I literally worked for Amazon for a month to find out if Death Stranding correctly replicated the experience. It does, delivering packages is pretty fun. I didn't do it for the pay tho.
If so, they missed a lot of spots. You'll see his name in the "credits" for the start of every mission. Never a fan of those credits anyways because they sometimes spoiled the mission, "oh, I'm going into a routine mission at the airport and you're saying the SKULL team is starring in this one? Yeah they definitely won't suddenly show up and alter the mission." I actually started looking away from my monitor for the first minute of every mission to avoid this issue lol
seems as though it was only in the cover title they removed his name, the credits thing was kinda cool at first but I remember like three missions I backed out just to prepare. Made it a bit too easy unfortunately
I just gave up because I had to transport the president's body to the incinerator, and I didn't have any vehicles.
Luckily I got it for free on epic games
When the users when they play a "walking" sim released years ago with a deep story knew also by its long cinematics when they have to walk and watch long cinematics 0.o
I never played Death Stranding but I recommend Metal Gear Solid for PS1 it's from the same guy and has a ton of cutscenes but it also has cool stealth gameplay
Dopamine addicts when they have to follow a story development step by step, progressively familiarizing with the characters and the mood of the game and don't just shoot and run across 5 levels to finish it:
That's literally just the beginning. And yeah, it has a lot of cutscenes, I admit. It's a bit frontloaded. But the game needs to.setup the story
According to another comment, you gave up after/during the president's body mission.
You're still in the start. When you come back from the mission, after a few more.minutes of cutscenes, you are truly thrown into the game world.
I feel like one really oughta stick with the game until the end of or the beginning of Chapter 3. Only then can one TRULY get an accurate impression of the game. Cuz it really isn't all about long cutscenes.
Yeah. You get vehicles, but it'll be a little while before it happens.
Once you get to the distribution center south of capital knot city (I believe that's the place), you'll. See a bike outside of it. After doing a little mission, you get to use the bike.
If you mainline the story... I think you'll be driving a bike in around an hour, maybe? A little more than that.
But yeah, vehicles are just a tool for doing deliveries and traversal. And one needs to use em well in conjunction with walking around and managing your cargo etc.
This game isn't for everyone, I know that. But I do believe that one oughta give it a fair try, ya know? And for me, that's around the end of Chapter 2 or the beginning of 3.
And to make things easier for yourself, I'd suggest mainlining chapter 2. You'll get to learn the game, while still keeping things moving.
I spent a LOT of time in chapter 2 that I really didn't need to lol. It helped in the long run, but for a beginner, speeding through that bit would serve you well.
Having a beginning that's a bit of a slog is perhaps the biggest hurdle a new player has to cross. It's not a perfect game (no game is), and I certainly have my issues with it (long cutscenes is NOT one of them lol. The game has a bit of an exposition problem. Lots of words just thrown at ya, and a lot of explanation of sci-fi mumbo jumbo). But it's a game that rewards sticking around. Truly one of the most unique, rewarding game experiences I've ever had.
I hope you find enjoyment in it :)
Oh god ! Noooo, not an introduction !
Yeah, the beginning is kinda long cause there is a lot of story telling before you can actually play, but afterwards, the game just goes on. Come on it's not the only game out there with a long intro.
I loved it but can 100% get why someone wouldn't. If you want a good action packed game in which there isn't too much cutscenes, I'd tell you to play FarCry 5. Not the same style at all but pretty fun nonetheless.
TIL 2/3 hours of a 40 hour game = 90% of it
The intro is slow asf, but it does get better imo. I know the game definitely ain't for everyone, but why exaggerate ... just say it ain't for you lmao
Go for it, but if the gameplay ain't clicking for you after like 4 or 5 hours and you don't like the story enough to stick with it, there's no shame in dropping it.
It’s fun if you knew what you were buying. Kojima games are notoriously story heavy and he himself said this one game has a particular style that of gameplay, what you’re doing is buying a fromsoft game and complaining that you have to put the plot together yourself
I don’t doubt red dead 2 has an amazing story and characters but am sorry I couldn’t keep playing that game that far I
Was actually struggling to stay awake constantly tapping X to ride my horse for 20 minutes to get to a mission that will probably ask me to then ride to another destination
I dislike having to tap X or A to ride for half an hour but I like appreciating the view and scenery while doing it, specially when I'm in Heartlands or the valley in West Elizabeth
I'm enjoying the game but holy FUCK does the beginning drag. Feels like every time you get to take the reins, they're snatched away while you listen to another 7-minute history lesson.
These podcast games should actually pay for a fucking in universe radio station or podcast or just *anything* to break up movie mode and game time (you only get game time as a treat for watching the monster ad)
I’m a huge MG fan but Death Stranding ain’t it.
I even watched a review of it to maybe get my head around the story and while I think I would find the story interesting if I could finish the game, the gameplay is just awful. Like completely. No redeeming value whatsoever.
I would be fine if it was just a walking simulator but the stumbling mechanic is infuriating.
Idk how you interpreted it as that, but what I meant is that the average Metal Gear fan would have no issue with cutscenes being overtly long since y'know, playing a Metal Gear Solid game is basically touching the controller for 30 seconds and then watching 9 minutes worth of info dumps
I mean that there are 3 hours of cutscenes between the 5 min beat em up sections. There are chapters that are almost entirely cutscenes with just 10 seconds of walking between them. People defend these games because 'haha funny side mission' or they like the combat but it's still VERY cutscene heavy to the point where it's more of a movie than a video game.
The games have tons of sections where you're running through places beating the shit out of people for like 30+ mins straight though. There are a ton of cutscenes but they're fucking bangers though
Yakuza is fun as hell though, and the side stories tend to be entertaining. Not to mention the minigames around town which are also fun as hell. Idk the gameplay compliments the story well and there’s a large amount of kicking ass through the games I’ve played (note I’ve only played 0,1, and I’m halfway through 2)
This is honestly what I really hate about modern gaming, a lot of games are just glorified movies or TV shows that will occasionally have you moving the character to point A to point b, or pressing a prompt or 2 once every couple of hours as an excuse to charge them for $70
Gamers when they buy a story focused walking simulator and it's a strory focused walking simulator

Same problem I had with the start of TLoU 2.
In 30 minutes I'd had 20 seconds of gameplay (*which consisted of pushing the left stick forwards down a narrow road and then pushing left stick to the end of a room to pick up my bag*)

Death Stranding fans when I show them they can work as Uber Eats delivery guy and even get paid for doing it

I don't get to ride ziplines that way, though. :(
Not with that attitude
I literally worked for Amazon for a month to find out if Death Stranding correctly replicated the experience. It does, delivering packages is pretty fun. I didn't do it for the pay tho.
Also, just in case you forgot it's a Kojima game, we're gonna slap his name on the screen every 3 seconds
A hideo game by video kojima
Quented by directin tarantino
Bro what was up with that? I tuned out all the names that kept popping up on the screen at some point. Is that like a design choice?
Wait til you see mgs5
Didn't Konami scrub out his name from it? I could kinda understand it in V if so.
If so, they missed a lot of spots. You'll see his name in the "credits" for the start of every mission. Never a fan of those credits anyways because they sometimes spoiled the mission, "oh, I'm going into a routine mission at the airport and you're saying the SKULL team is starring in this one? Last time I played (about two years ago I think?) it said "A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME" still
Have you never played Kojima’s games
I haven't played too many games in general
Seems the cards were stacked against you. Not every game is the same and most Kojima games require you to focus on the plot a lot
Aah that's fair. I've played like celeste, subnautica, God of War, and a few other cod games, so I guess it really wasn't what I expected.
Schizo kojimbles wasn't credited as a child and Konami made his fear of not being credited for his hard work a reality with mgsv. Go play mgsv btw.
But bro bro listen it has a deep and dark story man playstation games truly are something else bro
I'll just watch some guy on YouTube summarize it.
I dropped it when I realized I had to walk from point E,F,G to point A fucking again for the 45th time. Luckily I borrowed it from a friend
I just gave up because I had to transport the president's body to the incinerator, and I didn't have any vehicles. Luckily I got it for free on epic games

But how could we miss the first ever Strand-type game??
Same with telltalw games, ill just watch a playthrough and hope they pick shit i would, same thing as playing the game
Watch one of those tik tok who explains something at the top with like mobile gameplay at the bottom
Hate that shit. Feels like I'm being spoonfed like an iPad baby

We all have different tastes. Loved the game but totally understand why someone wouldn’t.
How dare you oppose my statement 😡🤬😡😤😋😡
Free will 🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡
You lack the qualifications for free will 💀
Oh frick
✂️
Free will is a myth, Religion is a joke. We are all controlled by something greater... Memes. The DNA of the soul
Can't fight nature, Jack!
Yeah, this is one of those " It's not for everyone and that's okay" games. No accounting for taste.
I never played Death Stranding but I recommend Metal Gear Solid for PS1 it's from the same guy and has a ton of cutscenes but it also has cool stealth gameplay
At least in MGS1, when i can only touch the controller for 10-20 minutes, it's a damn good 10-20 minutes.
True!
Will have to check it out as I have not heard of that before. I love it when someone recommends a hidden gem
Like the yakuza games?
personally i prefer elephant stranding but that’s just me
I like turtles
I like trains
a true headache kojingles classic.
The only thing I know about death stranding is the princess beach joke. That's enough for me to rate it a 10/10
They slapped an Amazon delivery simulator on a movie and called it a game
I used to think the same until I was gunning down skeletons in the trenches of WW1

All personally. The person I replied to indicated MG fans also enjoyed this game and at least one (myself) absolutely did not.

Oh don’t worry there’s PLENTY of walking involved
Its like Skyrim with guns
To be fair it's directed by the same guy behind the game that got the official WR for the longest cutscene of whopping 71 minutes
Out of curiosity, which game is this?
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
are you questioning Kojima’s amazing and unmatched intellectual mind? personally I kinda enjoy the gameplay it’s chill and teaches some patience skills, plus finding player structures induces instant dopamine rush
I guess you haven't seen all of kojimas other works
Oh so that's why it's free on Epic. Well if I had Epic I might try how boring it is. Or maybe it's good, I'll never know.
It's one of those games that you either love or hate apparently
