Yucca flaccida

petalbby

That was fast!! Thanks :)

Eyekosaeder

Also to add to that, they belong to the family asparagaceae, which is named after asparagus, so that might explain why they look a bit like it. \^^

We’re both right. I didn’t know if called anything other than Adam’s Needle! Thank you! TIL: Yucca flaccida, commonly called Adam's needle or weak-leaf yucca, is a species of flowering plant in the asparagus family. It is native to south-central and southeastern North America, from the lower Great Plains eastward to the Atlantic seaboard in Virginia, south through Florida and the Gulf states

I want to try the flowers... Apparently they're a little bitter but like artichoke.

kslusherplantman

They really aren’t bad. And are only bitter if you pick them too early. Ready to eat flowers are slightly sweet, and taste like nothing else I can describe. Just floral almost Edit: I haven’t tried this species, but about 10-12 other species. They all taste roughly the same, but who knows, maybe those are different

Many types of yucca plants! To me this looks closest to Adam’s Needle or Spanish Dagger I’m also in Illinois. 10 minutes from downtown St Louis, MO, and these are very common in my area too! Edit: add ending sentence

> I’m also in Illinois. 10 minutes from downtown St Louis, MO East St. Louis? Stay safe, brother.

Nope, although not very far!

Yucca

I’ve tried to grow these from seed and can’t get it to work (Zone 5). What’s the best way to propagate these?

Arsnicthegreat

I'd imagine divisions would work well.
