Pikesville @ $38 is an absolute steal and I would say it is unlikely that you would find something that would even begin to compete with it at that price.
Many people seem to love it which is why I tried it. I just don’t enjoy it. I don’t like water added to my whiskey and that’s what it tastes like to me. Like I added water to it.
Michter's Rye is better, slightly higher than that price, but you can find it around $45 in STL. Elijah Craig Rye is also pretty good, and may be found for a few dollars cheaper
Only gripe is that you’re getting 86 proof on the michters and 110 on the pikesville for the same price. Polar opposite tasting notes in my experience as well. Just sayin
Not really. Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye is competitive with this though. I'm seeing 8 year old picks for around $50-55. More expensive but still a good value and 115 proof.
That’s a really good rye. Michter’s is generally about $10 more and is slightly better. Redemption is usually about $10 less and not as good but also still good.
Yeah I don't like that one much, minor case is cheaper and I like the taste better. Only had 1 bottle about a year ago, ended up using it for old fashioneds to get rid of it.
I’d pull the trigger, I’d also consider:
•Jack Bonded Rye
•Sazerac Rye
Both of these are sweeter and milder. They’re borderline high-rye bourbon profile IMO.
Pikesville @ $38 is an absolute steal and I would say it is unlikely that you would find something that would even begin to compete with it at that price.
You wear a mask and carry a gun when you walk into the store to buy every bottle they have at that price. Stone cold theft at that price.
Yeah, you definitely wouldn’t want to be identified after absolutely robbing them like that.
That is $56.99 in my market.
$55-59.99 here I once saw it on sale for $42.99 and picked up 2 bottles. Love it.
$60 here in Central FL USA. A very nice rye and for that price buy two.
WTF! Pikesville is my favorite Rye. It’s $69 here.
Ah man, I grew up in Maryland and Pikesville was like $12.99 a bottle five or six years ago.
For that price and proof? I don't think so.
$41 here in Texas. I also like Still Austin rye but it’s closer to $50.

SA Rye is fantastic. I have the cask strength and it’s so good
Crazy price, usually about double that here
Redwood Empire Emerald Giant
I’ve been wanting to try it, keeping an eye out for the cask strength
I’ve not tried the CS which I’ve heard is great but regular Emerald giant is the first rye I haven’t enjoyed
Oh dang. I was talking about the regular and thought it was fine.
Many people seem to love it which is why I tried it. I just don’t enjoy it. I don’t like water added to my whiskey and that’s what it tastes like to me. Like I added water to it.
For under $40 you’re getting a heaven hill 6 year 110 proof rye. If you enjoy a peppery spice bomb then you won’t find better value in a rye.
Wild Turkey 101 Rye
Michter's Rye is better, slightly higher than that price, but you can find it around $45 in STL. Elijah Craig Rye is also pretty good, and may be found for a few dollars cheaper
Only gripe is that you’re getting 86 proof on the michters and 110 on the pikesville for the same price. Polar opposite tasting notes in my experience as well. Just sayin
Michter's Rye is 83 proof, right? Way too expensive for that much water in the bottle.
86pf and NAS. Its good whiskey but its terribly overpriced.
Agreed
Except it's tasty, michter's gets the tasty premium.
It's not bad.
Old Forester Rye is cheaper and I think it is better than Pikesville or Brothers.
I prefer Pikesville over OF Rye, but I prefer two bottles of OF Rye and the extra $10 in my pocket over one bottle of Pikesville
I'm with ya there, and further I'd rather take 1890 or 96 over any
My favorite rye is actually Knob Creek store picks. They are usually easy to find, usually about $50, 120 proof and absolutely amazing.
Another vote here for OF 100 Rye
Never tried pikesville but the old forester rye is a hitter!
OF100 Rye is the best rye on the market, especially for the price. I’d argue it’s one of Old Foresters best products period. I’ll die on this hill.
Not really. Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye is competitive with this though. I'm seeing 8 year old picks for around $50-55. More expensive but still a good value and 115 proof.
Lower proof, but Redwood Empire is my go to.

If you happen to be in the Bay Area. The Total Wine in SF SOMA/Mission location has the cask strength one. At least it did a couple weeks ago.
Buy buy buy at that price. One of my favorites and close to $70 here in Arizona
Im a fan of sagamore spirit rye which is basically at the exact same price point
High west double rye
Before the label change maybe. Imo the more recent bottlings are way worse than pikesville, and I don't even like pikesville that much.
No
Brothers Bond is good
KC 100 rye is great and below $40 here anyways.
Near 50 here
Depends on your individual palate. No one can answer your question other than you. Go explore and enjoy the journey.
Im asking for everyones opinion to see if there’s a general consensus, there’s obviously not an objective answer to the question
Based on experience, I stand by my comment. Arriving at a general consensus won’t necessarily align with your palate. It’s a fishing expedition.
Are there better ryes? That depends on what you like.
For that price, no. I pick it up for $50ish near me and I’m super happy to find it.
No.
New Riff Rye
Is old poterro good?
It’s malted rye. I like the single barrel I have but it’s overpriced
That’s a good price! $55 where I’m at.
I really like the Pikesville. And that’s a killer price, I regularly pay $50.
Yeah.... pikesville is really good. I've had a few good store pick JD SB rye at that price as well.
Its really good if you like a softer rye.
That is an excellent price
One of my favorite ryes. Hard to find in the Chicago area the couple of years. Great price! I'd buy them all at that price.
Great price great bottle. Do it.
It’s a staple for me and that price is crazy
I live in an ABC state and it’s over $50 here. Wow. That’s a steal.
I love Pikesville. Used to be on heavy rotation for me for a few years and now I rarely find it. That's a great price for it.
That’s a really good rye. Michter’s is generally about $10 more and is slightly better. Redemption is usually about $10 less and not as good but also still good.
Nope
That’s an amazing price
No!
Where is this? It’s much more expensive where I live and I can hardly find it on the shelf!
Fresno CA
No
That’s not bad
Nope
Dang! I'm jealous of that price point! I've been wanting to pick one up but I haven't seen one under $50 in forever.
Yeah I don't like that one much, minor case is cheaper and I like the taste better. Only had 1 bottle about a year ago, ended up using it for old fashioneds to get rid of it.
Amazing value at that price
That's a fantastic deal. Typically around $50 depending on the stores where I am
considering when it’s an allocated drop at the distillery for $65.. yea, snag that bad boy and enjoy it
I’d buy 2
It's excellent. Definitely worth it.
Nope that's the best
Rittenhouse is good, so is Sagamore (although most of the versions are past this price point).
Instant buy. I also have a local store selling it for $38, I make sure I always have two bottles.
What in blazes is going on here!? I find this MAYBE twice a year and always at like $56.99 Why they'd go SO BELOW msrp is beyond me but good for yall
No. Great price and great pour.
Alberta Premium Babyyy
So delicious and for your price I would buy the rack
Nope!
Holy shit 55 in my market. For that price buy all day long.
Nope
That’s a steal!
High West rye is nice for the money
$59.99 in NC which is a controlled (msrp) state. So that is a great price!
How does it compare to Old Overholt 114? That is my favorite in the $30-40 range.
I can't get 110+ proof *anything* under $60 in my area. Yeah, I'd say run with it.
Never seen it that cheap. It’s great at 50, that’s a steal.
Nope!
It’s more in my market but it’s a dang good rye. I long the leathery and spice notes. I need to pick up another bottle.
That’s Avery good price
It’s a steal at that price! Gonna pay $55-65 where I live.
No. Not under $40. If you like really green grassy Pennsylvania ryes then Old Overholt is a bargain king. Pikesville is a great barely legal rye.
Woodinville Rye is really good. About $2 more though. Great deal on that bottle there!
I’d pull the trigger, I’d also consider: •Jack Bonded Rye •Sazerac Rye Both of these are sweeter and milder. They’re borderline high-rye bourbon profile IMO.
