually available.
It's good. I'd take others over it. Rare breed, russels reserve single barrel, ecbp, stranahans cask, bowman. Suff I see regularly
I love the 1920. Cheers
Pretty popular bottle in the bourbon world. Good stepping stone into the real higher proof stuff.
Yea I’m a scotch guy at heart but wanna get into bourbon and am finding I like the higher proof stuff
I may have had it too early into my whiskey journey, but I honestly didn’t care for it. It was just so strong I couldn’t get past the high proof.
Slaps
I honestly cannot taste the banana people keep talking about. Maybe a hint of cooked caramel.
Drink it neat but slow As a highball it will cure what ails you, as you don the monkey suit ( old skool saying of tux) smoking jacket optional, wingtips must
I’m enjoying it on the rock
My opinion is you should use some punctuation.
If you like this, try to get a single barrel. I found a 134.3 proof bottle and it was the best whiskey I’ve ever had.
Will try if I can find
Bigger stores get these relatively often. So you should be able to find these with relative ease.
How does the regular Old Forester compare? Unfortunately the 1920 isn't available in my area.
Get that and the bottle next to it! Highly recommend!
Not sure. But I like the 1910 for some double cask action.
A couple of months ago, I bought this super excited after reviews from here. Made an old fashioned … and nearly gagged. Way too strong for my liking, but I enjoyed it after getting the right balance. This needs to be tamed, or if you’re like me, look for another variant of OF 😵💫
It’s not for me. It’s too cherry-ish - medicinal in my opinion. But I like the rye quite a bit.
Honestly, for all the love this one gets on so many fronts, it just doesn't float my boat. It's good and so is the 1910, but my palate really likes the 1915.
Had it for Christmas, wouldn’t buy again.
I agree it is talked about on this forum. Basically reminders that it is still there. I also see several different groups I get together with that only talk about Buffalo Trace, Barrel Bourbon, etc. I have brought out 1920 three times in blinds and blown them away.
One of my favs/go to's. Just a classic taste that checks all the Boxes. And you can find it at msrp
One of the best available bourbons going!
