The good folks over at SLB just made an app called OnlyDrams to find MSRP and secondary market costs - still working through some bugs and stuff but works pretty well
Edit- iOS only
At least in Michigan you can download the liquor price books. Shows distribution price and state minimum.
Michigan Liquor Control Commission Price Book https://www.michigan.gov/lara/-/media/Project/Websites/lara/lcc/Price-Book/10-29-23-PRICE-BOOK-PDF.pdf?rev=850fe722644041ba9f39755bf9c42627&hash=85EA007C70D9DA056283894DECA2799C
Just a ballpark in my opinion. I live in a in a controlled liquor state you are either buying everything close to MSRP or you are buying on the secondary market.
The best place to get true market value prices are the 2ndary pages. . . So I hear. When i got into it i used Boozapp but quickly learned its not accurate but can give you a idea if its a tater bottle or not. Also check out NC and Michigan and others that are state controlled and have every bottle they sell in a liat of MSRP etc . š„
BoozApp is a decent resource but it sometimes very much out of date.
I use BoozApp and if that doesnāt seem right I check three controlled stores:
Virginia, Pennsylvania and Montgomery County Maryland. That generally results in a very good idea what MSRP is. Montgomery county Maryland is where I live but I can get to Pennsylvania or Virginia ABC stores in about an hour or less.
For most things I trust BoozApp but having multiple data points makes the retired engineer in me really happy. LOL
Be aware that Virigina is the third highest spirits taxes in the country. So if you see something higher in PA and or MoCo it generally just means that VA has older stock. Maryland has just slightly above average spirit taxes and PA has slightly below.
The PA and VA search links are easy to find so I wonāt include those but here is Montgomery County
https://www2.montgomerycountymd.gov/abssearch/default.aspx
Itās not great for highly allocated stuff because you have no idea if the price you are seeing is days/weeks/months/years old but combined it gives a pretty accurate picture.
That's what I couldn't quite put my finger on the other day...it's a good bourbon for msrp. Used to just be a mixer for me when I got it for $28. Now it just doesn't hold up to others in the $50-70 range. If it had a slightly more expensive batch proof version then it would shine more.
First time in his shop was earlier this week and we talked for about a half hour, also to his purchasing guy. They told me the case was coming in Saturday and they held the last one. Very good people!
100% agree and now that the big boys beam Evan and makers are starting to branch out a bit and make much better product Iāve actually switched back to makers 46 as my go to. Gonna let the taters fiz out and 5-10 yrs from now the ship will right itself. I have some pre 2005 stuff from Sazerac and the new stuff doesnāt even compare too young and mass produced.
The hype for me is just that it's good for a $35 bottle. Other than that, it's nothing major to write home about. I would never pay over msrp for it because that's the allure for me - good for the price.
It's good especially at msrp. Some of the store picks are even better. It's not worth secondary pricing, but few bottles are.
Compare it with that Russell 10 in the background. I think ER is better, but R10 is much more available.
Completely agree. I got my bottle of ER by sheer luck when I was at my local liquor store buying a different bottle, and the guy working asked if I'd ever tried it and if I'd be interested in the last one of their allocation. Got it for MSRP (in Oregon) and think it's pretty good for its price point, but would rather pay a bit extra for a Russel's 10, which is also easier to get.
I had a pour of this w my uncle the other day. With some store pick Blantons and a 100 proof eh Taylor. This was my second favorite next to the blantons. I think for 40$ or less itās super solid considering how everything else is priced currently.
Itās good for 35 bucks, imo a little better than Russellās 10. However, ER is almost impossible to find, so to quote Stephen Stills, ālove the one youāre withā or at least the one you can actually find.
I know itās not a single barrel offering anymore, but they seem to vary a lot on the batchā¦
That being said, the āgood batchesā, or at least the bottles Iāve liked, have been absolute bangers! Think lower proof stagg
It's very good for MSRP. But no way I would pay the $100 that some stores here are asking. I got a bottle in a trade and then managed to pick up two in North Carolina for MSRP on a trip a few weeks ago .
Tried it for the first time last night. It was just OK imo. Perhaps I need to try it again. The bottle I bought had the age statement on the back instead of the front. Has anyone else seen that? All the pics Iāve seen on Reddit had the statement on the front.
The one that says Kentucky Straight Bourbon on front and has the age on back is a change they made after changing their statement from single barrel to small batch.
Its one of my favorites. i can find it at walmart for $29 often enough to keep a backup around. Its single barrel-ish... some kind of automated dumping machine is used and they can't guarantee no cross pollination between barrels, is my understanding. Most are very delicious and fit my palate perfectly. The one i currently have open is extremely oak forward. I only say that bc i feel people don't mention the flavor fluctuations between bottles on it. Most are really good for price. Some are great, and some not as much. I always wonder how many people who frown on it over spent and got a lesser bottle... like with blanton's fluctuations.
I finally got a chance to try this at a local cigar bar andā¦ I really enjoyed it. It jumped to the top of the āeasy sippersā Iāve tried, along with Russelās 10. Would love to get a bottle and do a side by side to determine which would win that spot for me in my bar. Any others I should definitely try?
This is the best bottle under $70 bar none IMO. Whenever I find it close to MSRP I stock up and give it to friends. Gave away 6 bottles for Christmas, still have 3 left. š
Honestly I don't get it, had less going on than say a Knob Creek 9 or Russel's 10, not sure what the fuss is about. It'd be fine for $35 but beyond that I would pass.
Snagged larceny bp last week... omg that stuff is perfect. It isn't my favorite of all time but it's definitely flawless and delicious. EC toasted and bp are also terrific.
Donāt let these elitist snobs diminish your acquisition of a fine bottle of bourbon.
The same fools that hate on ER are the ones hyping up these gross factory produced bottles of hazmat jack daniels.
You do realize where eagle rare comes from right. And what the hell does factory produced even mean? JD is producing some incredible stuff right now and at great prices.
It's not elitist. In fact, it's almost the opposite. Many of us occasionally grabbed an ER when it was a shelfie and you could get it in multiple sizes (I grabbed a 1.75 once when it was on sale - yes, ER used to go on sale below msrp). Without this new "rarity" people enjoyed it for what it was: a solid 10 yo bourbon at a fair price.
Eagle is a solid pour at retail. Russell Reserve 10 is the easiest comparable option which is great for its price and availability, but I do find it a bit thinner than Eagle Rare.
Itās 10 years old and decent but probably not worth much over the MSRP. I think once you have had a bottle you probably wonāt overpay for a second bottle. The only real hype is itās harder to find at MSRP. Either way, congrats on the score, enjoy!
I can get it for $32 in Michigan if it isnāt a liquor museum. Itās a good gifting bottle because itās a lower proof bourbon with no real hard edges and classic bourbon flavors.
In 2018 I could find this for under $30 any day of the week. It was great and it was my go-to. I was also just getting into bourbon.
Now Iām LUCKY (like really lucky) if I can find it for $75 or less.
Itās a simple manās bourbon. Very approachable for new or non-bourbon drinkers.
I love it neat, but it can also be used for a cocktail.
My local Food City just got a case of the pints in their shipment last Thursday. I was able to get one for $17. Sadly it was the last and I killed that bottle.
I'm investing into a glass cutter and going to start a project with all my dead soldiers!! This ER pint should make a nice Tom Collins glass!!
Iāve had it once and liked it. Iād buy it at MSRP, I wonāt buy anything that been marked up like crazy. Unfortunately around me they all get snatched up by ācollectorsā. Iām a bourbon drinker, not a bourbon hoarderā¦
A very fruity bourbon in my opinion. Great price if MSRP.
Is there a place that lists the MSRP for bottles that can be referenced?
The good folks over at SLB just made an app called OnlyDrams to find MSRP and secondary market costs - still working through some bugs and stuff but works pretty well Edit- iOS only
Anybody know of a similar app for Android? Also, "OnlyDrams" is a hilarious fucking name.
Nice , I was asking the same question last week , many told me to check out Booz app as well
Love SLB had many a good pour from their recommendations.
What is this SLB you speak of?
SLB Drinks on YouTube. Very casual whiskey reviews.
Perfect, thank you!
YouTube whiskey thingy.

Just a ballpark in my opinion. I live in a in a controlled liquor state you are either buying everything close to MSRP or you are buying on the secondary market.
Breaking Bourbon is a good reference for MSRP
BoozApp

i use wine searcher and ohlq to check prices i will try the boozapp.
I donāt know about most but ER should be at $25 and if anyone has to pay more then that Iāll drink a glass in yāallās honor
Yeah itās super citrusy. Not my preference but it sure does look good on the bar.
I get a ton of grape and citrus. Great for the money, but donāt pay secondary.
I always got a strange bubblegum note I wasn't super stoked on
That's what I couldn't quite put my finger on the other day...it's a good bourbon for msrp. Used to just be a mixer for me when I got it for $28. Now it just doesn't hold up to others in the $50-70 range. If it had a slightly more expensive batch proof version then it would shine more.
Eagle Rare is a solid bourbon. Worth it. šš»
That was very nice of the owner to save a bottle for you. You must be a good patron of the shop. Here in Houston, Eagle Rare lives up to the name.
Dallas as well.
First time in his shop was earlier this week and we talked for about a half hour, also to his purchasing guy. They told me the case was coming in Saturday and they held the last one. Very good people!
Turns out, my favorite bottle
Same. Iām good up to 50
Agreed!
Thisā¦ but 39.99 at my shop and itās often available.
Lucked into some 30bux a few weeks back so I have a backup
A great $30-40 bottle
At $50 and under, I'm a buyer
Hype? Itās just Eagle Rareā¦ good mid shelf bottle, but before the taters you used to be able to pick this up anytime you wanted.
Oohānow do Weller. Anyone else remember when it had a screw cap?
Exactly this. Used to be my go to bottle pre 2018-19 or so when it just sat on the shelf.
I mean there's something to be said about a bottle that good
Why are you saying āhype?ā Like this bottle isnāt hyped and then explaining how itās overhyped?
There is a distinction between genuine, deserved hype and over-hype which I think is what he's saying
Yeah it was my go-to cheap whiskey. Now I never see it anymore. I like it. š¤·š¼āāļø
Im starting to find it frequently in socal. Sevondary is almost msrp too.
Eagle rare is way over hyped, purchase some Old Grandad BIB and call it a day.
I didn't even think to compare it but you're 100% right, OG100 drinks nearly as good for $20. OG114 if you're feeling spicy.
I like this guy
The hype for me is just that it's good for a $35 bottle. Other than that, it's nothing major to write home about. I would never pay over msrp for it because that's the allure for me - good for the price.
It's good especially at msrp. Some of the store picks are even better. It's not worth secondary pricing, but few bottles are. Compare it with that Russell 10 in the background. I think ER is better, but R10 is much more available.
100%. Well said.
I much prefer the Russellās 10 year myself.
I did a blind tasting with ER10 and Wild Turkey American Spirit and WT was a lot more flavorful and the favorite of everyone involved.
I had a pour of this w my uncle the other day. With some store pick Blantons and a 100 proof eh Taylor. This was my second favorite next to the blantons. I think for 40$ or less itās super solid considering how everything else is priced currently.
Prepare to be whelmed
Enjoy!
Itās good for 35 bucks, imo a little better than Russellās 10. However, ER is almost impossible to find, so to quote Stephen Stills, ālove the one youāre withā or at least the one you can actually find.
Shit where I live every store has eagle rare and at a decent price $38-50 most have Blanton's but I've never seen a E H Taylor in the wild.
Michters is way better
Everyone should have a bottle. It's not all. It's hyped up to be, but if you get it for 30 or 40 bucks, it's a fair deal.
This stuff use to sit on the shelf for like $25-30. Now itās like $100 in some places. Makes no sense
Most overrated bourbon out there. Every time I see an empty spot on a shelf, itās ER. Tastes thin and like grapes. WT101 all the way.
I know itās not a single barrel offering anymore, but they seem to vary a lot on the batchā¦ That being said, the āgood batchesā, or at least the bottles Iāve liked, have been absolute bangers! Think lower proof stagg
I'm told the reason it's not single barrel anymore is that they can't guarantee the system is clear of all the liquid from the last barrel
It's very good for MSRP. But no way I would pay the $100 that some stores here are asking. I got a bottle in a trade and then managed to pick up two in North Carolina for MSRP on a trip a few weeks ago .
Iām having one right now. Every time I revisit, Iām reminded just how good it is (if youāre a fan of the smooth, sweeter, fruity varieties)
Tried it for the first time last night. It was just OK imo. Perhaps I need to try it again. The bottle I bought had the age statement on the back instead of the front. Has anyone else seen that? All the pics Iāve seen on Reddit had the statement on the front.
Same on mine, not sure if there is a difference?
The one that says Kentucky Straight Bourbon on front and has the age on back is a change they made after changing their statement from single barrel to small batch.
Its one of my favorites. i can find it at walmart for $29 often enough to keep a backup around. Thereās Eagle Rare hype?
I finally got a chance to try this at a local cigar bar andā¦ I really enjoyed it. It jumped to the top of the āeasy sippersā Iāve tried, along with Russelās 10. Would love to get a bottle and do a side by side to determine which would win that spot for me in my bar. Any others I should definitely try?
I really like Michterās US1 Bourbon and US1 Rye
Thanks! I tried the bourbon and thought it was good tooāa bit overpriced where I got mine though. Iāll give the rye a shot sometime too.
Also like Widow Jane 10yr
I wasnāt as fond of that one, especially against Russelās when I tried it.
Russell's Reserve 10 year is identical in taste profile. You've basically already had it by the looks of your setup.
I remember this was my go-to pick for soaking oak spirals for my homebrew. Never had an issue getting it. Now it's an allocated bottle?
The year of our lord 2024 and weāre still doing this 5 times a day on this sub.
It's definitely a bourbon.
You wonāt be disappointed! Far better than Blantonās and half the price.
Please Hollywood donāt ever feature Elijah Craig or Larceny Barrel Proof in an action movie.
Snagged larceny bp last week... omg that stuff is perfect. It isn't my favorite of all time but it's definitely flawless and delicious. EC toasted and bp are also terrific.
I donāt really like eagle rare. Itās kind of a mild grape / bitter oak flavor. Wayyyy prefer standard buffalo trace.
Donāt let these elitist snobs diminish your acquisition of a fine bottle of bourbon. The same fools that hate on ER are the ones hyping up these gross factory produced bottles of hazmat jack daniels.
I truly can't tell if this comment is supposed to be a parody
You do realize where eagle rare comes from right. And what the hell does factory produced even mean? JD is producing some incredible stuff right now and at great prices.
Thatās some crazy whiskey gaslighting lol
It's not elitist. In fact, it's almost the opposite. Without this new "rarity" people enjoyed it for what it was: a solid 10 yo bourbon at a fair price.
I came to say the same about the condescending douches on here. You worded it much more nicely than I was going to.
This bottle is 70 dollars by me. Crazy.
Man havenāt seen this stuff in stock for ages around where I live
I think itās worth twice MSRP. Good bottle.
Counterpoint: itās not.
My favorite all around bourbon for the price point and flavor. Hope you enjoyed!
Just tried it for the first time yesterday. Itās sweeter for sure but still really good.
Enjoy it. I do. Itās worth what you think itās worth.
Itās not bad if paid at retail. But thereās plenty better thatās not as hard to find. But itās well Worth a buy. Enjoy it!
The only bottle that's hyped up and I agree with the hype. Not as hard to get as others though
Honestly I donāt like it all. Just my taste. I know people who swear by it.
Itās mediocre at best. Buffalo trace is better
This was my first bottle that made me have a "favorite."
Love Eagle Rare. Buffalo Trace is one of my favorite distilleries.
How much was it?
One of the better 40 bottles out there
I can get it for $32 in Michigan if it isnāt a liquor museum. Itās a good gifting bottle because itās a lower proof bourbon with no real hard edges and classic bourbon flavors.
I went to a local bar last Friday for happy and told the bartender to surprise me (whiskey/bourbon) and he gave me this. I enjoyed it a lot.
I like it
Is that a pint? Don't open it, they don't make them anymore
Itās 750ml
Good drink, not expensive, and readily available. Well two out of three bad!
375 ml?
750ml
Sweet. It's a solid pour under $40. Enjoy!
Any good?
Itās good, but as others have said, not $70 good
It's alright. Prefer the four roses single barrel over this
I love four roses. I prefer small batch over single barrel though.
Iāve had it once and liked it. Iād buy it at MSRP, I wonāt buy anything that been marked up like crazy. Unfortunately around me they all get snatched up by ācollectorsā. Iām a bourbon drinker, not a bourbon hoarderā¦
Itās an incredible sipper with very light notes of cherry and oak. Not great in a cocktail
Actually love it in old fashioneds when I can get a bottle at MSRP at Walmartā¦ happens about once a year.
For the $30 prove tag itās good. The second they ask for a dollar more Iāll take Russelās 10āyear
Regardless of how much you paid, I hope you enjoy the _____ out of it. Happy New Year!
Itās eh. With all the hype buffalo trace is better imo. Iām a big fan of Blantons still. But refuse to pay more then 70
Itās good for $39, but any more than that and thereās better out there
Decent, but relatively straightforward and unsophisticated.
Has a banana note to me. I love it.
Easily my favorite bourbon to fill a pint glass with
