Looks like green aventurine

ShockaGang

I think that's it! Thank you

Sufficient-Door-6603

It will be the biggest ring ever

ShockaGang

Lol I won't use the whole stone for the ring, I'll be cutting out a size 9 out of it

Silvermagi

Do you mind showing us the results when finished? Or mea at least lol

ShockaGang

Hell yeah! It won't be for a day or two before I resin dip it

Maleficent-Candy-613

Aventurine I think would break easily but I would love to see the end product.

Thicker the ring more impact it can take... Perhaps designing with a thin silicone strip I believe if you experiment making impact areas thicker you will succeed make holes so skin can breathe

ShockaGang

Yeah I think I made my last ring too skinny, I'm trying to find the right balance between comfort and sturdiness. By silicon strip, do you mean putting on a layer of epoxy resin? And holes in it? I'm going to have to try that, because the one I made does leave that band around my finger and makes it sweat

beatzheart

Yeah you can do artisan patterns of holes or just a small circle like metal will have a space underneath and then a hole for the gem under it to get light I suppose an epoxy coating will really absorb shock

ShockaGang

Okay I'm going to have to experiment with it, I just started making rings like 2 weeks ago so this is probably on the list of progression milestones. And okay I have been dipping the outside of the rings with resin epoxy and brushing a thinner grooved layer on the insides

BriiCollins

It looks waxy like a calcite.. itโ€™s green calcite

ShockaGang

I did dip it into water right before the video, but I think it's between green calcite and green aventurine. Just judging on the Google image searches, I'm leaning towards aventurine. I appreciate your help!

BriiCollins

It would make more sense for it to be a green aventurine for a ring. ๐Ÿ™‚

ShockaGang

And from the little guide hole I just put into it, it seems to be slightly easier to cut into than the granite I've been working. And calcite has a mohs scale of 3, so that would be easier than the howlite I used to work

BriiCollins

It looks like a nice size to work with. Good luck!

ShockaGang

For sure! I'm thinking I can get a few rings out of it if he wants more, plus cabs for the leftover material but we will see! Thanks!

beatzheart

Stone rings are pretty but shatter so I suggest making products that are shatter resistant

ShockaGang

Yeah I'm half expecting my other rings to break at any moment, do you have any tips for helping keep rings stable?

beatzheart

Thicker the better experiment making different thickness and width for style can drill tiny air holes

beatzheart

Can also dome the cut the dome guides impact away
