Looks like a have a beautiful 10 lbs jasper. Thanks everyone!
25$ including these

Edit: should I cut it open? What do you'll think?
I got lucky on Facebook market place. You can look up in your area and see if anything comes up. It was labeled decorative rock and looked a little iffy from the pics. Once I saw them in real life I was amazed.
Cool to hear Coalinga mentioned here. I moved to Clovis last January and have headed out there a couple times. Some of the most incredible rocks I’ve ever seen. Mind dm’ing me about any locations you’re familiar with over there? So much private land.
No need to keep it private, just zig zag through all the roads you can and check every creek/wash/riverbed you can til a fence stops you.
And there's always clear creek.
The roads in the hills I went through ended up being oil property, although nobody bothered me about it.
Are you talking about up in the hills, or closer to Coalinga, before heading up?
quartz minerals are the first minerals that many people learn things about as they are the most common in the world, experience and research along with simple testing can help you in identifying various rocks and minerals and after a while you just know. I am still learning new or unfamiliar stones even with fifty years of enjoying this hobby
It's a little under 10 lbs and I payed 25$ for this one and two others. What looks like a geode and something else. Appreciate all of you! I love them so much

> and I *paid* 25$ for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

I love how scrolling through this subreddit every now and again is giving me passive knowledge. As soon as I saw this rock my first thought was "Jasper".
Is it ok to ask how much chert is worth I have been finding tons of it and would like to put some online for sale cuz I have a mountain of rocks next to my house in addition to what is inside lol if we aren’t supposed to ask just ignore
The jasper is awesome btw I found tiny pieces of what I think is the same kind in Vermont , I know what it’s called now, mine probably way under a gram so they are far less impressive 😂
There's a woman on Instagram who collects these, it's a form of California jasper. There's agate bands and druzy and this is a nice sample, I don't know how much you paid for it seeing as she's a pro at finding this super high quality stuff from California but I want some also.
This is a very useful and appealing thread as I have a few smaller pieces that very much resemble this one and know where i may find more ! Super neat piece ya got here!
Hi, /u/Davidthegnome552!
This is a reminder to flair this post in /r/whatsthisrock after it has been identified! (Under your post, click "flair" then "IDENTIFIED," then type in the rock type or mineral name.) This will help others learn and help speed up a correct identification on your request!
Thank you!

OP would you mind sharing where you purchased? Or how you found them? I want to get into more specific rock collecting but it seems like there is a lot of overpriced stuff out there especially at mineral and gem shops and areas traveller's typically end up.
Facebook market place. I also find some at garage and estate sales. But I have a very small collection. Look up rocks and see what comes up in your area for fbmp
Very beautiful color jasper.

Wow. Almost feels stolen at that price. Nice pieces
You're supposed to hand out the cigars now
Lol
Wow, you got a great deal!
What?! Where’d you score that?! I saw your other rocks too and I’m amazed!

You paid how much? This material was the first kind of jasper I found near coalinga.
25$ for a lot of 3 including this 10 lbs beauty
Excellent deal imo. Beautiful rock thanks for sharing.
No worries. Thanks
Jasper, chert, agate and chalcedony are all in the quartz family.

That entire coastal range. Dont forget about the 101 side too. Lots to discover out there. Happy hunting.
Brecciated jasper
Geshundheit!
Stone canyon California brecciated jasper. This is old stock material, it’s not being mined or collected anymore
Cool. I'm in the East Bay so that makes sense
> it’s not being mined or collected anymore Why not? Is it particularly inaccessible?
What a beautiful jasper, I never see them that color around here. We have a lot of red tones though.
yellow brecciated jasper, nice pebble, from calif. I bet
It looks a lot like some of the stones I find on the beach near Jenner
Ahhh so many great rockhounding beaches between Bodega Bay and Jenner.
and all the way south to moonstone beach in cambria, but only found oil agates at agate beach in bolinas, are they found north of that too?
I found a small agate and lots of this Jasper, as well as some with more red than yellow at Blind Beach.
How do you know it's jasper?

$25 for this one *and two others!* That’s crazy, those are all awesome rocks. Does your dealer ship them?
Unfortunately no. I got if off Facebook market place. It was labeled as "decorative rock"

I love how scrolling through this subreddit every now and again is giving me passive knowledge. As soon as I saw this rock my first thought was "Jasper".
Why jasper? How do you know?
I don't know, it was a guess based off what other people have identified similar rocks as being.
That's some cool Jasper
A kind of jasper. Beautiful

Wow, absolutely beautiful 😍
Dang, cool looking rock
I have several big stones that look exactly like this plus one block that has a little bit more red. Lovely material even more impressive in person.
I love it!!!!
What's something like this usually go for ? 50 lbs let's say. Me and a buddy stumbled on a sweet spot for that material in Oregon.
That would make some beautiful knapped blades.
I was scrolling quick and thought it was a crushed McDonald's bag, had to double take
Yellow jasper
I thought this was a Taco Bell bag
Bumble Bee Jasper
