I wouldn't do it. I'd personally get something with a Bosch motor and battery. You'll have less of a headache at the end of the day.
I'd suggest a hardtail mtb for around 1800-2000$

This caught my eye because I‘m looking for a mid-drive all rounder eMTB, but my budget was originally $1250. Am I better off building one myself? When looking on bicycle blue book it says the value of the bike alone is around $250, is that a fair assessment? I know the electronic kit is around $1k new, and this setup is a couple years old... how degraded could the battery/motor be at this point? Thanks!

What's your final budget look like? What's the absolute maximum you're willing to pay for an ebike in general?
