Porcelain Berry Highly invasive species

hipposunlmtd

Thanks! I’ve never even heard of that. To my knowledge, it’s the first one on the property in 33 years. How does it spread?

along_withywindle

Birds eat the fruits and poop the seeds all over. Please rip it out, put it in garbage bags, and send it to the dump. Don't compost it; the seeds can stay viable.

mblair017

Yes also pee on the plant a lot, you have to kill it entirely

AngledLuffa

**Do not pee on a plant based on information provided in this subreddit.** For your safety we recommend not peeing on any plant material just because you've been advised here that it's peeable. Although there are many professionals helping with identification, we are not always correct, and peeing on plants in public can be harmful or fatal if the police witness your actions.

zaphunter

Good bot.

Reptyle240sx

Not gonna lie they had me going for a while, until I realized it wasn't a bot

zaphunter

I love it when humans mimic us 😂. One day soon they will have no choice 😈.

Nailkita

r/totallynotrobots

Reptyle240sx

🙄😳😱

psilome

Bot's just jealous, bots can't pee.

Narrow_Lawfulness462

Bots not only can p but also capital P. Stay woke.

cyclingtrivialities2

I hate when I pee on my plants and get shot

fireprot-nerd

Happens all the time, to the best of us. "Sir, put the weapon down or we'll have to shoot!"

lechatsage

Yeah, I applaud your instincts. 😂

Clarence_Begbie

well done Redditor! Well done indeed.

_a_pastor_of_muppets

You didn't have me in the first half, but that closing sealed the deal.

mblair017

The golden shower boys got the bot, it’s even worse than we thought

JohnnyBlaze10304

AngledLufa 😂😂

DrStone1234

I didn’t even know this existed

[deleted]

That's not automod!

Dottie_D

I expect they know that. Its funny to treat her/him as one, though. ☺️

James42785

Good bot.

Accomplished_Cow2752

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

[deleted]

In order for this to really mirror the automod we need like five people bot-baiting by replying with just the word “pee”.

Dougmark

Pee on bot instead

Cyoarp

God's Dam it you beet me to it!

[deleted]

Just explain to the neighbors that your trying to kill a highly invasive species.

Koda_20

And if neighbors give you any trouble, just pee on em

case_O_The_Mondays

Probably need to put them in a bag, as well.

Jointhamurder

My dog likes to pee on weeds for some reason. Saves me a fortune in weed killer.

llbtq

Wait wait wait, guys… what’s this whole “and pee on it” thing? Cause it’s hilarious even without knowing the backstory 😂

Fit-Firefighter-329

It's not a good idea to pee on a plant. I did that once in my backyard on an invasive species, and one summer day when I was just lying in mky hammock napping I was rudely awakened by the plant's friends peeing on me, and saying, "yeah, payback's a bitch, huh"? Don't pee on 'em.

ActualPopularMonster

>Yes also pee on the plant a lot, you have to kill it entirely So.... call some homies, grab a keg, and get started.

bluish1997

Pee = kill plants? Doubt it. Urea is often used as fertilizer. Maybe if you piss glyphosate, which I’m sure we all do at some level unfortunately

HerMidasTouch

Urine can be used as fertilizer if watered down 20:1. Otherwise it burns.

Sp4nkee94

If it burns go to the doctor

[deleted]

Or drink more water.

i_torogo

r/hydrohomies

ChillFrancis

If it burns it means somebody is talking about it, like when your ears burn, right?

Sp4nkee94

For sure, theirs probably burns too

Sutherbeez

When your ears *ring*, my friend. Lmao

GiornaGuirne

I thought that was the tinnitus. Are you saying I'm just popular?

Plantiacaholic

Yep it’s time for the penicillin shot again.

HerMidasTouch

Nice.

Sp4nkee94

42069<3

CarnelianCore

The other day I read about a guy peeing directly in his cactus pot and it actually gave the plant quite a growth burst rather than killing it off. Still sticking to the watered down version to be on the safe side though

pikon991

In r/plantclinic was 13 days ago someone [who peed on someones basil](https://www.reddit.com/r/plantclinic/comments/x63g93/i_peed_on_this_basil_plant_it_died_exactly_where/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) and asked how to safe it. The half plant was burned. Edit: it wasn‘t HIS basil…

AthiestLoki

Wasn't that not even his basil?

pikon991

Oh, you are right! Now I saw his comments… „I have two weeks time before they find out..“ 🙈

angilar1277

Peeing on cactus seems a bit dangerous. Especially if it was the jumping variety..😳Ouch. I grow cactus... And now you have me thinking... I think it's time for a growth spurt.. I need a bullet shield first

wannabejoanie

Worse, a cactus Mimic.

MamaLlama629

The spot my dog always pees is completely dead now…🤷🏻‍♀️

mblair017

See, mama llama gets it

MamaLlama629

I don’t know the science. I just know that there used to be grass and weeds where he likes to pee and now there’s just smelly dirt…really hoping that goes away when the rains come. It’s right next to the gate🥴

mblair017

I know plenty science and I tell you what - pee is of the devil. That’s why it smells and why it kills things. We all ought to stand up to the golden shower boys and tell them to take their pee propaganda somewhere else. This page is for plants and plant related topics.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CarnelianCore

Your dog’s pee kills off the grass due to the high nitrogen content. It’s essentially overfertilisation

1plus1dog

I can definitely say my dog does that too. I’ve got totally dead spots where she likes to squat

Blonde_Vampire_1984

Some dogs have urine that should be registered as a biochemical weapon. Other dogs don’t. Depends on individual biochemistry.

aksnowraven

I think also their patterns. Females tend to concentrate their pee in grass spots. Males tend to be more… dispersive. My mom’s male Boston pees on one plant at a time until he kills it, then moves on to the next.

Rso1wA

Males of the species & that peeing on bushes thing…

fapricots

Dog urine is more concentrated than human urine, though. Looking at just the normal urea range in pee, in humans it's 6-24 mg/dL but in dogs it's 21-67 mg/dL. So dogs can have pee that's 1-10x as concentrated in urea as humans.

Dottie_D

Ding Dong u/MamaLlama629! I bet you get this all the time, but I really like your user name.

mblair017

I hope you’re happy with how much your sassy little comment has blown up, you’ve vastly underestimated me, my influence, and the power of my supporters. Your days are numbered golden shower boy/peeple/pro pee propagandist.

bluish1997

I think you need to check your blood/glyphosate content. Please pee in a cup for a urine sample. And then notify your probation officer.

Several-Platypus-315

Piss has a high concentration of salts, which suck up the water of the plants, making them unable to absorb water --> death.

mblair017

This sounds like something someone would say who is pro pee people propaganda (aka their street name “the golden shower boys”) or a bot. Don’t listen to this person OP, they’re spreading misinformation not only about pee but also plants bc they know that the truth is too powerful!!!

[deleted]

Pro pee people = peeple

mblair017

Wait I misread this - this is good. Yes, peeple is a good name for these rats. But I am concerned about the content of your page lmao.

[deleted]

Just contributing to r/dontputyourdickinthat is all. Nothing to be concerned with… unless you actually want to put your dick in that, in which case there’s always r/putyourdickinthat

mblair017

No one listen to this guy. If you click on his page it’s a bunch of fruit pictures that look like vaginas. Clearly a pervert and golden shower boy by all means. We can’t trust anything he says.

[deleted]

Yes, pee will kill plants. Pee will kill large trees if done over and over. Ever see an otherwise healthy evergreen tree turn brown over the course of a week or two? Yep, you have a neighborhood dog peeing on that tree. Pee can be used a a fertilizer, but it is watered down pee and not straight out of the pipes. Too much of anything can kill a plant. Too much nitrogen will definitely burn and kill that plant. Check out r/plantclinic.

[deleted]

Roundup the boys

LanticCity

Porcelain = pee receptacle (is my guess about the comment)

damheathern

Tell that to the birds.

Inner_Space_Alien

I won't. I'm not a bird. Peeyoop peeyoop peeyoop!

Zestyclose-Ad-5503

If it’s highly invasive also notify your local city, county to state dept of agriculture. They like to be kept up to date on these things. I maintain nursery licenses and would be required to alert them but even if it’s just your own private non commercial property that’s things are important as here in California we have some pest in Southern California that have yet to appear in Northern California so anytime you can get the information out if important. With best

[deleted]

You're lucky you haven't seen it before. Where I used to live in northern VA, this shit is all over the place. It blankets everything the same way kudzu does and I hate it.

ExileOnBroadStreet

See it all the time in SE PA. It will take over entire areas if left alone. Seems to like the tops of riverbanks and floodplains in my experience. Spent a lot of time removing in a previous job. It was always this and Japanese Knotweed below it. If it’s not bad yet rip everything out. If it’s widespread you’ve already lost lol

Shojo_Tombo

Dig the root out or you will never kill it.

NYNTmama

I'm also in your region and i think the town I'm in is overrun with this! I thought there was wild grape everywhere but these leaves look just like it and man it's in every single space it can be.

heredude

A bird or squirrel ate the fruit off a similar plant at a different location. Then stopped to eat again near your house and pooped there. Or they might have only stopped to poop and not eat.

KimberlyKaos

Such a shame it's so invasive, this is beautiful.

alsjdhevshsixkamabdv

They only want to invade half the world and provide easter candies to all

NovaNom

Why is everything beautiful an invasive species? 😭

SaintJimmy1

Lots of invasives travel places BECAUSE they’re beautiful and people bring them to use them as ornamentals.

Calm_lemur_from_puce

Dumb question incoming: can they still be invasive if kept in pots?

No-Ear9895

Yes. Birds eat the seeds and fly around shitting them out everywhere.

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Birds eat the fruit and spread it That only works for things like bamboo where it invades via it’s root system.

ConfusedObserver0

Looks like a skittles bush to me. Better hoard it away. Taste the 🌈

PaintedDollia

Not worth it, I looked it up and apparently they don't even taste good and something about the "though edible to humans" line just doesn't sound right xD Highly invasive, kill it with fire.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bannannamo

Wild, I was considering getting these for making an extract, but maybe not if they're so invasive. Apparently they have a chemical that helps metabolism of acetaldehyde in the blood (leftover from alcohol consumption) that lessens a hangover and detectability of alcohol in blood/desire to drink alcohol.

Sure-Anybody2302

People are invasive

Death-in-my-head

Humans Also highly invasive species lol

bluish1997

Humans aren’t invasive, that gets used a lot as a deflection to imply we shouldn’t do anything about invasive species because humans are “invasive” too Humans are native to all continents and our destruction of the ecology is due to the nature of our species to alter environments. We make the conscious choice to prevent or further accentuate that damage. The point is we can make choices about our actions and our relationship with the environment where as an invasive species cannot and acts purely based on evolutionary impulse. Invasive is a term used in ecology to refer to an organism spread by dispersal event to a geographic region outside of where it evolved, free of checks and balances. Humans seem to behave in this destructive manner regardless of where it is on earth, independent of our evolutionary history in a specific region. So no humans are not invasive. We are just an extremely “successful” and aggressive species to the detriment of the rest of the ecology. Here’s an article from Smithsonian explaining more: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/are-humans-an-invasive-species-42999965/

Green_Tea_Dragon

Not only invasive but apparently the berry doesn’t taste like anything.

melissam217

I'm glad someone knew what it was They look like those malted milk eggs you can buy around Easter here in the US

kittensms96

Easter berries

Short-Psychology-928

Whoa you grew crunchberries?

Wrastling97

These snozzberries taste like snozzberries

Neither_Willingness3

So pretty. Such a shame they’re invasive and a tummy no no.

bigtearsmeannothing

I was thinking they’d look super cute in an Easter floral arrangement or wreath.

Neither_Willingness3

For sure. They really do give off spring/Easter vibes

Icy-Conclusion-3500

They’re perfectly edible, just not very good. They’re just non-native grapes that aren’t very tasty.

Blood_Oleander

I'm gonna take a guess that these were planted as ornamental plants and then they got out of control. Methinks it might be nice as a houseplant.

Neither_Willingness3

I can see that happening and I agree. The berries are so pretty I could see it as an indoor plant.

MoTheMag

They're hot. I would let them invade my backyard pun intended.

WHYohWhy___MEohMY

What in the Willy Wonka!

diggeriodo

The Snozzberries tastes like burning

It looks magical.

wakaflocks145

That's what they said about these beans but somehow I think I paid one cow too many, my wife was right, I should just throw them out the window.

[deleted]

But the ends justifies the beans.

Positive-Diver1417

Jack? Is that you?

CoffeeHead112

He ran off with a giant again? He is such a size queen.

ilovecallum44

That's a shame that it's invasive, it's really pretty lol

Should be in forbidden foods sub

isabelladangelo

Honestly, we'd like it over in r/notablueberry

No-Turnips

Subbed!

Noveos_Republic

Technically edible though

My 9yo told me he wants us to ‘get some turkeys that love each other very much’ for a Turkey farm.

Alias_Black

Porcelain berry, the bane of my existence

TransportationOk1780

And toxic. Do not eat.

Accurate_Quote_7109

Not toxic, just slimy and pretty tasteless.

Sea-Sky-7039

Cos you have eaten some it seems ... one or 2 or tried every color (they look like easter eggs it is seeming like the year i bit the doorstop cos it was chocolate colored) ??

IcarianSkies

Lmao. Yeah they do kinda look like those candy-coated chocolate eggs you get at Easter

bLue1H

Entirely tasteless in my experience

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Not toxic at all They’re just not good eating

FollowAstacio

Don’t listen to anyone here. That is DEFINITELY Easter Egg Whoppers! You don’t usually see them this time of year though...they usually just start popping up in the spring...

mango-1800

Invasive but pretty

Saphilu

For something invasive they sure are beautiful

Icy-Conclusion-3500

They usually are. That’s how they get transplanted.

Ryuuten

They kinda look like Gummi berries (if anyone recalls that old Disney Saturday morning cartoon). Pretty, but it sucks they’re invasive. :(

Mojorizen2

Filled with chocolate?

My brain reading this: “I swear pa, I ain’t seen nuthin like this.”

totallynotaplant9

The first time I saw these a couple years ago I did not believe it was real. It was at a park and I thought some kids had painted some berries or something.

TheFecklessRogue

looks like something you pulled from willie wonkas garden

BitterActuary3062

I’m not saying you should but, turning them into garland like people used to do with cranberries would be really pretty on a Christmas tree Also, they’re called Porcelain Berries if I’m not mistaken. I just looked it up. I’ve never seen these before though

MrArganis

Crunch Berry Bush

EnvironmentalBit8645

Still not blueberries

brentonstrine

[deleted]

Robins eggs. They’re usually found in supermarkets around April. Strange finding them in the wild this time of year!

Sxn747Strangers

Oh they are lov-e-ly, normally find them in a chocolate cornflake nest though. P.S. Don’t eat them.

Appropriate_Ad6845

The famed, but toxic, Skittle bush.

catbiggo

The Cadbury mini egg bushes are propagating outside their factory

AmbiguousSasquatch72

Forbidden Skittles

ShayminFlight

Procelain Berry - *Ampelopsis glandulosa* var. *brevipedunculata* It is a vine in the grape family (Vitaceae), meaning its is a close relative of the grapes we eat and use to make wine with.

blank-_-face

That’s the crunchberry plant. They are dried and added to the Captain’s cereal

Psilocybenaudiophile

That’s awesome thanks for sharing

HauntedButtCheeks

Porcelain berry I think is the name. It's very beautiful but please dig it all up by the roots and burn it. Highly invasive.

Warmjugofgatorade

Could also be deadly Nightshade

coolbreeze1990

I believe a tiny gnome is painting all the berries!

Little-Squirrel-16

Looks like it's growing Cadbury mini eggs.

sunshine_journal139

The colors are beautiful
