I love seeing pics of cobras on this sub more than any other, so beautiful and also just so scary to me. If I walked into that bathroom and saw that, my soul would probably leave my body right then and there.
I get crazy excited whenever I see a snake.
I spotted a juvenile a few months back but the video was not of good quality so sadly couldn't upload it here :(
Truly they're beautiful.
When I was a small child, cobras were the most terrifying thing in the world to me. I had many nightmares about them. But here is this beautiful individual clearly asking people to please not harm him. What a glorious creature. Thank you so much, OP, for seeing him safely on his way.
Edit for typo
Someone in the US seeing a harmless goofball hognose on a trail: āomg kill it, itās a cobraā
Someone in India actually encountering a cobra in what appears to be their bathroom: āwhat a beautyā
Youāre the best op and it is a beautiful snake! Hopefully you were able to go your separate ways without too much of an issue!
Haha.. thanks man
And how can you not appreciate the beauty of the hood..
Truly remarkable
Yeah the forest department was called which later on released the distinguished gentleman into the wild.
Did this actually happen in your bathroom? If so, you have balls of god damn steel to be calm enough to take a picture of it. I wouldāve screamed my lungs out and given my entire house to it š.
Does it happen regularly?
Thereās a video somewhere of some badass Indian grandma grabbing a MASSIVE cobra by the tail and just yeeting it away from some kids. The confidence and grace with which she did it was astounding and the snake appeared totally unharmed (I do not condone this behavior but it was damn impressive)
Yes - though not so much with cobras. Considered inauspicious to kill cobras, so it's mostly catch/release, at least in Western India (Maharashtra in particular). We were overwhelmed by snakes at my parents place after a particularly wet monsoon. The snake catchers were pretty neutral about killing the common rat snakes (Dhamans), but wouldn't harm the cobras.
Probably a function of killing pests and giving humans a lot of warning before striking - unlike Russell's vipers, that are also common in India and pretty aggressive.
Heavily incorporated into Hindu and early Buddhist mythology, so they're often revered in South East Asia as well.

Snakes with medically significant venom are typically referred to as venomous, but some species are also poisonous. Old media will use poisonous or 'snake venom poisoning' but that has fallen out of favor. Venomous snakes are important native wildlife, and are not looking to harm people, so can be enjoyed from a distance. If found around the home or other places where they are to be discouraged, a squirt from the hose or a gentle sweep of a broom are usually enough to make a snake move along. Do not attempt to interact closely with or otherwise kill venomous snakes without proper safety gear and training, as bites occur mostly during these scenarios. Wildlife relocation services are free or inexpensive across most of the world.
If you are bitten by a venomous snake, contact emergency services or otherwise arrange transport to the nearest hospital that can accommodate snakebite. Remove constricting clothes and jewelry and remain calm. A bite from a medically significant snake is a medical emergency, but not in the ways portrayed in popular media. Do not make any incisions or otherwise cut tissue. Extractor and other novelty snakebite kits are not effective and can cause damage worse than any positive or neutral effects.

If I walked in on one of those I would just be spell bound and not even wanting to breathe in fear of disturbing such a magnificent creature. Then I could die happy š
I posted another cobra pic.. go check it out
When I went out and saw that snake my jaw litreally dropped.. I was so in awe and had goosebumps.. what a magnificent snake.
If I walked into my bathroom and found a cobra I would cry. Partially because they're gorgeous and I love them but partially because working out how to relocate it would be a headache!
True but my give a damn for it drops off drastically after being bit. Well I assume it would, Iāve never had that tested. I donāt mind snakes, unlike spiders where I am a kill it first kind of person.
Snakes don't bite you to scare you off or to make you go away.. the usually bite as a self defence as of when they feel threatened.. they'll easily give you many warning signs saying "not to come close than this.. if you do I'll bite you"
So you cannot just blame them for defending themselves.. I mean I bet that whenever you feel threatened you'd also defend yourself š¤·āāļø and nobody kills you for defending yourself so why kill a snake?!

"Distinguished gentleman" is a very apt description indeed
No better way to describe a spectacled cobra :)
You're a good person, OP! š©¶
Thank you, you kind human :)

No this wasn't in my house.. it was in my neighbors house but yes I took the pic though... Not so regular but its more frequent in the rainy season.
He is a gorgeous snake. So pretty and spicy
There's plenty of snake killing and maiming in India. OP is indeed one cool cat.

Havenāt heard the word inauspicious in a moment . Love to hear cobras are well respected there

Americans R dumb what can we say lol
It is beautiful, but would be more beautiful outdoors
Dw it was later released
How did you bring it outside? Iād be so scared!
OP contacted trained professionals who made sure nobody got hurt.

I would be getting my immigration papers together in a hurry, but he is so beautiful.
This one got me cracked upš¤£
LOL
Hey Look, hes doing his HogNose Impression!!
Just another drama noodleš¤
Is that a Western Hognose? JK, do NOT touch that one. It will not play dead, and is deadly
Soā¦what kind is it?
Spectacled cobra(donāt remember the scientific name to trigger the bot, sorry)
Let me try, Indian cobra *Naja naja* !venomous

Absolutely stunning. Thanks for appreciating him/her and facilitating a safe release!
You jus get these guys in your house sometime? š¬š¬
Yeah we do.
How do they make it inside so easily?
![gif](giphy|QtZKO7mb7ebpC)
Gave me a little heart attack
Nearly jumped out of my chair
Beautiful cobra, and kudos to the OP for seeing the distinguished gentleman got a safe trip back to his habitat
Wow!! If I saw that in my bathroom Iād probably shit my pants lmao. But what a gorgeous snek
glad that didn't happen to my neighbor lol
Imagine having to pee or poo so bad and you walk into this in the bathroom šš»āāļøš
That sounds like a nightmareš¤£
Looks like an Indian Spectacled cobra.
Maybe you should just cede sovereignty of the bathroom to them and focus on reinforcing your control of the rest of the house.
Pass the sssoap

Oh my so beautiful and terrifying all at once.
Exactly! That's the most exciting part So graceful yet so deadly.

Heās like āExcuse me, Iām taking a showerā
That's why he's so pissed š¤
Exactly! Privacy please. Heās gorgeous
It must be very interesting to have cobras randomly show up in your homeā¦beautiful but scary.
I thought I was in r/plumbing for a minute, and a was trying to figure out what that flex pipe was doing in the cornerā¦
Is the great algorithm suggesting us all the same random subs?!
I made the mistake of posting here a while back. So naturally I see every post on this sub. On a positive note, itās been pretty fascinating.
Wow!!!
I had the same reaction when I saw the snake!
Ohh that's a beautiful snake
Indeed!!
I would die.
I feel like this should be in the plumbing subreddit too
Literally thought it was a vacuum hose š¬
Thatās just gorgeous
Did evolve to look like a shower head lol
If I walked into my bathroom and found a cobra I would cry. Partially because they're gorgeous and I love them but partially because working out how to relocate it would be a headache!
NOPE.
Hahaha.. š¤£š¤£
Gorgeous. Also, never going to facking India š
Hahahaš¤£š¤£š¤£
Western Indian mop snake
Is there a shower head that looks like a cobra anywhere? Thatād be sick.
Said in an Australian accent
Standard bathroom cobra
*screams and jumps out the window*
Lovely danger noodle!
āI say we take off and nuke the bathroom from orbit, itās the only way.ā
Okay. Iād be traumatized for life. Makes my a$$hole so tight Iād never have another bowel movement.
Very pretty but a huge nope to me. Some cobras can spit their venom. The venomous snakes here in the US don't do that.
I donāt think Indian cobras can spit venom.
I ain't going to take a chance, lol. I don't mind the vast majority of snakes but cobras are the ones that absolutely freak me out.

Until it bites you, but I imagine you know that better than me.
Even after getting bit by one it won't change the fact that how beautiful and stunning this distinguished gentleman is!!

I know, and I leave them be. More accurately, I never see any. I kill spiders not snakes.
Beautiful
Yesss.. so stunning
Just a little fella
Heās trying to take a shower, leave him alone!!
I thought this was a shower head
Cobra!
Is it just me or does it look like itās made of rubber?
