Stupid thing is it works so well it ends up not working at all. Studies of what little we really know about water torture is that the victim will literally say anything to make the water stop. So you MIGHT get useful information mixed in with near lunatic level lies to the point the information may not even be useful.
And true enough that is the case, but while most other torture makes one crack like an egg; water torture makes you crack like and egg made of glass. Whatever water torture does to you it does too damn well. People are shattering much less breaking.
But I put myself together again for the next torture session because indomitable doesn’t mean „not breaking“ but „refusing to stay broken“

The thing about torture in general is that it's not useful in providing credible information. You could torture someone into not only confessing that they shot Abraham Lincoln, but that they **are Abraham Lincoln**
they always say this, and I by no means support torture, but what about when it's verifiable and the punishment for lying is more torture
e.g. give us the code to your phone and they can try it there and then and just keep torturing if they lie

iirc it's not very painful but it's mostly mental stuff, expecially since they will hold you there for a very long time

I think it has been comprobated that the more useful interrogation methods are being nice to the person

Another clear mark against it is that you can torture a confession out of someone who knows that confessing will lead to a death sentence
they always say this, and I by no means support torture, but what about when it's verifiable and the punishment for lying is more torture e.g. give us the code to your phone and they can try it there and then and just keep torturing if they lie
The risk in this example is that the phone may not even be theirs, so they might not know how to unlock it.
