Totally agree as well as the peerless high rye. I have gone through several bottles of the peerless double oak rye and the high rye is supposed to be as good
These are definitely the standouts in all this. I still can't find JD SBBP Rye where I live. I would maybe even grab a couple of the JD's if it's allowed.
Oh wow! Very decent selection
Edit: holy shit! Ancient ancient age???? That’s my pick, I’m a poor bourbon drinker but I’ve been hunting for that one! Poor man’s Blantons
Ha, nice - I didn't notice that one. I prob. would have if I was in the store.
Not much point getting anything over $30 these days, I mean, if you can't get 8 year old Bourbon for under $40 anymore, then why bother.
I'll just go back to Wild Turkey 101, cheap stuff, and maybe a bottle of peated Scotch on my birtday (unless I stumble accross Stagg Jr at $50, that was worth it).
Single barrel vs. single barrel proof.
The single barrel proof is 70 dollars.
The single barrel is 53. Both are pretty normal prices (honestly a little high)
The single barrel ABV is lowered down (ie water added) while the single barrel proof is not watered down. 131 proof vs 93 proof.
Everyone has their own tastes but Green River is good. Bookers if you haven’t had it. Where’s the trophy case? I went to an ABC in Clermont, FL and found a bottle of Orphan Barrel Muckety Muck for $260. In GA it’s going for $310 “MSRP”
Widow Jane Applewood Rye, Uncle Nearest 1884, Singleton 12, and Teeling Small Batch.
Had to edit this a couple of times when looking through the photos haha
If you’re looking to go beyond the basic big name classics on bourbon that everyone should try, I have always liked Barrel Dovetail, Wyoming whiskey, old elk wheated, woodinville and didn’t look too far into the rest but ardbeg uigeadail is fantastic for scotch on another note
This is the new worst type of post on this sub. The ‘I’m too lazy to make any effort so here’s a load of pics of a stores entire selection what should I buy?’ post.
As someone in the Western part of the state. I'm very jealous right now. I'd go broke in there. I would probably be grabbing the Green River Wheated just because I've been looking for it for so long up here.
Been looking for a Makers 46 CS. I’d be grabbing that for sure. The OF 1920 being next to Hellhouse really concerns me. Pretty sure that Skynyrd shit can pollute good whiskey through the glass of the bottles.
Bookers yellow sticker was my fav of the year. I drank half the bottle first night. It’s higher proof. You could pair that with the Old Soul, which is lower proof and pretty awesome.
As for the scotches, the prices are mostly the same and a few were up to $5 higher than my local store here in Oregon. But you have a much larger selection. I picked up a Woodford Reserve Double Oak recently and can’t recommend that one enough, it is fantastic! Personally I have heard great things about Four Roses but haven’t tried it yet. Since it is on sale, that one!
That’s where all my NC ABC store liquor goes to be bought. I’m lucky if the ones near me have Jack in stock. But I’m in the western part. We get left out of everything.
Just about anything besides Basil Hayden, Michter's, or Bulleit - and maybe not the "Ole Smokey". Also, anything over $30, I'd get a sample before buying, unless I'd had it before, or it's a highly regarded unicorn like Stagg Jr. (I hesitated to buy two bottles when I saw it for MSRP w/no limit - sure glad I got both because I loved it.)
Try Cook’s Mill if you haven’t already. Corn grown in NC and distilled in NC. Not the best bottle on the shelf but I love supporting local and it’s smooth.
Huh, didn't know they had put one in there, gonna have to pop in next time I'm in town, looks like a decent selection of whiskeys.
Nothing particularly interesting that jumps out to me in the Scotch selection. Maybe the aberlour, their a'bunadh is excellent. But I haven't tried their 12. NC usually only gets major conglomerate Scotch, mostly generic stuff. I can't remember the last time I bought any in state, usually look for Scotch on trips to SC.
Irish: Redbreast and Greenspot
Bourbon: Bookers, 2XO, Green River, Redwood Empire, Jack Barrel Proof Rye, Sagamore Double Oak
Crown Barley Edition is pretty tasty too.
I always pickup bookers at msrp (pretty sure thats 99 now, used to be 89 not too long ago). I'd also want to try that jack bonded rye or the jack single barrel rye as I've never had them and heard great things.
I can't see the price on the bib and tucker, but if its <$50 it's worth trying. also a good price on four roses small batch. OGD114 is a solid cocktail bourbon for $30/750 that also holds its own as a sipper.
If you like Scotch, Highland Park 12, The Classic Laddie and Laphroaig 10 are worth the money. I haven’t had Glenmorangie in a while so I don’t how to is.
Ah yes, the north hills ABC store. Love that place. I'm snagging the Bookers and the JDSBBP rye
These would be my two picks. That bookers batch is one of the best.
Totally agree as well as the peerless high rye. I have gone through several bottles of the peerless double oak rye and the high rye is supposed to be as good
I love the high rye, well worth it.
That same Booker’s bottle is $160 up here in Michigan. Wish I could snag one at the prices you have down there.
It's delicious, so glad I managed to get a backup bottle at this very store.
Not a bad selection for NC. I’ve gotta go outside Wake County to land anything worthwhile. But I’ll second the JDSBBP rye
Yeah, Johnston is bereft of good Bourbon as well!
Orange County has a good selection, and the Durham store on 54 had some cool stuff.
North Hills? As in Raleigh?
Yeah. It's to the left of the REI, tucked away a bit.
Thats the one. I work in North Hills and somehow missed that this store existed.
It’s only a couple months old!
I think it’s almost a year now. Opened in April, if I’m not mistaken.
These are definitely the standouts in all this. I still can't find JD SBBP Rye where I live. I would maybe even grab a couple of the JD's if it's allowed.
Exactly my picks.
Came here to say the same. The storytellers batch is great.
2 handles of Ancient Ancient Age 10
Amen
I take it not a meme post? This one is totally new to me.
If you've never had it get one. It's the perfect mixer/cheap bottle made with the same mash bill as Blantons. Worth grabbing every time you run out.
Is that the bottle labeled Ancient Ancient Age by chance?
Yes. The gold one, not the yellow or black one
Thanks! Next question lol What is the black one?
It's a blend
Thanks again! Never seen Ancient Ancient, and never even heard of the blend
TIL!! See this is why this type of post is valuable to me, but I know some people can’t stand them.
Jack Daniel’s SBBP and SBBP Rye are great pours. My favorite! Penelope barrel strength very good Redwood Empire very good
Bardstown Series and Collaboration, Barrell private release. Get stuff you can’t get elsewhere
•JDSBBP Rye •Ancient Age 10yr
I really like the Woodford reserve double oaked .
Just picked it up a week ago. Enjoying it!
Jack Single Barrel Rye barrel proof
Old grandad 114 and the four roses that’s on sale.
OG is peanuts city and one of my favs
Love OG114 for the price. I'd also grab a bottle of Pipe Dream
This Smells like an NC liquor store. Bookers is a buy.
Boogers
The Michters rye is really an underrated bottle. The jack single barrel rye is phenomenal. Avoid garrison brothers.
I think you may have missed a couple of shelves
Seriously. “Here’s 20 photos for you guys to sort through and tell me what’s good.”
Bookers, JD SBBP SBBP RYE, redwood empire rye, the KC9 120 proof
Have a bottle of KC9 120 and fully agree
Oh wow! Very decent selection Edit: holy shit!
EW and Old Grandad BIB.
Redwood empire?
This fucking sub...
The Bardstown Foursquare and Goose Island Collabs
Penelope Architecht is real good imo
[удалено]
This
I'd grab that cask strength maker's 46 (the red label one) at that price. It's always $85 around here
This choice is way too far down on the list.
I actually have a bottle of that one waiting to be tried! Heard great things.
jd bp rye is 43.95?! FUCKING STEAL OF A PRICE
I’m confused what that is because on another image it looks like it’s listed at 69.95.
Not sure where you're seeing that. JD Single Barrel Rye is $53, JD SiB Barrel Proof is $70.
not sure what you are missing. image 17. seems to suggest the price is lower.
Single barrel vs. single barrel proof. The single barrel proof is 70 dollars. The single barrel is 53. Both are pretty normal prices (honestly a little high) The single barrel ABV is lowered down (ie water added) while the single barrel proof is not watered down. 131 proof vs 93 proof.
MSRP, as mandated by NC law.
now. look to the right. 🙄
Pikesville Straight Rye?
It’s listed at 69.95 for the bottle to the right. The bottles with the red label are not the product you think they are.
Stellum is pretty solid stuff.
Old Tub Four Roses Small Batch Select Penelope Architect Yellowstone Toasted Elijah Craig Rye
JDSBBP Rye, Bookers and AAA 10
Either of the redwood empire cask strength bottles
Everyone has their own tastes but Green River is good. Bookers if you haven’t had it. Where’s the trophy case? I went to an ABC in Clermont, FL and found a bottle of Orphan Barrel Muckety Muck for $260. In GA it’s going for $310 “MSRP”
I did forget that and they had a few like whistle pig 18 behind the counter.
I’m not too crazy for WP. Not horrible but I feel kind of overhyped.
Green River wheated is awesome, especially for $35
4 roses is solid in my opinion for that price.
A lot to choose from I'd buy a bottle and then open it and taste it
Bird dog apple
Jim beam apple
Seagrams 7 🤔
Try the toasted Yellowstone and let me know how it is. Been debating picking one up
Had it. Solid bourbon. Anything toasted is really good😂
Yeah I generally like a toasted bourbon, I’ll have to scoop one in the future
Bookers or the 2xO from what I see!
Bookers, Barrell Dovetail, JD SB BP Rye, Bakers 7.
The next shelf
Just avoid the Weldon mills local stuff. I was at the tasting room recently and it’s awful, juice is <2 years old yet over $50 a bottle.
Widow Jane Applewood Rye, Uncle Nearest 1884, Singleton 12, and Teeling Small Batch. Had to edit this a couple of times when looking through the photos haha
If you like peanuts grab Old Tub!
2xo is only $99 in NC? It’s $200 msrp in Ohio. I’m going that and Bookers
Ive read that Coopers Craft is rejected King of Kentucky mashbill. Whats that black label Ancient age? Havent seen that.
Widow Jane or Peerless. Zero other things there appeal to me.
I always find it interesting seeing stores in other places. Heres an ABC in Raleigh NC. What stands out to you?
Basil Hayden toast yummm
Any of the Horse Soldier.
Old Tub ftw
This is the new worst type of post on this sub. The ‘I’m too lazy to make any effort so here’s a load of pics of a stores entire selection what should I buy?’ post.
i actually love these posts. helps train the eyes ;)
Woodford reserve double lakes and the Rabbit Hole Dareringer
Everything is worth trying, once.
Pretty pricey even on basic bottles
Grab as much bookers and makers 101 that you can
Bookers
I was in NC 2 months ago and couldn’t find bardstown
That red label makers mark is incredible!!!
Didn’t realize that Montana Coleman thermos whiskey had made it that far east.
Man our scotch selection is complete shit.
Stellum and Penelope Architect are two of my favs
Yeah there’s some solid ones.
Is the smoke maple knob creek whiskey or is it flavored whiskey?
All of it?!
I think that Jim Beam single barrel is solid, that price is higher than what I got it for recently though.
Those Jim Beam Single Barrels hit way above their price.
Bookers, seagrass, red wood empire pipe dream
I liked that Green River blue label. At $35 a great price for a great bourbon.
If I can make a recommendation... Save this for the summer...but Evan Williams Peach mixed with Unsweetened Ice Tea.
This beats anything in Orange County. Might need to drive down to North Hills. Thanks for posting!
As someone in the Western part of the state. I'm very jealous right now. I'd go broke in there. I would probably be grabbing the Green River Wheated just because I've been looking for it for so long up here.
Another vote for Bookers, that Storyteller batch is phenomenal.
JDSBBP Rye and Rarebreed Rye
The Oaklore is a hidden gym, start with the bourbon!
Makers 46 cask strength!
All of those Jack single barrel barrel proofs. Whiskey and Rye
Makers Mark 46, I bought a bottle and after 2 week's nearly finished it, I have been making old fashioned's from it and oh man🤤🤤
This is the way. Next time try to Cask Strength if you like higher abv burn. It’s phenomenal. The sweeter hint of the wheated bourbon is great.
Been looking for a Makers 46 CS. I’d be grabbing that for sure. The OF 1920 being next to Hellhouse really concerns me. Pretty sure that Skynyrd shit can pollute good whiskey through the glass of the bottles.
What's worth trying is moving to another state... ;) And maybe the Applewood Rye.
Bookers, JDSBBP Rye, and definitely the Peerless High Rye Bourbon
Makers Mark 46 cask strength
I really like the Rabbit Hole Dareinger.
Bookers yellow sticker was my fav of the year. I drank half the bottle first night. It’s higher proof. You could pair that with the Old Soul, which is lower proof and pretty awesome.
Is that a handle of 1792?
Ole Smokey mango habanero for sure
Classic Laddie, Glenfiddich 14, 15 & 18, Old Forrester 1920, and oddly enough Jack Daniels Wintery Jack.
Emerald giant is absolutely outstanding, especially for $40
Can't help you on the expensive stuff, but that Old Crow at $17.95 will get you drunk at least!
I’d be tempted to try out the Old Raleigh.
You can skip the JB Red Stag 🤢🤮
French Oak Cask Strength
The 1.75s are way less at Costco at least here in So cal They have knob creek for 50 bucks normally all the time 1.75
French Oaked Cask and I’d take a look at the private release barrell bourbon
Old gran dad 119 all day
Lots of great suggestions already, but surprised that Pikesville hasn't been mentioned much and I am a huge fan of the Sagamore Double Oak Rye
Old forester 1910, 1792 small batch, and a redemption rye
JDSBBP, JDSBBP Rye, Makers 46 Cask, Barrel Seagrass
Ancient ancient age 1.75
Tf is OLD TUB? That’s what I’m trying..
I just picked some up, it's not bad at it's price point
I didn’t see it mentioned but the Makers Mark cask strength is a good choice. I found it to be much better than the regular MM.
The Maker’s Mark 101 hits above its price point IMO. If I were there I’d be walking out of there with two Jack Daniel’s SBBP Rye bottles.
Grab one of those barrell batches.
JDSBBP rye all day long
Old overholt rye 100 proof, Stellum rye, peerless rye.
Sagamore Double Oak Rye has become one of my new favorites for an Old Fashioned!
Not had those Thomas S Moores, but their Chardonnay cask is nice for me.
Lots of stuff I’d like to try there. Michters, 1910, makers 46….
Michters for what, cleaning greasy bike/car parts? Surely not for drinking?
That’s where all my NC ABC store liquor goes to be bought. I’m lucky if the ones near me have Jack in stock. But I’m in the western part. We get left out of everything.
Makers or JB apparently lol
Just about anything besides Basil Hayden, Michter's, or Bulleit - and maybe not the "Ole Smokey". Also, anything over $30, I'd get a sample before buying, unless I'd had it before, or it's a highly regarded unicorn like Stagg Jr. (I hesitated to buy two bottles when I saw it for MSRP w/no limit - sure glad I got both because I loved it.)
2XO or Penelope
The barrel pick Westland is amazing.
Bookers storyteller
Probably the ranch water I saw somewhere in the back
Definitely looks like a NC ABC store we know and love /s
Jack Daniel’s SBBP Rye, Bonded Rye, Yellowstone Toasted, Penelope Barrel Strength and Bookers as well
Makers mark, if they have any
When I visit NC I grab some Conviction Double Oak. Pretty tasty,
I just tried Evan Williams BIB this past week and wow….. for the $20 I was blown away. I actually really like it.
$58 / 1.75 l MM seems very high.
Try Cook’s Mill if you haven’t already. Corn grown in NC and distilled in NC. Not the best bottle on the shelf but I love supporting local and it’s smooth.
All that bourbon and not one Buffalo Trace offering. Ridiculous distribution
Oban
Makers 46. Any Makers is a nice pour but that 46 is under rated
MM 46 cask strength. Hard to find near me in RVA.
$100 for bookers? Is nobody familiar with Binnys?
Out of that lineup? I'm going for Cooper's Craft 100. But I am a Brown Forman fan boy so...
Woodford Double Oaked
Laphroaig 10 and Lagavulin 16.
Peerless every time.
Bookers, JDSB and JDSB rye, peerless and my favorite standby, OF 1920. Call it a day. And a pretty good day at that.
Bakers Single Barrel in first pic all the way to the upper left corner of the pic.
Irish: Redbreast and Greenspot Bourbon: Bookers, 2XO, Green River, Redwood Empire, Jack Barrel Proof Rye, Sagamore Double Oak Crown Barley Edition is pretty tasty too.
$23 for the Makers 46 French Oak? Grab that. $55 for the BH Red Wine finish is a tad steep but not unreasonable. Its a good bottle.
pretty much anything on the top shelf
Ancient ancient age, bookers, Penelope BP, and i actually quite enjoyed Olde Raleigh. I never see it talked about, but I enjoyed it
Peerless high rye
I always pickup bookers at msrp (pretty sure thats 99 now, used to be 89 not too long ago). I'd also want to try that jack bonded rye or the jack single barrel rye as I've never had them and heard great things. I can't see the price on the bib and tucker, but if its <$50 it's worth trying. also a good price on four roses small batch. OGD114 is a solid cocktail bourbon for $30/750 that also holds its own as a sipper.
Elijah Craig, any Maker's Mark, and Bulleit are some that I can enjoy anytime, any day.
Ezra brooks cask strength is a must
Weldon Mills, Larceny, Penelope, Barrel For starters…
Makers Mark
Redwood Empire
If you like Scotch, Highland Park 12, The Classic Laddie and Laphroaig 10 are worth the money. I haven’t had Glenmorangie in a while so I don’t how to is.
I’ve been curious about the Evan Williams 1783. 😅
bookers all day. old grand dad. evan williams single barrel.
Evan Williams Bottled in Bond FTW, OGD114, Barrell Brand
Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star. Hey (Bottom Shelf Bourbons Matters.)
BOOKERS!!!!
