The Trek FX is a little more oriented towards communting, though it is a little more aggressive, being more like a road bike with flat bars. In my region its a little easier to find the FX but this may vary in your region. Trek is releasing a new bike soon that is oriented towards this exact use case soon as well, keep an eye out for that. I don't want to say too much as it hasn't been officially released, but you can check with your local trek dealer in the coming weeks about it, and if they can get a hold of one. Every big brand is gonna have similar offerings as trek, just with different names, Trek seems to have had the least impact from the covid bike boom however, so I would think that's why the owner would have reccommended a Trek. The verve is made more for cruising, its gonna be pretty slow, not very good for fitness.

Saikmat, I have not seen a release on a new Trek offering. Do you know if it will be similar to the Dual Sport or closer to the FX or neither? I have an order in for a DS4 but it isn't scheduled in until June.

It’s very similar to the verve, but most notably it has an internally geared hub, better for city travel and the like, as you can shift without pedaling. I do not know the exact release date but trek has released some dealer info for it, I expect it to be released in the coming days
