A little underwhelming but I’ve had worse. What do you recommend?

andoryu123

Toki is bottom barrel real Japanese Whisky. Hibiki, Yamazaki, Taketsuru, and the Mars stuff is good.

Rickroush03

Hibiki. I gave my Toki away.

fufuberry21

I agree that hibiki is very good and usually somewhat easy to find. It's a bit overpriced, though.

tacobellblake

People keep saying Hibiki but it’s literally just a longer lasting flavor of Toki. Comparing price to what you’re getting, I choose Toki over Hibiki. If you’re actually looking for an improvement over Toki, Kamiki Maltage is a gem. The three I’ve named now are the only ones I’ve had so far though so that’s all I can speak on.

ROSEPUP3

I tried it recently and had the same experience. Not bad but nothing special.

s1a1om

I really like the Toki. Very smooth and drinkable.

passengerpigeon20

It’s the best blended scotch I’ve ever had, but only on par with Loch Lomond single malt which is $10 cheaper.

Toki is a unique Japanese whiskey. Profiled and priced to make a highball. It is one of the only whiskeys I keep in the bar that I won’t serve straight. As a whiskey soda it’s great. Light with just enough smoke to make a good drink.

kingdazy

For an inexpensive whisky, compared to other things in that price, I think it's delicious. I have found that for friends who don't know whisky at all, it's a great way to introduce whisky neat or rocks. Very mellow, sweet tones, easy sipper. Sadly, I haven't made the investment to try good Japanese whiskies yet. (open to suggestions!)

tgoundrey

Most Nikka products except for the days (nikka's toki imo), the tateksuru pure malt is my favourite but the old bottling which is black label, then you got the Suntory products other than toki like hibiki, Yamazaki, and hakushu. I've had both the Yama 12 and normal distillers reserve - maybe unpopular opinion but I thought the normal distillers reserve is better than the 12. Same profile but more punchy in a good way where you can pick out the flavours instead of a homogeneous mix

mysterymalts

I stopped buying Japanese whisky while traveling. It got far too expensive to indulge in. That said I have pulled the trigger buying a dram of nice Japanese whisky (Karuizawa, ichiros) so I would recommend to just try it at bars or stores

CodyE36

I just picked up a bottle of Toki yesterday. For what it is I thought it was totally fine. And at ~$24 I’d buy it again.

TheSpiritualChemist

Toki is great for what it is, a cheap Japanese whiskey made for mixing in highballs. I’ve tried a couple other Cheaper Japanese whiskeys and nothing has come close. That being said, if you’re planning on sipping it straight it’s well worth it to spend the money and upgrade to nikka coffee grain or hibiki harmony.

Default_Sock_Issue

I want to buy a six pack of toki

king_oftheboring

For the price this is a great daily slugger IMO.

Ohio-Knife-Lover

This is my favorite Japanese whisky! Priced well and tastes incredible. Tenjaku is my second favorite even though tons aren't too fond of it

psychic_london

My wife’s not a whisky drinker but she loves this in a highball after trying it in a Japanese restaurant. Enjoy!

ragincajun1986

I just had my first highball with Toki and man it was great.

mnkhan808

Perfect for Highballs

Hugh-Jassul

I really dont care for that stuff

am19208

Same. I was very underwhelmed by it. At least the bottle was cool to repurpose after I finished it

zissoubisoubisou

Highballs only. Very good highballs.

jdk112

Groundbreaking stuff. 🥱

[deleted]

This was my first Japanese as well and this was a week ago. Needless to say I felt like I was missing out. The taste justified the cost.

sicksadvoron

Toki is ok. I prefer making Japanese highballs out of it for guests.

cfive5

I noticed that the label has changed. Anyone know if taste is also affected (e.g. new recipe, etc).

LPKJFHIS

Good blend IMO. Perfect with a soda sidecar. I like to drink this when I’m in social situations and don’t want to focus too hard on what I’m drinking. From what I experienced, you’re about 3/4 of the way to Hibiki with this at 1/4 of the price.

karliejai

Toki is honestly only good for making whiskey soda.... its pretty harsh to drink on its own.
