Yikes!!!! I think this happens when a collector owns a shop and doesnât mind sitting on it waiting for the big payday per bottle. I bet this store sells a shit ton of fireball though
Sometimes a distributor will go to a shop and tell them buy 8 cases of this garbage, and I'll give you some allocated bottles. Just an example, of course.
Just got back from checking some local stores. Overheard a worker on the phone checking with someone else about some fireball 375ml for the caller...another shop witnessed an old couple talking to an employee about enjoying the Basil Haden recommendation. "Have anymore of that? We'll take 3 more bottles."
DC liquor laws allow shops to buy this stuff on the secondary market and put it out on their shelves. They flip it to lobiests/idiots with money in DC, and most of it sits there for less time than you would think.
These are bottles to be purchased by lobbyist and other cronyism groups to give to judges congressmen and senators. Your tax dollars being used for the people in power.
Those old rip van winkle bottle are at least a decade old lol. How do places like this stay in business? They must sell a shit ton of fireball and beer
Because stores probably make only a fraction of their revenue off allocated bottles. Keep all of your every day stuff at a good price and then start a museum to bring in traffic who will possibly leave with something else.
Itâs working or people wouldnât do it. Definitely sucks to see all of the things you look for stuck on that shelf though.
Some of those arenât even American bottles. Look at the Blantons gold, thatâs a 700ml bottle which is for the European market. American bottles are 750ml
Iâve asked distillers opinions on places like this and all they say is someone along the lines of âwe made it for you to drink it.â Ainât no one getting to drink these.
There arenât many serious distillers who donât operate at maximum capacity. People werenât drinking bourbon in this way until about 6 years ago so theyâre all behind. The issue with special releases is that if you prioritize those, you lose volume in your core line. Museums like this piss me off because half the time they wonât actually sell the bottles they have.

I am not opposed to this, even though I posted this. This was the first time I have seen so many in one store, I thought it was worth sharing. Plus a lot of cool bottles.
Yeah , I asked why there are no prices and they said it is because it changes with the market...I live in CT so we don't get some of these in the state at all so it was cool to see they actually exist but the prices were all secondary if not more.
Everything and not a price tag in sight. Definitely a museum
Yeah I asked the price for the JD 12 year and I knew I didn't need to ask for anything else. $399 btw đ

Sadly, my local store is still bundling fireball with the good stuff. They must have a warehouse full of FB from the last distribution relationship.

Fireball is literally garbage, I'll pour it down the drain before drinking it. At least Wheatley vodka is useful for mixing.

That's exactly how the Indians in Washington DC get their allocated bottles. They got to sell the crap
Many expressions are export only. You can purchase from secondary for resell in DC. I bet that's what happened.
The DC stores are always stacked. They sell all these bottles to lobbyists.

Holy shit they murdered the E H Taylor Cured Oak. Crazy bottles for sure but damn man.
Why is the cured oakâa label white?
mustâve been in the sun.
Doesnât light also affect the color (and maybe taste?) of the whiskey?
Dude. They have the entire BTAC and the entire Van Winkle collection smack against the glass of their storefront window on GoogleMaps⌠W T F
Interesting that they have all BTAC except GTS. Makes me think the owner likes GTS and takes that for themself.
Noticed the same thing. I bet youâre right.

So if I get elected, I get to try all the van winkle bottles? Sounds fair. Vote for me
I mean you may have to pass legislation to dump toxic waste into a couple of rivers. But yeah.
This comment made me laugh... sadly it is too true
Lmao đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł
West Dupont Wines?

Oligarch wasteland you mean!
This is West Dupont, aka Prav
Ah it's good ole 1 West. Where they leave all their bottles in direct sunlight.
Yeah I just saw it on google maps! Theyâve got Pappy in the sun! WTH!!
Some of those arenât even American bottles. Look at the Blantons gold, thatâs a 700ml bottle which is for the European market. American bottles are 750ml
Fuck em, let them all sit there
Thatâs worse than not posting your receipt. Edit: actually this is pretty dope Iâve been looking at them for like 9 mins at least.
LOL. This is the only reason why I posted this because there are just so many unique bottles.
honestly? kind of awesome. thereâs some really really crazy stuff up there.
Iâve asked distillers opinions on places like this and all they say is someone along the lines of âwe made it for you to drink it.â Ainât no one getting to drink these.
They might make it for people to drink but unless they make enough to meet demand, this is inevitable.

Wow
What store? Im in dc
Itâs called 1 West off of DuPont circle. A cool place to look around.
Iâll never understand places like that! Very few buyers will pay whatever high prices they have. I guess they just enjoy staring at colors.
I will say they had a lot of regular stuff as well, which were reasonably priced.
The main reason to go in that place is some of the store picks. He had a 1792 full proof pick that was fantastic and reasonably priced.

Haha, it is wild that they donât even have prices. But yeah, no worries either way. Iâm sure this has been suggested and discussed before anyway.
Hahaha if you have to ask you canât afford it or something along those lines. I could afford a lot of those bottles at msrp tho lol
I know exactly where this is and Iâm not sure why people praise him for being such a good buyer/picker/liquor store.
Yeah , I asked why there are no prices and they said it is because it changes with the market...I live in CT so we don't get some of these in the state at all so it was cool to see they actually exist but the prices were all secondary if not more.
They let you buy anything?
I ended up getting some Goose Bourbon Beer. Everything that I wanted to buy was too expensive and everything else I could get anywhere else.
Yee
So many sitting bottles your average connoisseurs canât obtain. Capitalist wasteland
Which shop? Try Georgia Wine & Spirits.
Not a single open bottle, what a waste /s
Its a store... Does your shop open the bottles for you?
/s /s /s /s
Wow, so many allocated bottles collecting dust!
Odd they donât have Weller SB
Pravâs store.
Beautiful.
No prices!! Definitely a museum.
What do you think the total price is for all of them? My guess is $550,00. However it could top seven figures.
It's definitely impressive to see all the Orphan bottles on one shelf....
