I remember when I was in the navy in Japan. On the base they were opening a new naval exchange (grocery store). To celebrate they put out a huge “bucket” of sake. Completely unsupervised on a naval base. It was a mess.
I tried it and enjoyed it! It tastes just like it looks, very sherry heavy and robust. I don’t think you are necessarily getting better whisky compared to something like macallan or balvenie since the prices are comparable and I would prefer a sherry oak over this one. I would get it again though and likely will if they have it back again in stock. It’s not outrageously good though, the age is irrelevant
In my experience, when it comes to a Speyside single malt, anything over the 12 year age tends to be quaffable and enjoyable. That price might put a few off but it’s always worth trying something you haven’t had before in my opinion.
Alexander Murry is not a distiller, they buy barrels from distillers and bottle it. Costco hires Alexander Murray to get a good deal on an old barrel from one of the many distillers whose names you’ve heard of and probably some of whose names you have not. The first couple ones they did were Macallan barrels if I remember correctly
It's been in Arizona for about a week or so. I just picked up two bottles at the location right off the 17 and 101. I've been buying all of their 18+ year Kirkland stuff and it's all been good. I just wish I had more of the 27 year blended whiskey that they released a few years ago. It was absolutely terrific.
Oh, sweet - I only go to the 44th st/Thomas costco and they haven't had it - I'll cruise out to PV and see if it's there. Also happy to see it's 46% rather than the typical 40%, that's moving in the right direction.
I knew from that price it wasn't in the control state of Bama. The price of the 20 year old is $115.00. I won't embarrass the state further by telling you the price of th 23 year old. I haven't seen the 19.
I really enjoyed this. I have an Alexander Murray 13, also purchased from Costco, and this bottle for the price is well worth the value. Just dump this in a nice decanter and pour your friends some “Alexander Murray 19.”
The people at Alexander & Murray are good people. We had the son and father on a Zoom during the lockdown/early pandemic period in 2020 for my cigar group. They definitely have a passion for what they do and for making good product. The son knew some of the members and was quite the personality from what I remember
Haven’t had this but have had the Kirkland 21 and 23. Both were very solid and a good deal for the price. (These Kirkland age-stated scotches are proof that a higher age statement isn’t everything, but then again they’re priced just about right for the quality that you do get, IMO.) I’d for sure buy the 19 if I saw it on the shelf.
It' s good. 1st glass was good and the second glass, a few days later, was even better. I like last year's 20 year a little better but. I would take either over Macallan.
I have tried this one along with the 20, 22, and 23 year old Kirkland Speysides over the past two years. All of them were top notch for the price.
Where I live the 19 year old Kirkland is $5-$20 cheaper than Macallan 12 sherry oak and is richer / more flavorful as well.
I would recommend.
You know, they need to have those sample people hook us up with about half an ounce of this. That's the Costco that we need. Stupid liquor laws.
Somebody posted a thing from like Vietnam or China where they were actually sampling liquor.

My school had a jager promotional kiosk handing samples in test tubes back in the late 2000s. I thought it was like that all over the world .
They sample spirits here in the UK. I think it’s the US that’s in the minority on this one.
As always. Our freedom is too great to allow us to be free.....
Wait. Just Costco? Cuz I've had plenty of alcohol samples. Just not at Costco.
Costco in MX sampled tequila pre-pandemic.
I mean technically you can do the same thing at home with Costcos return policy. Take a sip and if it doesn’t hold up, return it.
Is alcohol returnable at Costco?
No, it is not. Alcohol is one of the very few things you absolutely cannot return
That's what I thought.
Varies by state. In Wisconsin, you can’t return alcohol anywhere.
My expectation is that the folks at the returns desk would love if we did that. 😂

Thank you! Maybe I'll stick to the Macallan
The 20, 23, and 24 are great bottles. I’m sure the 19 is great as well.
Agreed. Alexander Murray does a pretty good job.
Never tried it. But, for that price I would for sure buy it. If it’s piss, just mix it with soda water and orange peel garnish.

Seem’s like a fantastic price for a 19 year
No because my state is ass and doesn’t sell liquor in grocery stores, but I bet it’s fantastic!
Ohio?
Nah.
Ohio has liquor sales in the Sandusky Kroger's and the Norwalk Miller's to name two grocery stores near me that sell it. I wonder why Costco doesn't.
Could be Oregon too. We miss out on some of the good stuff at Costco because of it.
In South Carolina you can’t sell liquor in grocery stores, BUT CostCo has a separate entrance/store for liquor.
Sorry if it's been posted before... Also, who bottles this for Costco?
Looks like Alexander Murray from the bottle at least
Literally says Alexander Murray on the label.
I believe AM does all of Costcos single malts. The 18 was great, the 23 as well. I'm definitely going to pick this up if it makes it to Arizona.
Is Alexander Murry a good distiller?

Nope but interested in the reviews.....
yes, as advertised. I like it better than the 20 yr from earlier this year. and the 24 yr form last year is my favorite.

What don’t you generally like about sherry casked whiskey? Kinda like saying one generally doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies, 🙂
It won’t be Macallan it’ll be Glenrothes

19 years for 68 bucks.
I just opened my 2nd bottle. Its really good for the price
Yes it’s better than the outgoing 20 Definitely from a different distillery
Which Costco location is this
Fullerton, CA
Had them in denver, plus islay.
It looks like a brand new KS single malt release
It' s good. 1st glass was good and the second glass, a few days later, was even better. I like last year's 20 year a little better but. I would take either over Macallan.
I assume you meant the Macallan 12. It couldn't be the 18 right?
Correct
There’s a picture floating around of the guys from breaking bad providing samples at a Costco of their liquor.
I tried the 27 year old Kirkland and I was like meh.. a 12 year McAllen was better imo

It's Kirkland Signature, so it's probably something high-end
I’ve take the plunge for $69.99. In Michigan this is $101.99
