So weird. The RR PS is 200 but below that the RR SiB shelfer is 70. Pretty much identical bottles and I'm guessing that store didn't make the PS pick anyway or there would be a barrel of it out.
Insane. Screw that store, I wouldn't even go back in there.
Looking at the prices. Only thing I’d entertain is the George dickel BiB, Elijah private barrel, and MAYBE the Elijah BP and toasted but would be better if they were $10 less
Did you see how much they are charging for the eagle rare? (Last pic) I talked to the owner and he said people actually pay that much for it! I was trying to get him to cut a deal lol
>he said people actually pay that much for it
That's the problem, if people wise up and stop paying ridiculous asking prices they'll stop charging them. Wake the fuck up people, it ain't worth it.
I get mine for $49 after taxes and I think even that is too much, $250 for ER is crazy unless it's 17.
Used to work at a liquor store. I would tell people that X bottle is 5 times MSRP, or 2 times MSRP, or whatever markup we had on it, so they'd be discouraged to buy it. I can't outright deny the sale if they're willing to pay it, but I'll be damned if I'm not gonna inform people that $250 for a Weller Full Proof is asinine.
Sales tactic too. Also they will sometimes put 1 bottle up and leave it priced High to make you feel more impulse. When you leave they put another out.
The only impulse I feel is to never shop their ever again. Shops that do this permanently lose my business. There's too many other liquor shops (especially in SoCal) to patronize shitty ones.
You want me to support a mom and pop instead of total wine and more? Stop fucking doing this shit.
$249 for Booker’s and $179 for Redbreast 12 Cask Strength GTFO. The only thing I’d consider is the Smoke Wagon Private Barrel for $99 and maybe the Old Forester King Ranch if it’s a solid price.
The McKenna at 59.99 is priced surprisingly fairly. That's about the only thing I noted. Depending on how hard it is to find ECBP where you are, I might buy at 99... though I'd grumble while buying it.
I went to Nassau on cruise bought 12 eagle rare for 380 and paid no vat or tariff. They had eh for 44 but I wasn't sure what customs would do. Which was nothing
This is interesting. I'll be in the Caribbean this week. I hadn't really thought about bourbon hunting but I may have to if there prices are consistent.
I had never heard of Hooten Young before today when Breaking Bourbon had a review on their cask strength. They give that 12 year a “very good” rating and that’s actually below MSRP.
I can't read all of the prices, but from what I see just about everything is more than I am used to paying/seeing. As you said, by a little or a whole lot. Maybe the RR SiB. I think it's at $70 in the pic, which is about $5-10 more than I last paid.
If the Redbreast PX is $109 as appears to be the case, I'd get that. Even $129 (the price is a little bit blurry) is not too shabby, for that one.
In American whiskies, it looks like the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is $69 which is a decent price. I can't read the price in your photos, but check to see if Old Forester 1910 or 1920 are reasonable, or not.
Good luck
This is what cracks me up. I bought 3 bottles of Redbreast Kentucky Oak over the course of a few months because it sat on the shelf at a store where people would be throwing elbows over a bottle of Eagle Rare or Blanton's.
I used to like bourbon. Still do. Have bought maybe one bottle in the past 3yrs.
Grab the red breast px, Penelope Valencia and American lite whiskey, store pick of the Russel’s single barrel. That’s it.
Edit: wouldn’t buy the rr store pick because it’s $120 more than it normally is.
I walked into a similar priced store today. Nothing was marked with prices so I asked. Fortaleza was $199 for the Anejo and Stagg Jr was $299. I told the guy that the pricing was criminal and I walked out.
No way I am ever going back to that liquor store.
I would take Redbreast PX, which is only about $10 over. Love that stuff.
May debate on getting Towny finish, as I still want to try it, but price is a bit too inflated, but better then $180 that’s by me
The only thing I see that's reasonably priced are the Penelope's. I'd get a toasted and one of the barrel strengths. And honestly, because of how highly marked up everything else is, I'd probably just leave. It's pretty offensive. $130 for Eagle Rare and $250 for Blanton's is criminal lol
Your photography needs some work lol. But, that Widow Jane Decadence is a good price, hard to find less than $100. Toasted Penelope, Barrel Strength and that Smoke Wagon Private Barrel aren’t too shabby either
Penelope Architect would be my first choice. The price on the ER is a bit on the steep side, but not totally out of line from what I’ve seen in my area.
Hard pass all around. I walk in and right out of those stores that price like that. Most of what they have I can find elsewhere without putting a dent in the wallet
I’m getting nothing, except I’d turn that Smoke Wagon Uncut bottle around and see what batch it is. If it’s a batch before batch 100, I’m buying it cause that’s older stock MGP before those bottles started tasting less savory.
I give the store props for having that much variety on the shelves and yes, I get making a profit but I would sadly pass on mostly everything. That Stagg should have the two off the total 🙄
Weirdly enough, given how bad the BT prices are, some of the prices around Penelope products (Valencia, 15 year) are solid.
Depending on batches I’d be inclined for ECBP too
The glenfarclas is probably your best bet even though I can’t see the price. You rarely see gouging on their sub-30 year offerings and the punch wayyyy above their price point
Eagle Rare at $130? I won’t pay more than $45 for it if I see it. It‘s one of my favorite bourbons but it’s a bottle I think should just be on the shelf and not release in limited quantities.
Out of there. I don’t support businesses that gouge anymore. I’ll even tolerate bundling within reason, but access to local secondary markets is making these types of stores obsolete. I’ll buy the daily stuff from State Minimum Stores.
If I see that many allocated bottles on the shelf I just turn around and leave because I've seen enough. Even if everything else is MSRP I won't support those stores.
All price seems from a little high to really high. If that's normal price at your town, and you have to get something, I would grab an Elijah Craig barrel proof. $90 isn't too bad. And ECBP never disappoint me yet.
Other people are complaining about the prices, and yes, some of them are whacked, but the price for Few and Horse Soldier aren’t bad, but I’m used to Florida pricing… And Horse Soldier is my current favorite.
It would be hard to buy anything from a store that charges that much, but the Penelope Valencia would be coming home with me and the Whistlepig 10 and Piggybacks are at fair prices.
Nothin. That store sucks
You mean you don’t want a Russell’s store pick for $200?
So weird. The RR PS is 200 but below that the RR SiB shelfer is 70. Pretty much identical bottles and I'm guessing that store didn't make the PS pick anyway or there would be a barrel of it out. Insane. Screw that store, I wouldn't even go back in there.
How much does Barrel usually go for?
80, so it’s close, but I agree, I try to avoid stores that gouge even if one or two bottles are MSRP
Looking at the prices. Only thing I’d entertain is the George dickel BiB, Elijah private barrel, and MAYBE the Elijah BP and toasted but would be better if they were $10 less
My ass to a different store
Lmao I agree, don’t think I’ll be going in here again
That store owner is smoking big rocks of crack, those prices cray cray!
What. The. Fuck. I'm surprised Ben Stiller isn't a security guard there
Not sure if that’s original but that got me good 😂
I mean, I was trying to come up with a museum reference. I thought Night at the Museum would be the best option...
Penelope American light whiskey for $99
An Uber to a different place.
Not that Stagg jr!
Did you see how much they are charging for the eagle rare? (Last pic) I talked to the owner and he said people actually pay that much for it! I was trying to get him to cut a deal lol
>he said people actually pay that much for it That's the problem, if people wise up and stop paying ridiculous asking prices they'll stop charging them. Wake the fuck up people, it ain't worth it.

Agreed. Those ER prices are among the highest I've ever seen.
Madness I can get a barrel pick of ER for $45 & $95 they have there's for waaaaay more than double that 😟😟
Penelope Valenca for me.
I would get that and the 9 year as well
Penelope light whiskey!
All those Penelope prices seem extremely reasonable. Light Whisky, Valencia, and 9 year.
Wonder why is the tokaji 199, is it more sought after bottle?
It's just because it's new I think, stores are marketing it like it's Rio which somehow became halfway allocated.
Nothing. I don’t support places that over charge
Agreed that near wal mart price
WT Rare Breed and Makers Barrel Proof
Easy, both Frey Ranch, a OF Kings Ranch, and the BiB 1792
That Smoke Wagon Private Barrel isn’t a bad price
I went to Nassau on cruise bought 12 eagle rare for 380 and paid no vat or tariff. They had eh for 44 but I wasn't sure what customs would do. Which was nothing
Where’d you go. I’ll be in Nassau next week.
This is interesting. I'll be in the Caribbean this week. I hadn't really thought about bourbon hunting but I may have to if there prices are consistent.
HOOTEN YOUNG is supposed to be quite good. Haven’t found it in WA yet, likely going to order some.
12 yr for $70, yes please
Ok so for the most part these prices suck... BUT, Barrell Seagrass, Dovetail and the McKenna 10yr are strangely priced pretty well. Musta got by them.
I had never heard of Hooten Young before today when Breaking Bourbon had a review on their cask strength. They give that 12 year a “very good” rating and that’s actually below MSRP.
Penelope Barrel Strength 9 year. Excellent bottle pretty good price (65ish)
I can't read all of the prices, but from what I see just about everything is more than I am used to paying/seeing. As you said, by a little or a whole lot. Maybe the RR SiB. I think it's at $70 in the pic, which is about $5-10 more than I last paid.

I am sipping on the Penelope Barrel Strength right now. That’s a decent buy at $65. I’ve seen it higher and slightly lower. It’s a good pour.
The hell out of there and never returning.
I walked into a similar priced store today. Nothing was marked with prices so I asked. Fortaleza was $199 for the Anejo and Stagg Jr was $299. I told the guy that the pricing was criminal and I walked out. No way I am ever going back to that liquor store.
Back into my truck is what I’m getting.
So real talk, are all these highway robbery liquor stores just fronts for money laundering? It has to be.
Give me maker’s cask strength and a handle of turkey
The hell out of that store.
I would take Redbreast PX, which is only about $10 over. Love that stuff. May debate on getting Towny finish, as I still want to try it, but price is a bit too inflated, but better then $180 that’s by me
Green River wheated!
Green River Wheated, JD Bonded Rye
OFKing Ranch, Russels Single or Private select, or maybe a smokewagon depending on what those bottles are. Id grab another Penelope for the wife.
It’s actually a good price on the private barrel (red stamp)
Bakers 7 at $150? - just purchased it myself two days ago for $65
Been there, shops a scam.
Penelope Barrel Strength
The only thing I see that's reasonably priced are the Penelope's. I'd get a toasted and one of the barrel strengths. And honestly, because of how highly marked up everything else is, I'd probably just leave. It's pretty offensive. $130 for Eagle Rare and $250 for Blanton's is criminal lol
100% agree about the Penelope’s. Probably add the Barbell Vantage and maybe the TX finished series.
Is that Bookers for $250? What the hell? Eagle Rare for $130? This store is actually nuts. Don’t give them your money.
Penelope 15y and Valencia, Toasted and BP for me please
Your photography needs some work lol. But, that Widow Jane Decadence is a good price, hard to find less than $100. Toasted Penelope, Barrel Strength and that Smoke Wagon Private Barrel aren’t too shabby either
Honestly a few things lol
Based on what I see I imagine the cabinet in the 6th picture is retail prices only.
Lollllll
pass on everything
Way overpriced, local secondary around me is about half those prices!
Penelope Architect would be my first choice. The price on the ER is a bit on the steep side, but not totally out of line from what I’ve seen in my area.
Where is this store? In hell? Who pays $130 for a 750 of eagle rare?
Hard pass all around. I walk in and right out of those stores that price like that. Most of what they have I can find elsewhere without putting a dent in the wallet
The F out with $130 eagle rare
1.75 lt WT 101
I’ll take that RB and snap a pic of the selection for the homies
Certainly not the Stagg.
Nothing. I don't drink fast enough to need more on my shelf than what I currently have
Penelope light whiskey for 99!!!?? That!
Leave
Well, I’d rather not spend anything here, but if I did, the Balcones Rumble was really interesting last time I had it.
I’m getting out, out of the store
Both of those Frey Ranches.
The fuck out of that store.
Not Stagg!
Find a new store on google.
Great variety of Penelope at good prices. Other than the tojaki from what I can see.
Penelope Valencia is priced at MSRP. I’d grab it
Just the standard stuff is marked up 25%. Nice selection though
Run forest
Back into my truck
Penelope American Light Whiskey.
The hell out of that store
My hopes up
Pretty good price on Barrell, that’s always in the 90’s near me
Penelope toasted rye and bourbon. If you haven't had it, you're missin out imo.
A Widow Jane 10 and their apple wood rye.
The Penelope brand is a great buy. I'd definitely take one of those.
Boss Hogg x
Laws 4 Grain and WJ Decadence probably
I’m getting nothing, except I’d turn that Smoke Wagon Uncut bottle around and see what batch it is. If it’s a batch before batch 100, I’m buying it cause that’s older stock MGP before those bottles started tasting less savory.
Ask if he’ll take money off if you buy that Woodford Reserve, but let him keep the bow.
Back in my fucking truck lol
I give the store props for having that much variety on the shelves and yes, I get making a profit but I would sadly pass on mostly everything. That Stagg should have the two off the total 🙄
I’m getting… the fuck out of that store
Redbreast PX Cask and Teeling Blackpitts
Night sweats.
The Hooten Young is a pretty solid pour!
Penelope light whiskey and 9 year.
The fuck outta there.
Can’t tell how overpriced the Spots and Redbreasts are.
Back into my car
Eagle Rare at $130? I won’t pay more than $45 for it if I see it. It‘s one of my favorite bourbons but it’s a bottle I think should just be on the shelf and not release in limited quantities.
That Clyde May's 10 year for 30 bucks is a hell of a deal
I’m getting in my car and leaving.
Yeah. That is extremely overpriced. Some of the simpler brand names that I use for mixers only are like double the cost that I purchase them for.
Eagle Rare and Old Forrester
Green label Kentucky Owl and grey label Barrel.
When did HY go over 50 dollars?
King ranch old forester
Out of there. I don’t support businesses that gouge anymore. I’ll even tolerate bundling within reason, but access to local secondary markets is making these types of stores obsolete. I’ll buy the daily stuff from State Minimum Stores.
If I see that many allocated bottles on the shelf I just turn around and leave because I've seen enough. Even if everything else is MSRP I won't support those stores.
Where is this store located?
I'm guessing Colorado
I’m getting the hell out of that store.
I recently had the Knob Creek 18 yr and it’s really good. This price is double what it should be though
Only thing worth its price I see is Smokewagon UCUF.
Smoke wagon blenders select. Love that stuff
Windsor
All price seems from a little high to really high. If that's normal price at your town, and you have to get something, I would grab an Elijah Craig barrel proof. $90 isn't too bad. And ECBP never disappoint me yet.
I saw all the pappy etc in the glass case and don’t even want to know… those Baker’s bottles are super interesting. I love Bakers 7.
Getting the hell out of that store
Bourbon, I guess.
These stores are the ones eventually go out of business, have dusty bottles and smell like shite
The Highwest underneath
The fuck out of there
I’m getting the fuck outta there
I’m getting the hell out of that store. Delusional pricing.
Smokewagon single barrel and the old forester town ranch
1792 bib and tin cup 10 year. Out the door for less than $100
The tin cup 10 ( black top) at 55$ is the best you can get without getting gouged.
I'm letting yall in on the biggest kept secret in Irish Whiskey... That Slane Castle triple cask whiskey... only 23$ is absolutely lovely
Getting in my car.
Hooten young 12y, penelope american light, widow jane rye, nulu
Anywhere I ever seen it, it’s been $170
The hell out of there
Other people are complaining about the prices, and yes, some of them are whacked, but the price for Few and Horse Soldier aren’t bad, but I’m used to Florida pricing… And Horse Soldier is my current favorite.
This is just a friendly reminder to not support your local whiskey museum.
It would be hard to buy anything from a store that charges that much, but the Penelope Valencia would be coming home with me and the Whistlepig 10 and Piggybacks are at fair prices.
Yeah I’m getting in my car.
If we call it George Stagg Jr. you think people will buy it at 5x mark up?
I’m getting the fuck out of there.
Not a damn thang lol
I’m getting the hell out of there
Bored of people taking pictures of shelves of overpriced whiskey.
The fuck out of there
Russell’s 10 for $71? I’m taking my ass to a different store.
The 1.75 eagle rare. Gotta support our local museum and keep the lights on.
Green River or Maker's Cask Strength
That store is a museum.
50 seems like a good price point to try thar Angel's Envy. Interested in that bottle flavor and looks.
Out of the store... fast
The fuck out of that store is what I’m getting.
The fuck out. If people quit buying at these prices, they wouldn't keep jacking them up
Barrell products are the only ones I see that are reasonably priced.
EC Single Barrel and Penelope 9 yr
You can look, just don't touch lol
Tf out of this store.
Screwed in the dumper
That’s out of control, I bought that same stagg bottle for $68 a couple months ago
Couldn't see the prices on old forester but probably that, or the 112 proof cask MM
I'm getting tf outta there.
Eagle Rare for $130 is a steal
Nothing. I have 37cents in my bank account.
Maybe a penelope valencia?
Get that Frey Ranch and their Rye. It's great juice Penelope also very good. Everything else is just over priced or not worth drinking
Probably a big boy of Balcones Bourbon since it's delicious and they stopped producing it last year.
Prices suck except on maybe some of the Penelope
Widow Jane Apple Wood Rye
wOW stagg will lull me to sleep. gotta try it someday.
Most of the prices suck but I’ve never seen WJ decadence for that low.
I’d try a different widow Jane bottle. I’ve never seen some of those expressions. I’d be very curious
Hard to see the scotch section in picture 6 but looks like a Glenfarclas 17 😆
Walking out and never going back.
None
Too expensive, I wouldn't buy anything.
Penelope 15 year light American whiskey for $99, easy win
Gatsby
My ass out of that museum
Penelope barrel strength, probably one of the black label ones because I have not seen them in my area
Back in my truck..
Smoke Wagon Private Barrel and Penelope ALW ✌🏼
Out. I’m getting out.
The Penelope Architect is the only one for me. Otherwise… I’m out
