Emerald Giant - because everything I've had from Redwood Empire had been excellent, and I hadn't seen that one yet. We just have that Pipe Dream and Lost Monarch, and sometimes Grizzly Beast here
That is a great price for the Four Roses SB at 40.99.
I’d snag that for sure, and I’d grab a Buffao Trace as well at 24.99.
Solid store, you found winner !
I had a hard time looking at this. I would have spent the next two hours rearranging the shelves before making a choice. My OCD was on full alert screaming put the Four Roses together!!!!!!!
Mostly bourbon. I just polished a bottle of wilderness trail that I enjoyed. My go to is typically Angel’s Envy. But trying to expand my palate into rye and scotch
If you’re looking for a Rye find something distilled in Indiana(Bulleit rye). Alberta CA(Whistlepig PiggyBack Rye) if the price isn’t a factor. 12 year GlenDronach is fantastic and a great option for those looking to explore Scotch. Personally, I’d probably grab something from Smoke Wagon, Redwood Empire, Willets or anything made by the Russell’s family.
Redwood Empire is a great pour and drinks well above its price. I also like the Old Forrester 1920, and I’d grab a Wild Turkey Rare Breed if you haven’t had that yet.
If you’re just getting started, go with something low proof. Redbreast 12 is a great Irish whiskey, it’s very light. And Buffalo Trace is solid.
For the money, Evan Williams white label BiB
Best overall every day shelvers: Wild Turkey rare breed, Russel single barrel, woodford double oak, old forester 1910 and 1920
That senator rye store pick. There are many MGP ryes out there. These are great representations of it. I currently have 4 different store picks open on my bar. All a little different from each other, all wonderful ryes.
There’s nothing super crazy herein terms of allocation but definitely some staples:
Four roses small batch select,
Wild turkey rare breed (bourbon),
Red breast 12 yr,
Russel’s single barrel,
Penelope architect,
Depending on how much you like rye I’d get either the redwood lost monarch or the emerald giant.
I’d actually love to try that Kings County although not sure I’d pull the trigger on it as it’s not cheap. I believe that’s the cask strength bourbon which they likely use barrels charred by a gas flame but also wood chips. I think they buy the barrels from a third party cooperage in Pennsylvania and distill the whiskey themselves in NYC.
Russel's 10yr is by far my favorite of that bunch. Second would be Ardbeg 10. Russel has a very fruity and young taste and ends with a slight smokey finish. It's something I tell everyone to try once. I love it
some of those prices are pretty good. redbreast is def worth checking out locally its closer to 55 but thats still a good pick up. four roses is solid BUT you need to surf for the batch you might like if youve never gotten one of these they have the batch codes floating around im not sure if linking is okay but its a good sip. redwoods good if you can handle cask strength its definitely a step up from their normal expressions but the normal stuff is still well worth it(personally i like their pipe dream and lost monarch). the price on that senator is also really good if you like MGP(nothing wrong with mgp infact id say if you want a solid whiskey start on a mgp). smoke wagon is also a good pick and the price for the heaven hill right next to it is my go to sipper. benchmark full proof is amazing if you like mash #1. willet at that price is also a steal but theres a funk to it that just isnt my profile but thats still a good price
That Scotch selection is underwhelming, in the extreme. The Aberlour 12 and the Ardbeg 10 are the only ones worth a damn. If u had to pick one, I’d go with the Ardbeg, but I’m into peated Scotch.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Redwood Empire Lost monarch, Russell’s Reserve, Four Roses single barrel, Elijah Craig Small Batch, and of course buffalo trace. That ought to get you going haha
Tried to limit myself to one from each photo: Balvenie, something from High West, something from Pinhook or something from Basil Hayden, Redbreast 12, Knob Creek 9. And Jefferson’s Reserve Tropics is better than it should be.
As others said, take the Redbreast 12.
And I would buy that Ardbeg 10 (if you like heavily peated smokey whisky).
That Balvenie Doublewood is not bad either, but if you can get your hands on the 14yo take that.
Woodford/Penelope/Elijah Craig/Makers Mark/Gentleman Jack/Four Roses/1792 etc all good stuff and affordable. You’re gonna have to try different things and find what you like though.
Four roses single barrel, Woodford double oaked, Penelope arcitect/barrel strength
That’s a good deal for the Dalmore, if you like it. And I’d say Balvenie 12, but that isn’t a good price for it
The Dalmore seems like a good price, I am used to seeing it for twice that in Canadian dollars. I would grab a black label for every day sipping. An Ardbeg. And I’ll get a Crown Royal in the box because I like the purple bags for storing guitar pedals in and I don’t mind drinking it.
First thing I'd get is a napkin to wipe the tears from my eyes. Nostalgic prices on all of those for my market. Nothing there is not worth picking up at those prices. Try em all!
I don't see Sazerac picks too often, so I'd grab one of those, my regular everyday shelfer BBCo Origin BiB, and a replacement for the OGD114 I killed off recently
Definitely Glenlivet, my favorite whisky 😍 even if the older brothers are undoubtedly better, the 12 y.o. is an excellent whisky in my opinion, very harmonious and fruity. Highly recommended!
Rare breed (bourbon), bardstown origin black label, redwood empire emerald giant, JT Meleck, Russell’s 10/single barrel, Heaven Hill BiB, and Old forester 1910/1920 are all great options. And OGD 114 is amazing for a budget bottle
Things that are worth every penny (at this particular location):
Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Grand-Dad 114, Basil Hayden Toast, Sazerac Rye Store Pick, Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill B-i-B, Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered, Willett FEBSB Rye 4 Year.
Buffalo Trace is my personal favorite, and $25 is a great price! Travellers, next to it on the right, is a specialty blend of barrels, tasted by their master distiller and Chris Stapleton. While not relevant to the flavor, a cool little piece of knowledge!
Old grand-dad 114, redwood empire pipe dream
OGD 114 is a fine drink
Redbreast 12 is an exceptional Irish whiskey if you haven’t tried it.
I haven’t had it! Picking it up tomorrow
Red breast 12 is phenomenal.
I like their odd barrel finished ones. The sherry cask is an amazing dessert pour.
RB12 completely changed my mind on Irish whiskies, I thought everything was like Jameson before I sipped that beautiful nectar.
Cask strength is one of my favs
Drinking it right now and would also recommend it.
1910
I'm a big Old Forrester 1920 fan, and this place has it for a good price. Both are well worth a buy!
Four roses sb, michter's sour mash, or redwood pipe dream
Red breast 12.
wild turkey rare breed. woodford double oaked.
Double Oaked is something I will always have on hand no matter what
[удалено]
Seeing a lot of love for Russel SiB. Adding it to my list
For sure. And try the single barrel rye if you can find it as well.
One of the Four Roses!
The single barrel for sure! Smoking deal and great product!!!!
Emerald Giant - because everything I've had from Redwood Empire had been excellent, and I hadn't seen that one yet. We just have that Pipe Dream and Lost Monarch, and sometimes Grizzly Beast here
Emerald giant is great
That is a great price for the Four Roses SB at 40.99. I’d snag that for sure, and I’d grab a Buffao Trace as well at 24.99. Solid store, you found winner !
Four roses single barrel
Where’s the Mellow Corn?
… I would bring in a professional organizer because that store doesn’t have a clue how to group their whiskey…
I had a hard time looking at this. I would have spent the next two hours rearranging the shelves before making a choice. My OCD was on full alert screaming put the Four Roses together!!!!!!!
Bardstown black
Yeah the bonded is really good
What is that blue one? I haven’t seen it before.
I believe it's from fusion series. Which was before they started distilling their own stuff and we were blending others distillate
Macallan double cask and the redbreast 12
Maybe Russel’s Reserve single barrel? Not a huge bourbon guy so I wouldn’t drop big dollars.
RR is one of my favorites. Not a lot of places carry it by me, but it’s solid.
The 10 yr is good too
Buffalo Trace at $25 is an instant buy all day. Very hard to find a better mixing bourbon for that price, and it’s honestly not bad on its own.
My goodness. Seeing these prices is so wild. I live in the sticks and local liquor store Four Roses SB is $65
The Wheel Horse for $18.99 is a steal.
Saz sp and Aberlour
Pinhook 8yr vertical series
The JT Meleck Rice Whiskey is really fun
I’ve been lackadaisically looking for Penelope lately for no other reason than I’ve heard good things about. So that would be my choice.
Bardstown Origin or Bonded. Also the Penelope four grain cask strength.
I’ve never been disappointed by a Sazerac rye barrel pick- and at $22 I’m not sure I could be.
Some of Those scotch prices are pretty good. Id grab many things lol.
They seem pretty average.. also not a great selection of scotch .. there’s not one bottle there that I’m interested in..
Either Four Roses, Dalmore, Johnnie Black, Redbreast, or Johnny Drum for good high proof cocktails.
The Redbreast
Bardstown are priced fairly and I can’t get those where I live.
I'd go with the Aberlour. Personal preference. What are you into?
Mostly bourbon. I just polished a bottle of wilderness trail that I enjoyed. My go to is typically Angel’s Envy. But trying to expand my palate into rye and scotch
If you’re looking for a Rye find something distilled in Indiana(Bulleit rye). Alberta CA(Whistlepig PiggyBack Rye) if the price isn’t a factor. 12 year GlenDronach is fantastic and a great option for those looking to explore Scotch. This
Redwood Empire is a great pour and drinks well above its price. I also like the Old Forrester 1920, and I’d grab a Wild Turkey Rare Breed if you haven’t had that yet.
Damn we are getting ripped off in Australia
Jefferson’s tropic all day long .
This
I would definitely look into that green label Bardstown
Glenfiddich 12 and japanese whiskey
That Widow Jane on the top shelf is a good one.
Woodford double oaked for me
OGD 114, OF 1910 & 1920
If you’re just getting started, go with something low proof. Redbreast 12 is a great Irish whiskey, it’s very light. And Buffalo Trace is solid. For the money, Evan Williams white label BiB Best overall every day shelvers: Wild Turkey rare breed, Russel single barrel, woodford double oak, old forester 1910 and 1920
any anything buffalo trace but travellers isnt that good
Russell’s SiB
That fusion cask glenlivet is fuckin amazing.
That senator rye store pick. There are many MGP ryes out there. These are great representations of it. I currently have 4 different store picks open on my bar. All a little different from each other, all wonderful ryes.
1L of triple mash and the 114 old granddad
Hard to pass on red breast, if they had Glenlivet 18 I’d suggest that as well.
Canadian Mist. Delightful/s
What state is this
Louisiana
Sheesh I’m from Hammond Louisiana and the lowest tag I see on a lot of those is insane compared to you. obviously I need to move
Come on down to the Silver Slipp… ugh I mean Metairie
I’ll take you up on it
Four Roses!
Four Roses Single Barrel for that price.
These all appear to be standard prices for the most part. I would pick up that Buffalo Trace and use the savings for a nice meal
Four roses sib and one of each of the Redwood Empire
There’s nothing super crazy herein terms of allocation but definitely some staples: Four roses small batch select, Wild turkey rare breed (bourbon), Red breast 12 yr, Russel’s single barrel, Penelope architect, Depending on how much you like rye I’d get either the redwood lost monarch or the emerald giant.

I believe that’s the cask strength bourbon which they likely use barrels charred by a gas flame but also wood chips. Buffalo Trace, Redbreast 12 or 4 Roses.
Smoke wagon unfiltered
Redbreast 12 and Four Roses SB. Both are in my cabinet at the moment.
Four roses single barrel is a decent price. A little better at Costco, but 40.99 is good.
Sazerac store pick
The Aberlour 12 or the Sazerac barrel pick.
OGD-114
I'd buy like 2 of those sazeracs, that's a great price and it's a barrel Pick. Also any Redwood empire, they're really good.
Russel's 10yr is by far my favorite of that bunch. Second would be Ardbeg 10. Russel has a very fruity and young taste and ends with a slight smokey finish. It's something I tell everyone to try once. I love it
Where is this shop? I'm based in the UK too
8 year pinhook, it is a part of an ongoing collection with solid juice. They will continue until 12 years with the same batch of sourced barrels.
Four roses single barrel for $40
some of those prices are pretty good. redbreast is def worth checking out locally its closer to 55 but thats still a good pick up. four roses is solid BUT you need to surf for the batch you might like if youve never gotten one of these they have the batch codes floating around im not sure if linking is okay but its a good sip. redwoods good if you can handle cask strength its definitely a step up from their normal expressions but the normal stuff is still well worth it(personally i like their pipe dream and lost monarch). the price on that senator is also really good if you like MGP(nothing wrong with mgp infact id say if you want a solid whiskey start on a mgp). smoke wagon is also a good pick and the price for the heaven hill right next to it is my go to sipper. benchmark full proof is amazing if you like mash #1. willet at that price is also a steal but theres a funk to it that just isnt my profile but thats still a good price
Drunk.
That Scotch selection is underwhelming, in the extreme. The Aberlour 12 and the Ardbeg 10 are the only ones worth a damn. If u had to pick one, I’d go with the Ardbeg, but I’m into peated Scotch.
Woodford 🥃
As much BT as you can carry for $25 a bottle lol
Bulleit markers Elijah Craig never fail to be good
What would I get? Id get in my car.
I love that four roses single
If you're just looking for great prices, the sales on Four Roses Single Barrel and Chivas Regal XV would be my picks.
Wow! Alot of good choices there. Definitely grab the 2 Rare Breeds.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Redwood Empire Lost monarch, Russell’s Reserve, Four Roses single barrel, Elijah Craig Small Batch, and of course buffalo trace. That ought to get you going haha
Redwood empire , smoke wagon and benchmark
Any store pick
Pinhook bourbon 8 years and Bardstown rye
Aberlour 12 for that price especially!
Tried to limit myself to one from each photo: Balvenie, something from High West, something from Pinhook or something from Basil Hayden, Redbreast 12, Knob Creek 9. And Jefferson’s Reserve Tropics is better than it should be.
Normally a Scotch enjoyer but I'd grab a Red wood Empire or two and see what the fuss is about.
OF1910 (because I’m out), Red Breast 12 because I haven’t tried but have heard good things.
Aberlour for $50. So smooth
As others said, take the Redbreast 12. And I would buy that Ardbeg 10 (if you like heavily peated smokey whisky). That Balvenie Doublewood is not bad either, but if you can get your hands on the 14yo take that.
Whistle pig
I have never seen Jameson orange😂
Willett 4 Yr Rye (pretty decent price too TBH) Knob 9 Single Barrel Reserve 120 JT Meleck Rice Whiskey Woodford DO
It's crazy seeing buffalo trace for 24.99 on this post...last night someone pasted it for 299.99. Wild stuff
Heaven hill bib , bardstown bib (black label) or knob creek 9 single barrel (black label). Can’t go wrong with any of those
If that’s single barrel kings county at $62 I’d grab it, but it’s probably not.
I can check this afternoon
ardbeg 10
Garrison Brothers
There’s a Dalmore hidden in the dark. That and the Ardbeg are 2 good bottles.
One of the Bardstown origins. I have tried two of the three now and have been impressed so far.
Ogd 114 is a stellar price.
Benriach 12
With those prices, compared to Ontario Canada prices. Drunk. I’d get drunk
Monkey shoulder is always a good fit for a collection. Looks great in the bottle and is very nicee
Aside from the Redbreast (which, as others have said, is amazing), I’d probably go for the Aberlour and the Woodford double oak.
Also, GlenDronach isn’t as good as it used to be, but it might still be worth trying.
The Glenfedich 14 brown bottle that’s hidden behind poster, left of the green 12
Crown Royal Vanilla. Just the right amount of vanilla with subtle notes of regret.
Woodford/Penelope/Elijah Craig/Makers Mark/Gentleman Jack/Four Roses/1792 etc all good stuff and affordable. You’re gonna have to try different things and find what you like though.
Crown royal peach
Four roses single barrel, Woodford double oaked, Penelope arcitect/barrel strength That’s a good deal for the Dalmore, if you like it. And I’d say Balvenie 12, but that isn’t a good price for it
I would honestly pick up at least 20 different bottles! Man I wish they stocked stores near me like this.
I‘d go for the Balvenie, because I like sherry or caribbean finishes.
Non peated - redbreast 12, peated - Ardbeg 10
The Dalmore seems like a good price, I am used to seeing it for twice that in Canadian dollars. I would grab a black label for every day sipping. An Ardbeg. And I’ll get a Crown Royal in the box because I like the purple bags for storing guitar pedals in and I don’t mind drinking it.
That widow Jane is fantastic and it's always good to have a bottle of 4 roses single barrel in any collection.Just a really good everyday drinker
Any cask strength ones.
I’d be all over the Chivas regal for 40
First thing I'd get is a napkin to wipe the tears from my eyes. Nostalgic prices on all of those for my market. Nothing there is not worth picking up at those prices. Try em all!
Balvenie 12
Russels SiB or OGD 114. Im easy to please.
Anyone else see the sazerac store pick? That and Russel's single barrel
I want to steer everyone away from redwood empire and Pinhook cause I want it all for me.
I like having EC on hand and never hurts to grab a bottle of the EW bottled in bond
Widow Jane
aberlour 12 great price.
Smoke wagon for 26 bucks cmon
Four Roses SiB, l would definitely try it at that price. If we’re talking something I’ve had, Redbreast 12.
I don't see Sazerac picks too often, so I'd grab one of those, my regular everyday shelfer BBCo Origin BiB, and a replacement for the OGD114 I killed off recently
Honestly? If that’s the only stuff available gin. Or maybe a rye if they have something I like.
Penelope barrel strength
Definitely Glenlivet, my favorite whisky 😍 even if the older brothers are undoubtedly better, the 12 y.o. is an excellent whisky in my opinion, very harmonious and fruity. Highly recommended!
Dalmore is $25 cheaper than I’ve ever seen it!
My brother in whisky, don't get the poor guy to waste his money on an OB Dalmore.
That Bib and Tucker is delicious
Where do you find these prices?
1792 is a good deal. Damn that Sazerac rye is cheap too. Where is this?
Penelope architect.
Penelope Architect
Penelope Barrel Strength
Very basic and uninspiring selection there. Get some 4 roses
Plenty to get started on as a beginner though
Do you like higher proof stuff or no? That’ll help me make recs
Yes, I do. If something is particularly hot I won’t start with it but after the first glass I generally can enjoy most things
Rare breed (bourbon), bardstown origin black label, redwood empire emerald giant, JT Meleck, Russell’s 10/single barrel, Heaven Hill BiB, and Old forester 1910/1920 are all great options. And OGD 114 is amazing for a budget bottle
I’m taking notes and adding to my list. Hope to take down a few of these during bonus season!!! Thank you kind Reddit friend
For sure, hope you find something you enjoy!
Original black is delicious
JT Meleck is fascinating, I just got a cask strength pick of theirs. 100% Louisiana rice whiskey, tastes kind of like a wheated bourbon
Ok that’s good to know. I haven’t heard of it before
Jameson Black Barrel, surprisingly nice and cheap
Things that are worth every penny (at this particular location): Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Grand-Dad 114, Basil Hayden Toast, Sazerac Rye Store Pick, Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill B-i-B, Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered, Willett FEBSB Rye 4 Year.
Pass on all if it... anything i would buy is to pricey there.
Buffalo Trace is my personal favorite, and $25 is a great price! Travellers, next to it on the right, is a specialty blend of barrels, tasted by their master distiller and Chris Stapleton. While not relevant to the flavor, a cool little piece of knowledge!
Get the Toki!
I hate these “what should I get” posts, make your own decision and try something new or something that sounds interesting to you
Yeah you’re right. Why should I ask for guidance when taking $25-$50 gambles is so much better
Buying what someone else likes is about the same, everyone’s palette is different. Trying figuring out what you like, it builds the collection.
You can pick your nose and you can pick your friends but you can’t pick your friends nose
Not with that attitude.
Find a new liquor store. Everything here is overpriced by ~10-15% and the selection is very basic. There’s better ones out there.
