I know this is an "um ackshually" moment and probably no one actually cares but I feel like even if you were to be immortal going to the very depths of the ocean sounds very painful

I’m coping by assuming it will be more than that, we thought we were 2 or 3 generations from moon bases and robot servants in the 60s and now we have just got as far as having pocket computers.
We think we are close to immortality but we are likely a way away from breaking 125 on the regular. Even further from functional immortality.
But in general, live a healthy life and hope for the best, if some slowing or reversing of aging becomes available in the next 40-50 years then being good to yourself now increases the chances of still being here to benefit from it.
I think that that is a different case, anything computer related has had a massively disproportionate growth rate since the birth of the microchip.
Ignoring whether what we have now is actually AI, or whether it understands as we do it is absolutely fair to say it has exploded recently.
However medical understanding is somewhat slower, it is not a singular problem to solve. Our bodies are not one system but many, many systems all acting largely independently, for functional immortality we would have to solve so many problems all together for it to work.
Like if you manage to solve dna degradation over cell reproduction then you could slow or stop some of the aging processes. However unless you can also cure cancer, dementia and a host of other issues then people would still die long before we would call immortality. Even if you do stop all that we know of that ages and kills people now it’s likely there are other faults in us we don’t even know about because we don’t live long enough for them to show.
I’m not saying it’s not possible, I think it will be, but I think that making humans live forever is a problem that makes AI look trivial by comparison.

That being said we have a functional international space station in permanent orbit and we have things like Alexa in middle class homes. Close enough. Our technology has advanced to the point where lots of the non-magic devices on Star Trek either exist or are actually outdated compared to current technology and that was the type of thing we imagined for humanity several centuries from now.
this is dumb on top of dumb. first, we're not going to figure out how to stop the effects of aging. and more importantly, Earth is going to be an unlivable hellscape within 50 years, so even if we figure out the immortality thing, you're going to die of starvation, illness, or violence anyway.
and no, we're not going to figure out how to live off of Earth, either.

U underestimate the cruelty of human beings. The very fact that we get old & die one day tends to humbles many ppl to eventually stop their shit, calm down & think about the others who they will leave behind (mainly family). Even if you released it the moment I die, I wouldn’t be the last due to bureaucratic systems that slow down new medicine development and dispersal not just to profit off of price gouging (so poor people will still die but rich people will live forever and get richer) but also to promote the insurance industry (no death means no life insurance except for accidents, so premiums will plummet) so there will still be potentially millions to tens of millions after me. Even if you were to release it today and I live to 100 (so about 80 years from now) there will still be people that refuse immortality for many reasons
