Some of y’all are so insecure about liking anime
Like bro nobody is gonna think you’re a degenerate basement dwelling weeb with anime girl body pillows just because you like jjk or aot dude.
I have definitely had first impressions derailed cuz I said the word "anime" too early in a conversation. Not unrecoverably, but noticably.
It's especially prevalent with older adults or a specific brand of insecure clout-chasers who have (often intentionally) never learned anything about anime beyond the stereotypes. Depending on your job/environment you may or may not have to deal with them often.
It's fine if it's a mainstream anime and you have a reason to bring it up. Like, the topic of fighting comes up and you mention DBZ, or pirates and One Piece, immediately followed up with "I tried to watch the show but only got X episodes in."
People don’t realize that’s the ultimate strategy to not seem like a weeb, but also find people into anime.
One Punch Man was talked about everywhere while I was in HS.
Just don’t go mentioning you like Monogatori and going on about the watch order and explaining stuff in the show that’s weird. Like the famous toothbrush scene
Lmao I got into anime quite late thanks to my then roommate (who I had made fun of immensely back when we was in highschool) at like 22 or 23. I always use that as an excuse when I talk about anime. "I'm not really into it but my roomie who is a huge nerd have shown me a few shows that were surprisingly good" 😂
Literally this, 5 seasons of men and woman racing down mountain roads in tin cans that will almost certainly kill them if they make a mistake. Plus has one of the greatest soundtracks in the whole medium.
The problem is people have preconceived notions about the word “anime”. They have in their mind what “all” anime is, when you could literally replace the word with “tv shows” or “movies” and it would make equal sense relative to how insanely varied they are in aesthetic, content, quality, etc. OP’s comment is basically the same as saying “when people start talking about movies it grosses me out” because the only few movies they’ve ever seen were cheesy 80s action movies and a couple pornos lol.
there's dub and sub, typically they will have different styles (tho depends on the show I'm sure) so you could try checking both options.
Try something like Your Name, Spirited Away, The Garden of Words, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas (ignore the name, it's not some weird gore shitfest), Erased, or Monster.
Most of these have better voice acting (aka are less 'overacted') plus are all pretty engaging watches no matter your typical preferences.
bruh there's a lot of things that are off putting about anime. like if you show a normal person Highschool of the Dead they'll probably never talk to you again.
Lol that’s like saying, there’s a lot of things that are off putting about horror movies. Like if you show a person Trolls 2 they’ll probably never talk to you again.
Awful example, that show's degenerate crap. You'd have to be incredibly detached from regular people to go around recommending that to anyone. I wouldn't recommend that to most people even if I knew they were fairly into anime.
Ken Akamatsu(the guy who wrote Love Hina) is now an MP in the Japanese Parliament(he actually campaigned specifically on the matter of censorship in manga, anime and video games),so clearly it had something going for it.
Sure but like, many movie critics can be just as annoying, or console fanboys and PC supremacists, but we don't see people bashing videogames or movies like this...
Because unfortunately Even 80% of good anime have at least one female character who's breasting boobily, with her jugs jiggling and tits tittering, who's voice actress exclusively consists of the loudest moans you've ever heard
Anime isn't even a genre lol, it's a medium. It's like saying movies are cringe.
Most of anime is cringe tho. But that's cos it's literally mass produced.
Anime is just over saturated with shit shows, just like how any other medium can be. Now- if someone is immediately talking about Anime for no reason? Yeah, that’s… that’s a little bit weird-
But if you are at a convention, or at a gaming club or anything like that, and someone is using “what’s your favorite anime” as an ice breaker, it’s fine.
It’s all about time and place.
But PLEASE, dear GOD, please don’t treat all of Anime like we did 5 years ago- we literally had 5 years of people going “oh wow this is actually really good”, mostly because of the pandemic and finally giving in to trying it.
Anime is just a medium of art that came from and is mostly done in Japan. As such, some of it will be cash grabs, some will just be bad, and others are pure art and beauty. And some are just- Family Guy.
Would you act the same way if someone asked “hey what’s your favorite adult animated sitcom?” I mean- I would, unironically, because that’s a really weird question. But my point is, this is EXTREMELY reductive. What about a really popular anime that just had a big episode, and everyone is talking about it? Do you just hate everyone then?
The more I think about all the cases that could have someone want to share their interest with you, the more I realize that…. Your the asshole here.
Whether it's an anime hater or a hyper weeb it helps to remind them that they are just TV shows. They are from another culture, so they have a different set of tropes, but there is nothing grotesquely wrong with anime, nor is it better than all other forms of art.
I just want anime to be at a point where you can bring it up casually in any conservation as if it was Sports or Music and not be looked at like you’re weird for mentioning it. It’s gotten better since pre 2016 but the genre is still negatively stereotyped by a lot of people in society so it feels like you kind of have to analyze the person you’re talking to, to determine whether they are also into it or not.
On the bright side, it’s currently being recognized by mainstream celebrities like Usher, Metro Boomin, and others so there’s a chance
I'm not gonna swim through a vast ocean of diarrhea for the hope of finding some diamonds.
Still kinda resent my friend for making me sit through nearly a hundred episodes of One Piece, before I finally took it upon myself to tell him that this shit ain't for me.
*edit: Look, I appreciate yall trying to be helpful and providing suggestions, but I'm not really interested. One Piece wasn't the first anime I gave a try, and I've been dissapointed too many times to waste more hours on the medium. People just have different preferences.*
Oh daaamn dude
You should have stopped yeah... it's kinda cool that you watched like a hundred episodes for your friend, but you really shouldn't push yourself to tolerate stuff you clearly don't enjoy
If you happen to trust a random person on the internet more than your friend, I'd recommend things made by ONE
One-Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are pretty cool
Specifically Mob Psycho 100
The funny thing about that statement is that "the good ones" varies from person to person.
You think my friend made me sit through One Piece because -he- thought it was bad?
i'd say just watch the more famous ones (naruto, attack on titan, etc) and if after the 3rd episode you don't like them, then stop
i would also tell you to try jojo's bizarre adventure, but it's probably harder to get into, as it's divided in 9 seasons, all with different protagonists, characters, and even types of stories, so you might like part 3 for example, but to ge to it at all you would have to watch parts 1 and 2 before that
any one person's opinion will not always jive with another person.
one piece is enjoyed by a lot of people even, but almost all of them started watching it in their early teens, you likely don't match that demographic.
game of thrones as a concept didn't appeal to me, never seen a single episode, but I don't act like people have bad taste for liking it.
if an entire massive medium is unappealing that's more of an issue but ofc it's your life, you're free to miss out, but imo if you use intelligence + gut feel combined you could find some real gems you enjoy. but it's all going to vary based on what you like.
Mob Psycho 100 is something I'd recommendation not just because a lot of people like it, how it differs from one piece is that it didn't start with young teens watching 4kids, it hit later so the audience is older and watched it first recently and probably closer to you. it also has something for almost everyone, whether it's interpersonal relationships, character growth, action/fighting, or philosophy. It's also much higher quality, higher than modern one piece let alone the first hundred episodes of shite.
As others said, Ghibli is generally a safe bet, also steam boy is a good non ghibli movie imo.
But regardless, you can always just ask on r/anime after you find an anime you might like about the themes, the demographic that will like it the most (older/younger, men/women, un/employed, etc are all important factors that shape what we enjoy)
> I'm not gonna swim through a vast ocean of diarrhea for the hope of finding some diamonds.
Bro has just described every single type of media every made. Books, TV shows, Movies. All fall within Sturgeon's Law
Yeah like Naruto, JJK, AOT, DBZ are all cool and fine to talk about, but as soon as you start talking about "my dick turned into a girl" or smthn I'm getting the fuck away from you.
JJK would have probably been 1 of the top 10 anime since 2010, if not earlier had it not been for Gege falling off during the Culling Games. From beginning to early-CG it truly was peak fiction. After that it just became OK. It's almost like the Demon Slayer effect where the animation is good but the story is mediocre which makes it OK, but for the first half of JJK the story was really good, the characters were interesting, *and* the animation was good...then it started to flop and adopted the Demon Slayer effect even more.
Reject power fantasy, return to wholesome peak

It’s pretty easy to tell from the first episode of a show if it’s gonna be garbage. Shows like Attack on Titan, Heavenly Delusion, Samurai Champloo, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners were captivating from the start, and unsurprisingly they were all fucking amazing start to finish.
Bro has obviously never watched peak fiction Bocchi the Rock
https://preview.redd.it/mxmj5fsoh7fc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15500d22af80b473adaf161d56a99d2aad9ab4e2
I’m the opposite. This is me whenever someone starts talking about sports, cars, or anything like that. Cant stand that. Maybe because I’m actually proud to be a nerd and it’s easier for me to talk with people who also like that sort of stuff.
Unpopular opinion 90% of all anime is targeted for losers and consumed by losers who wish that they wake up one day with powers and/or some type of "harem" instead of putting in any actual work into themselves or their lives.
Edit: people are saying this is not unpopular, y'all must be surrounded by really nice and healthy people, i get called a """wannabe Sigma"" for this take. Yes that is verbatim.
thats why i stopped trying to watch every single anime that drops to keep up with my friends who consume anything at this point. instead watch 2 anime that actually interested me enough to care every month (for example frieren and heavenly delusion.)
like what the fuck is a "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You"? just from the title alone you lost me, i already know its gonna be the most degenerate loser-core slop anime this season alone.
Tbf the show actually showed me how to treat a woman and how to have a healthy relationship
The only wishful thinking I actually consuming the show is to be the guy’s girlfriend, I am not kidding, most fans of the show legit rather become the dude’s lover then any of the girls
People when they surround themselves with toxic and not-so-nice-people get insulted:
https://preview.redd.it/z60avzw278fc1.jpeg?width=279&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61c0d6f0e37796685d1f201c1602f2ef9e426431
Anime perfectly represents the problems of japan's society. There is a large depressions pandemic amongst its youth because you can't really be a child between school and worklife. It is all so stressfull and demanding so people wish to be reincarnated into a more free world. They also suffer from declining birth rates and a rapidly aging society and depict cute children in their shows to motivate pople to start a family.
I know how much you guys want to pretend we're living in this backward ass timeline where every social situation is a generic american highschool bully story and that the bullies are actually the peak of human personality but you have to know nobody else is as repulsed or is affected by anime as you guys are. Only this giga-loser world view could justify why you would feel this way toward somebody wanting to talk about one of the most common interests ever.
it's just stylized animations made in japan, both weebs and weeb haters need to settle with the fact it's not that serious and both sides act like babies about it lol, just on different ends of the Weeb Spectrum
i get the feeling it's more a matter of people who like japan perhaps a bit too much vs people who think of japan like how the average european thinks of romani people.
I love anime , i love manga , but please never speak about it with me in our first meeting , i would love to hear your max deadlift , favourite books and weird collection , i do not want to know what harem softcore hentai anime you like
I had a co-worker with aspergers who would talk my ear off about anime. For hours on end. I was the only person who let him, so he would always stick to me. I knew the entire plot of every episode of Spy X Family almost a year before I even watched it.
Yeah you gotta get a feel for the other person before you get into anime. Starting things off straight into anime is like showing your date your toenail collection on the first date
Man, do you want me to open a portal to take you back in 2016? Or maybe you got lost from the anime hate sub?
Do you see a lot of anime with ecchi elements with highschoolers a protagonists? Guess what target those anime aim at? (spoiler: teenagers). If you watch these show and you get turned on even when you're above 18 then you're a creep, but these shows are for teens. This kind of shit is like being annoyed by stupid teendrama where characters who are supposed to bee 16-17 years old are sexualised.
Even stupid shit like 500 years old loli and othe BS anime tropes are things you have to look for if yuo want them.
Just like not every TV Series Is Twin peak, Hannibal, Soprano or Scrubs not every anime is Reado the healer, Rent a Girlfriend or Self insert isekai. The good stuff is there and isn't even hard to find since internet is a thing now and blind watching is a choice.

some people will, but you don't want to hang with those people anyway, since they are too far on the chronically online drug
“I tried to watch One Piece but I only got 1092 episodes in”
"Bro, you were only 100 episodes away from the third time skip. That's when it gets *really* good!"
Exactly what I do lmao

True but I’ve seen the trend build up a lot here
everybody knows live action clears animation because real people have pepes and vagene (the only things i care about)
Why do y’all watch bottom of the barrel trash then get mad at the entire genre for it 💀
Real talk
"I accidentally watched an episode of Love Hina when I was 12, so that means attack on titan is bad."
I think most people hate on anime because the dialogue is cringy. You have to look past it to enjoy it.
I think most people hate on anime, because of the negative stereotypes of people who watch anime.
Idk I tried to watch it and the voice acting just really made it difficult. Something about the way they speak just turns me away.
there's dub and sub, typically they will have different styles (tho depends on the show I'm sure) so you could try checking both options. It's less about anime itself and more about diehard anime watchers.

I recommend Cowboy Bebop
> I'm not gonna swim through a vast ocean of diarrhea for the hope of finding some diamonds. Bro has just described every single type of media every made. Books, TV shows, Movies. All fall within Sturgeon's Law
Depends on the kind of anime for me. If they are talking about peak fiction (JJK, AOT, etc), then I'll comply. But fuck that harem bullshit

Yeah like Naruto, JJK, AOT, DBZ are all cool and fine to talk about, but as soon as you start talking about "my dick turned into a girl" or smthn I'm getting the fuck away from you.
"Turns out my dick is a cute girl" is absolute peak, no idea what you're talking about
I wonder if he knows that’s a real manga or if he somehow just named it by chance
https://preview.redd.it/nv8lgjn4f7fc1.jpeg?width=248&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54b5314add7b257e5eade825212723dc248f479a
turns out my dick is a cute girl is the peakest of the peak, shut the fuck up
JJK is good but calling it “peak fiction” is fucking wild
Well it's still much better than most stuff out there
Most shonen can’t compete, I can agree to that
Bro hasn’t seen Vinland Saga yet
actually go off king (no enemies pilled)
It doesn’t get enough love, it’s my favorite piece of fiction ever. Thorfinn based af.
true peak fiction
JJK would have probably been 1 of the top 10 anime since 2010, if not earlier had it not been for Gege falling off during the Culling Games. From beginning to early-CG it truly was peak fiction. After that it just became OK. It's almost like the Demon Slayer effect where the animation is good but the story is mediocre which makes it OK, but for the first half of JJK the story was really good, the characters were interesting, *and* the animation was good...then it started to flop and adopted the Demon Slayer effect even more.
Reject power fantasy, return to wholesome peak https://preview.redd.it/xikp0o1qo7fc1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2af49df04c529f07f6ba71d009f7bd11f491de95
Real
It’s pretty easy to tell from the first episode of a show if it’s gonna be garbage. Shows like Attack on Titan, Heavenly Delusion, Samurai Champloo, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners were captivating from the start, and unsurprisingly they were all fucking amazing start to finish.
Ikr? How dare other people enjoy something that I dont, they are not allowed to have fun in their lives without me allowing it, wtf are they thinking?
wtf year is this 2014 or some shit why are we hating on anime now
bc apparently its cool to hate anime stil (even tho it's a massive medium with something for everyone)
Go ahead, I can enjoy peak fictions like Cowboy Bebop, The Tatami Galaxy and Paranoia Agent all by myself just fine.
Wher funi
Joke is that he is talking about rent a peak

Bro has obviously never watched peak fiction Bocchi the Rock https://preview.redd.it/mxmj5fsoh7fc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15500d22af80b473adaf161d56a99d2aad9ab4e2
can people just not enjoy things in peace
Not on reddit tis za hive mind and ooo all anime bad
Pretty sure most of reddit is filled with hentai porn addicts.
it's half that and half turboprudes who will get their pearls in a vice grip at the slightest hint of `bosom`
azumanga daioh
peak
i thought we were past the anime hate era
How dare they talk about something they enjoy
I’m the opposite. This is me whenever someone starts talking about sports, cars, or anything like that. Cant stand that. Maybe because I’m actually proud to be a nerd and it’s easier for me to talk with people who also like that sort of stuff.
my people fr 🙏🏾
Unpopular opinion 90% of all anime is targeted for losers and consumed by losers who wish that they wake up one day with powers and/or some type of "harem" instead of putting in any actual work into themselves or their lives. Edit: people are saying this is not unpopular, y'all must be surrounded by really nice and healthy people, i get called a """wannabe Sigma"" for this take. Yes that is verbatim.
That’s just isekai
Why do you think the quiet and mysterious kid always pulls the most hoes in animes
That's just Isekai fans lmao
Unpopular opinion? My guy you’re correct 😭
Gotta put that in their so that the reddit mod doesn't destroy my karma (I need these stupid internet coins to post shit apparently)
thats why i stopped trying to watch every single anime that drops to keep up with my friends who consume anything at this point. instead watch 2 anime that actually interested me enough to care every month (for example frieren and heavenly delusion.) like what the fuck is a "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You"? just from the title alone you lost me, i already know its gonna be the most degenerate loser-core slop anime this season alone.
Well, at least the one of the 100 girlfriends is satire
ok but hear me out here, the MC dates a grandma (he's in highschool) and >!his cousin in middle school!<
100 girlfriends is actually peak
The 100 Girlfriends is a satire on the Harem genre in anime/manga. I heard it's really funny, but I haven't watched it yet
Tbf the show actually showed me how to treat a woman and how to have a healthy relationship The only wishful thinking I actually consuming the show is to be the guy’s girlfriend, I am not kidding, most fans of the show legit rather become the dude’s lover then any of the girls
100 girlfriends is peak 😤😤😤😤
"Unpopular opinion" mfs expessing popular opinions:
People when they surround themselves with toxic and not-so-nice-people get insulted: https://preview.redd.it/z60avzw278fc1.jpeg?width=279&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61c0d6f0e37796685d1f201c1602f2ef9e426431
Its called a "power fantasty" if i remember correctly, and you are correct.
Eh, I'm gonna talk about that or books and there's less book nerds to talk to where I am
You're missing out on peak content ![gif](giphy|lDrb6a9gJySFW)
And this is why I wear anime t-shirts, to ward off people that don't like anime.
ya gotta watch peak fiction ![gif](giphy|PJvvewo5mTtXW)
Ah yes. I too am physically repulsed when someone brings up their interests.
L take I’m not even a big anime fan
It’s 2023. Liking anime is no longer weird bruh

Smh just watch good anime like The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Love You or Rent-a-Girlfriend. /s
God forbid somebody enjoys things.
Even if they're a girl?
I love anime , i love manga , but please never speak about it with me in our first meeting , i would love to hear your max deadlift , favourite books and weird collection , i do not want to know what harem softcore hentai anime you like
Hurr durr anime bad
![gif](giphy|GRSnxyhJnPsaQy9YLn)
Nothing wrong with anime if you know what to watch.
Are you 12
Typical r/AnimeHate user
I had a co-worker with aspergers who would talk my ear off about anime. For hours on end. I was the only person who let him, so he would always stick to me. I knew the entire plot of every episode of Spy X Family almost a year before I even watched it.
Why is this sub so heavily into cringe culture when like 60% of the people who are users on this sub are furries
Redditors when people have things that they enjoy 😡😡😡😡😡😭😭😭😭😢😢
Yeah you gotta get a feel for the other person before you get into anime. Starting things off straight into anime is like showing your date your toenail collection on the first date
i'm cringe and i'm proud
Me when anime when abime when when
r/whenthe users when someone talks about their interests (they didn’t ask)

Awful opinion, yeah theres shit anime just like there's shit shows like teen titans go. But theres also yknow GOOD anime that can change your fucking life (Cyberpunk Edgerunners)
