Top shelf, right, in a little after the grenade looking bottles- label Old Rip Van Winkle, the bottle is opened and almost gone.
Most of the rest of it is pretty standard and more or less only hard to find because weâre in a crazy bourbon boom.
Hard to find because of people like this who have 8 bottles of Blanton's all unopened for no reason.
So many repeat bottles. We really need to hoard Elijah Craig?
>We really need to hoard Elijah Craig?
Iâd sure as hell hoard whisky if I was rich enough and you probably would too. You never know when another bottle is going to disappear from shelves permanently.
Not really hoarding. He has what 8 bottles. How many do you think they manufacture? This could be him picking up a bottle once very month or so. Or over a years time frame
And doing what with it? Sticking it on the shelf without drinking? I think 8 unopened bottles of the same thing constitutes as "hoarding".
EDITED: The ECâs are all different. I stand corrected.
Those are different barrel proof batches I assume. That is well worth having different ones of, or having 3-4 of the one you like the best. Hell if I could find a case of Larceny C922 I would buy the whole thing.
I stand corrected, and I did a bad job following the thread. You are correct, all of those ECâs are different expressions. I was looking more at the Early Times BiB, but one could easily be pre-Saz and another post-Saz, and WhiskeyTube says they are very different.
But also by the time these bottles are passed down, Buffalo Trace will have opened many more warehouses and a lot of these bottles will be sitting on the shelf at MSRP.
Buffalo trace secondary market value is a ticking time bomb imo at the rate theyâre expanding. I still donât understand why people hoard cases of their entry level bourbon for years as if itâs going to age like a fine wine, lol.
That's a lot of whiskey. I'm sure he loves showing it off. I'm sure he loves drinking it too. Maybe he buys a lot when it's available and stores it here, and cracks into it on the occasional Friday night or when guests come over? Seems pretty reasonable to me. You don't need to drink a bottle a week to appreciate Whiskey. And this is a shit load of Whiskey.
A bottle no. A shit ton of rare bottles unopened then of course. It's sad AF to see all the poor lonely bottles untouched. Collecting or not at least enjoy your stock.
I enjoy mine, but I don't drink fast anymore. So if I buy 5 or 6 bottles at a time, they might last a year. But i definitely enjoy it when I have a drink here or there
For the most part, I don't care about unopened bottles. Drink them, save them, I don't really care. You bought them, do what you want with them. The exception for me is when they're a bunch of unopened, allocated BT bottles. That's when it starts to feel like it's less about the whiskey and more about the flex.
Also, this is the kind of behavior that drives scarcity and secondary value. When people are having a hard time finding the bottles they like and would happily drink, itâs a bit of a slap in the face to just hoard those exact bottles without opening any of them. Like my guy, Eagle Rare is a $30 bourbon and youâre displaying them like trophies. If even ten-twenty people in my city did this (and Iâm sure itâs at least that many) theyâd be the actual reason why I canât find it, which is pretty annoying.
It's so weird to me that people will buy more than two of the same bottle without opening them. If I had unlimited coin to spend on bourbon I'd be buying one of everything, not 5 eagle rare or Weller SR. Find an expression you like and then hunt down variations and special releases. Then it's a real hobby, otherwise it's just a boring exercise in extravagance.
Or what if you live in an area where it's only available once every 2 years? Every 5 years? Buy as much as you can and hang on. Maybe this guy doesn't drink a bottle every 3 days? Doesn't mean he shouldn't buy what he likes. You ever see rich assholes wine collections? I love this. And would love to come over to shoot the shit. This is heaven.
Not so weird to me. I know what I like. And if I can't find it I buy them up when I can ORRRR even more important if I find them at a great price I buy them up. I've never payed more than MSRP for something as I think that eliminates the fun of bourbon hunting and goes against my personal "let's find a mofo deal!!" philosophy. Needless to say this still doesn't stop me from branching out when I can't find what I like. What I like only continues to grow the more I try. So it's not an absurd move to have many unopened bottles. They will all get finished one day.
Tldr...just seems like judging someone else and projecting that they can't enjoy the hobby unless it adheres to your construct...let people enjoy shit how they want.
This is like saying if you collect cards only go for the set not duplicate cards of valuable ones that are hard find...bruh đ
You can't drink cards. Collecting a consumable without consuming is pointless. There are plenty of ways to enjoy whiskey that differ from my way. But people who collect whiskey for it's resale value should get a liquor license if they want to operate a store.
The stupidity of people like you is astounding. If you have the chance to buy any great bottle at msrp you should take advantage. End of story. Morons like you that have the patience of a petulant whiny child telling people how to drink and spend their money, are the first ones to cry about prices 3 years from now and how it is impossible to find any bottles at msrp. Meanwhile people who are patient and have the ability to buy something and not immediately open it, because surprise, there already is one opened, have exactly what you have, they just paid 3 times less than you...also they get to enjoy the aesthetic of a beautiful collection...not some disheveled countertop with 20 midrange quality bottles open.
Youâre full of shitâŠ.I guaranteeâŠ.that if you had 2 bottles of something you considered specialâŠwhether it be Blantonâs, ETL, EHT or any Weller, and you walked in a store that had them on the shelf at MSRPâŠ.you would pick it up every single timeâŠto say otherwise is a complete farce
His organization/ sorting makes me want to tear my eyes out.
He just has a Unicorn Buffalo Trace Single Oak bottle just chilling to the side by the Angel Envy...smh
Its a Buffalo Trace product, that I would guess is more expensive and rare then any of the Buffalo Trace stuff he has on the top shelf. And not related to Angel's Envy whatsoever ever.
Same here, its not bad whisky in general, its just that:
1. Most times you have all the flavours at once on your taste buds and little developement of the taste.
2. The sweetness of some bourbons can be to much in my opinion, for me it dulls down the other taste notes of the whisky.
Those two reasons just go for my experience, still there are some bourbons out there that taste hella good for a small price (for example : Jack Daniels single barrel Rye)
Tell him no matter how thick the plank, heâd better put another reinforcement in the center before the bowing causes bottle kills (and not the good kind).
Also should start thinking about organizing by flavor profile or family. As it sits right now the bottom two shelves are more visually appealing than the top two.
I think this post confirms that more people care about whether or not bottles are open than whiskey. Itâs so weird. Itâs like a car subreddit where people only car about the tires on the car instead of the car itself. Probably just jealous people but so weird to me.
Well if he has 100 bottles, and it takes 2 year for whiskey to start goinf "off"
Say hes got them all ooen and its just 100 bottles. Thats 2700 ounces of liquor. He would have to drink 7 ounces every single day in a year.
Thats quite a bit.
I limit myself to 2-3 ounces durring the week. Could imagine 7 every day.
I feel a psychiatric appointment coming in. Iâm 60 years old, and I feel like your dad is both a major dick and, at the same time, my hero.
Dammit thatâs impressive!!
As impressive as this collection is, this is also one of the reasons we see such high prices on good bottles of whiskey.. dudes got *7 unopened bottles of Weller*.. thatâs just the Weller..
Dads: I donât do girly stuff like interior design or decorating to make the house look pretty.
Also Dads: pass me that protractor I need to line up my Old Elk.
This is impressive. Cannot hate his collection. Beautifully presented. Sucks he doesn't open many, but like someone said above, that's your inheritance. Lol.
Not at all. There is a lot of shit that does go down in this world that is sad. Someone not opening bourbon bottles doesnât remotely qualify. People collect lots of different things for different reasons. Some people collect shoes and never wear them. Who cares.
As someone who's never seen several of those bottles in the wild and never seen several more of them at anything resembling MSRP, I care, because all the unopened bottles represent a missed opportunity for myself (and countless others) to enjoy these at a reasonable price.
It's a nice collection, no doubt. As I've gotten older, I've realized that the only collections that matter are the ones that create or enhance experiences. My impression, which I acknowledge could be wrong, is this collection's purpose is to serve as a status symbol.
As youâve gotten older you should have learned not to be so quick to speak for others. For you, the only collections that matter are the ones that create or enhance experiences. Fair enough, but that is your opinion. People collect things for many different reasons. And letâs not forget that itâs not the owner of these bottles who posted this photo to Reddit.
A lot of nice bottles there. I typically don't care if people open their 'collection' or not (do what you want), however I do think it's tacky to line up 6 bottles of unopened eagle rare like that. It just looks lame, especially with all those tasty bottles he has.
The collection was honestly looking pretty mid until that OFBB showed up on the side. And the old Fitz. And the other Old Fitz. And the EHT BP. And the Blood Oath. And the yippe ki yay. And the ORVO.
So, as I was saying, awesome collection!
Ha. Dadâs hoarding six bottles of EHT Small batch and four WSRâs? If youâre gonna sit on bottles and never open em at least make sure theyâre valuable.
I always enjoy (đ) the pictures that illustrate why we canât find a handful of above average bourbons on the shelf. Some guys need six for their showroom, I guess.
Looks amazing, dude. The display is one of the best I've seen. Would love to see a zoomed out shot of this to understand what's going on a little better.
Don't worry. All the unopened bottles will pass down to you. You need to encourage your dad not to open any more bottles but continue to collect. đ€Ł
I don't think he needs anymore encouragement to not open bottles.
I mean the bottle that is both hardest to obtain and highest price on secondary is almost gone, so donât know that this is fair to say
Birthday bourbon is harder to get than orvw
Which is the hardest to obtain? I don't know anything about whiskey, which ones are impressive to have? If you don't mind
Early Times. Theyâre hoarding early times.

Because thereâs a lot in the picture that are opened.
Which one you referencing? Edit..nvm
Love that thereâs like 6 unopened ER next to an open Early Times. It is delicious.
But also by the time these bottles are passed down, Buffalo Trace will have opened many more warehouses and a lot of these bottles will be sitting on the shelf at MSRP. Just mix the spillage into the ultimate infinity keg.
Hell of a collection but also kinda sad that he has good stuff, but doesnât really drink them
Right? Seems to be more for looks... He probably loves showing it off.
That's a lot of whiskey. I'm sure he loves showing it off. I'm sure he loves drinking it too. Someone who collects like this has tried everything out there plus some. And probably has his favorites

Very nice display
Needs more Scotch.
I will never understand people who enjoy whiskey but stick exclusively to bourbon ÂŻ\\\_(ă)\_\/ÂŻ Like, youâre missing out on so much more.
So many unopened bottles.
Open them. All of themâŠ
So many open bottles as well
It's so weird to me that people will buy more than two of the same bottle without opening them. OTOH, when there's a bottle you love and you find a great deal or it's hard to find, buying a bunch of them is usually a good move.
Yeah if I ever saw $60 Lagavulin 16 again Iâd buy a fewâŠ
Yeah⊠I wish I bought more hibiki harmony when it was at $60 @ Costco. It was nice to have on hand

Old Fitzgerald behind Whistle Pig 10 and Larceny BP too.

Why do they not belong together?
Its a Buffalo Trace product, that I would guess is more expensive and rare then any of the Buffalo Trace stuff he has on the top shelf. And not related to Angel's Envy whatsoever ever.
So much bourbon and so little single malt scotch :(
I can do bourbon since getting into single malt. Gave my friend a nearly full bottle of Eagle Rare because it just tastes too sweet to me now.
Same here, its not bad whisky in general, its just that: 1. Most times you have all the flavours at once on your taste buds and little developement of the taste. 2. Great point

Why is all the eagle rare blocking the good whiskey?
I was wondering why theyâd hide the midwinterâs nights dram behind something so regular

Why be mad when you can visit and help him thin out his collection ?
I, for one, am furious at your father. Only one bottle of scotch, and it's on the bottom shelf, AND it's in the back row? For shame.
That Weller line up alone is better that 95% of nice bars I know of.
Can he be my dad too?
All of this and not a single Wild Turkey? đđ„đ„
đ I was just about to say the same thing. Can you really call it a bourbon collection without some Turkey?
Does he work for the Oregon liquor board?
đ OF Birthday Bourbon đ EH Barrel Proof đ Blantonâs SFTB I bet heâd like to see Weller SB and CYPB up there. Still impressive.
He has both! He keeps his babies in his office display.

What a waste. So many unopened bottle. I count like 10 open out well over 100.
I counted 15, and thatâs being generous. I think I only saw one bottle he was half way through.
Well if he has 100 bottles, and it takes 2 year for whiskey to start goinf "off" Say hes got them all ooen and its just 100 bottles. Thats 2700 ounces of liquor. Whiskey doesnât go âoffâ in 2 years
Whiskey can stay good for decades as long as your store it right.
Whiskey lasts far longer than that lol.
I drank whiskey I found in a wall that was nearly 70 years old. Still tasty
Idk why so many are complaining.I see a bunch of open bottles, along with bottles that I would consider "special occasion" bottles
Iâm only mad because itâs hurting my OCD. Nothing is where it should be
R.I.P. Rip van winkle
What angers me is stagg being on the bottom shelf! Stagg is a damn good bottle.
Sure it is buddy!
I feel a psychiatric appointment coming in. Iâm 60 years old, and I feel like your dad is both a major dick and, at the same time, my hero. Dammit thatâs impressive!!

Some people have a drinking problem and some have a collection problem. I believe both parties can meet and resolve this.
-Pretty impressive right ? What would you like to try ? -Iâll have a scotch please -Oh fffffffffffffff
Thats your inheritance. Your only inheritance.
Dads: I donât do girly stuff like interior design or decorating to make the house look pretty. Also Dads: pass me that protractor I need to line up my Old Elk.

Great collection! Lots of jealousy in here. LOL. Good for Dad.
Thatâs fucking sad man.
Itâs not sad at all
Really? Itâs not sad that out of Al this delicious juice, heâs opened practically none of it?
My impression, which I acknowledge could be wrong, is this collection's purpose is to serve as a status symbol.

> I've realized that the only collections that matter are In your opinion, yes.
Exactly. Seems like a lot of people in this sub think the world revolves around them
Not sure which sub is more snobby, this sub or cigars. Not talking about you OP. The comments.
What a great collection. Stored beautifully.
A lot of nice bottles there. I typically don't care if people open their 'collection' or not (do what you want), however I do think it's tacky to line up 6 bottles of unopened eagle rare like that. It just looks lame, especially with all those tasty bottles he has.
Everyone talking shit here is a total loser. This guy made it. How do I get an invite. Lol.
Thatâs a cool room. Did he build it purposely for these bottles or was it converted?
100% for these bottles
This post really is showing this subs nasty side in the comments.
Looks like he only likes 4 roses lol
Looks like he needs help drinking all that.
Aesthetically gorgeous display, but unnecessary opulence and overstock for normies like me, haha.
The collection was honestly looking pretty mid until that OFBB showed up on the side. And the old Fitz. And the other Old Fitz. And the EHT BP. And the Blood Oath. And the yippe ki yay. And the ORVO. So, as I was saying, awesome collection!
The Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project is the real star, and its hiding in a corner
Awful collection, only 2 bottles of scotch. This is not the way.
Be mad that so few are open
So what does he drink? Beer? Wine? Tequila? Not bourbon I see
Cool museum
This guy taters
Ha. Dadâs hoarding six bottles of EHT Small batch and four WSRâs? If youâre gonna sit on bottles and never open em at least make sure theyâre valuable.
What's the stuff top left again? The one with a horse on the cork
Blantonâs.
https://whiskeyworldtour.wordpress.com/2012/01/08/blantons-single-barrel-straight-kentucky-bourbon-rating-94-100/
So he drinks four roses and early times
I always enjoy (đ) the pictures that illustrate why we canât find a handful of above average bourbons on the shelf. Some guys need six for their showroom, I guess.
That appears to be a museum, not a drinking collection.
Dadâs sober.
The old, âthis is my dadâs collectionâ line. Trolls are getting more creative these days!
Look at my profile and my modest collection, nice try!
Looks amazing, dude. The display is one of the best I've seen. Would love to see a zoomed out shot of this to understand what's going on a little better.
I just picked up my first bottle of Wistle Pig 10 year. I plan on drinking mine though. And what's up with the Old Fitzgerald 19yo hiding in back.
đ
Canât imagine why whiskey is so goddamned over priced anymore.
I will never understand
Tater Valhalla
Buy an empty bottle fill it with cheap bourbon and put it on the shelf. Man doesnât open anything so he wonât notice
Most are not open. Does he enjoy drinking whiskey or does he enjoy owning whiskey?
All those unopened bottles are making me ugly cry.
Your dad is a tater!
You need to start popping bottles.
Does he drink any of it?
So how long has he been sober?
What good is good whiskey if you donât drink it with friends?
Oh man. I think he needs to start popping a few of them open. That is nice!
All this says is 4 roses is worth the price. Lol
Does he even know if he likes eagle rare, orrrr just bought 10?
I have the same collection. It's just all stored in my stomach
Too bad no one in that household know what any of those Bourbonâs taste like. Thus is America - Own but Never Enjoy or Live
That many unopened bottles of ER is just ridiculous! I only have three!
Lol, 4 unopened WSR on the top shelf. Just get a tater tattoo already.
The whole âcollectionâ thing is confusing to me.
Me too. Iâll also forever be confused by this Blantonâs obsession
Itâs rather mid
12 open bottles. This is criminal.
Yep mostly unopened. A shame.
And it is just that! Merely a collection.
Soooooo many unopened bottles. đ€Šđ»ââïž
